The First Book of Nephi Nephi, son of Lehi, begins his record. Lehi sees in vision, praises God, foretells the Messiah, prophesies the destruction of Jerusalem. He is persecuted by the Jews. About 600 B.C. CH2 2 Lehi is faithful and takes his family into the wilderness; they are led by the Liahona 3 Nephi is obedient and prays in faith; 5 Nephi writes of the things of God. His purpose is to persuade men to come unto the God of Abraham and be saved. 6 Laman and others rebel. Nephi exhorts his brethren to have faith in the Lord They bind him with cords and plan his destruction - this is the beginning of brother against brother. Nephi is freed by the power of faith 20 Lehi sees a vision of the tree of life, rod of iron, a straight and narrow path, and the mists of darkness that enshroud men. CH9 22 Lehi predicts the Babylonian captivity 23 Lehi tells of the coming among the Jews of a Messiah, a Savior, a Redeemer Lehi tells of the death and resurrection of the Messiah 24 Nephi speaks of the Son of God.
