1. About COMEDK

The Karnataka Private Medical & Dental Colleges Association, in their endeavour to
offer an effective, fair and objective testing procedure to determine merit of students
seeking admission to the member institutions, have formed “Consortium of
Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka” (COMEDK).

(COMEDK) has been assigned the task of organising a common entrance test for the
academic year 2008-2009, for candidates aspiring to pursue Post Graduate Courses
in Medicine and Dentistry in the state of Karnataka, in Member Institutions of the
Consortium (Medical and Dental Colleges).

COMEDK entrance test & publication of test score and rank list will be followed by
centralised counselling (Single window system). The details will be publicised in due
course on our website, http://www.comedk.org.

The list of the Member Institutions who have indicated that they are participating in
the COMEDK testing program, along with the courses offered by them, is published
in this brochure, and also on our website http://www.comedk.org

Applicants are advised to read this brochure thoroughly and familiarise themselves
with the test procedures.

Note: COMEDK’s website http://www.comedk.org contains information and


current updates/alerts. This site is updated regularly. COMEDK suggests all
applicants to visit it frequently for relevant information.

2. Post Graduate Medical & Dental Programs


Post Graduate degree and diploma courses, in the Medical and Dental studies, for the
academic year 2008-2009 is required to commence from 01/05/08. Post Graduate
degree course is a 3-year full time program. Post Graduate diploma is a 2-year full
time program.

3. Eligibility Criteria
Degree / Diploma Programs:

Applicants must meet all requirements stipulated by MCI / DCI. Accordingly, they
should have successfully passed their M.B.B.S. / B.D.S. from an institution
recognised by MCI / DCI, and must have completed or completing their internship by
30/04/08.

MCI / DCI Norms:

Every student, selected for admission to the Post Graduate medical / dental course in
any of the medical / dental institutions in the country, shall possess recognized
M.B.B.S. / B.D.S. degree or equivalent qualification and should have obtained
permanent registration with the Medical Council of India / Dental Council of India, or
any of the State Medical / Dental Council or should obtain the same with in one
month from the date of admission, failing which the admission of the candidate shall
be cancelled.

Provided that in the case of a foreign national, the Medical Council of India / Dental
Council of India may, on payment of the prescribed fee for the registration, grant
temporary registration for the duration of the Post Graduate training restricted to the
college / institution to which the applicant is admitted for the time being exclusively
for Post Graduate studies; Provided further, that temporary registration to such
foreign national shall be subjected to the condition that such person is duly
registered as medical practitioner in his own country from which the applicant has
obtained his / her basic medical / dental qualification and that his / her degree is
recognized by the corresponding Council or concerned authority.

As per the Post Graduate Regulation 2000 of Medical Council of India, the
minimum percentage of marks in the entrance test (COMEDK PGET-2008)
for eligibility for admission to Post Graduate Courses shall be 50% for
General Category candidates and 40% for the candidates belonging to
Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes (OBC as
declared by Government of Karnataka from time to time).

As specified by the Dental Council of India, the minimum percentage of


marks in the entrance test (COMEDK PGET-2008) for admission to Post
Graduate Dental courses shall be 50% for all the candidates (Reference:
DCI. Letter No. DE 14-2004/1135 dated 05 May 2004).

Rank list / Rank Card will be prepared only for those students who become
eligible for admission to Post Graduate Courses as per the Medical Council of
India or Dental Council of India Regulations.

4. About Member Institutions


Unaided, private Medical and Dental colleges which are members of COMEDK, across
the State of Karnataka, offer various courses in Medical and Dental studies at Post
Graduate level. The courses offered at the Post Graduate level include both Degree
and Diploma programs. Colleges which have indicated their willingness to make
admission to their Post Graduate courses based on merit in the Common Entrance
Test organized by COMEDK (COMEDK PGET-2008), are listed in Appendix - I

Note:
¾ Minority status applicable to candidates of Karnataka origin only for
admission to respective minority status colleges.

¾ Claims made by candidates as belonging to Karnataka origin or Religious or


Linguistic minority status etc is not verified while sending TAT for COMEDK-

PGET 2008. However, if such a candidate qualifies for attending centralised


counselling, it will be his/her responsibility to furnish original documents
issued by competent authorities to the satisfaction of COMEDK authorities,
failing which such a candidate will be considered only under All India
General Merit.

¾ Change of category status like SC, ST, OBC, Minority will not be entertained
mid-way during the course of PGET 2008.As such students are cautioned to
declare their status while filling the application.

5. COMEDK Post Graduate Entrance Test-2008 (COMEDK PGET-2008)


COMEDK will conduct a separate entrance test for Medical and a separate entrance
test for Dental Post Graduate courses called 'COMEDK PGET-2008', for candidates
seeking admission to Post Graduate courses in Medical and Dental studies. The
entrance test is being conducted for use by COMEDK Member Institutions only. The
COMEDK entrance test is mandatory for candidates seeking admissions for the Post
Graduate courses in COMEDK Member Institutions. The COMEDK PGET-2008 test
scores are valid only for admissions during the academic year 2008-2009.

The COMEDK PGET-2008 will be conducted only at centres in


Bangalore on Sunday the 27th January 2008

The test venue will be mentioned in the candidate’s Test Admission Ticket and also
on the website under every candidate’s individual login.
Please re check the website for any changes / updates before leaving your hometown
for the test.
5.1. Application Procedure
The process involves the following stages:
Note: Send the Application in A4 size envelops only. Do not fold the application form.
¾ Ensure that the Demand Draft for Rs.1500/-(Rupees One Thousand
Five Hundred Only), along with all the marks cards, attempt certificate
and Degree Certificate are kept ready before filling up the Online
Application form.
¾ The Online application form has to be filled up properly and completely.
¾ Take a print of the filled in Application form and Date of Birth Certificate /
Identity Proof. (Two copies: Candidate copy and COMEDK Copy)
¾ The Application form is said to be complete only if it is enclosed with all
the documents mentioned below and posted to COMEDK office.
¾ Multiple application form filled and received from the same candidate will
result in confusion and may result in disqualification.
¾ Multiple Demand Drafts in excess of the prescribed fee (Rs.1500/-) if sent
by the candidate will not be refunded.

prescribed form duly attested by the head of the institution where
he/she has studied last
¾ Additional photograph (mention your application number on the back of
photograph)

Non-refundable fee for taking COMEDK PGET-2008 and attending centralised


counselling, if eligible, is Rs. 1500/- (Rupees One Thousand Five Hundred
Only). Demand Draft for Rs.1500/- should be drawn in favour of COMEDK-2008,
payable at Bangalore and should be enclosed with the application and all other
relevant document after mentioning application number on the back of DD.
(If DD is not enclosed the application will be rejected.)

Note:
Candidates are advised to visit COMEDK website regularly to watch for “Red
Alert” list of incomplete applications to ensure corrections well in time and
to enable COMEDK to send the TAT in time. COMEDK is not responsible for
rejection if clarifications listed in the red alert are not provided in time.

Applicants are directed to go through the instructions carefully before filling


the application forms.
Applicants are requested to send the filled-in application form at the earliest
to avoid any delay. Please do not wait until the last date to send in your
forms.
Note:
Please do note that the Photographs to be provided have to be identical, in
Colour and clear, and should not be more than 6 months old. Application
with smudged/tampered or hazy photograph will not be accepted. Any
application received not adhering to these specifications is liable to be
rejected without any clarifications and no refund will be made. The decision
of the COMEDK Committee on this would be final and binding.
For all future correspondence with COMEDK PGET-2008, applicants
need to quote their Application Number and TAT (Test Admission
Ticket) Number (if applicable).
5.2. Test Admission Tickets and Related Information
Candidates appearing for COMEDK PGET-2008 will be issued a Test Admission Ticket
(TAT) for identification. Candidates are required to bring the TAT and the original
(Candidate Copy) Date of Birth Certificate / Identity Proof duly attested by the Head
of the Institution where he/she has studied last, which is similar to the copy
submitted (COMEDK Copy) along with the application form. This is mandatory.

The Test Admission Ticket gives the details of test centre assigned to the candidate.
The candidates are assigned a test centre during the application processing, itself
and no requests for change in Test centre would be considered, because the
Entrance test is conducted only in Bangalore city

The Test Admission Tickets would be dispatched to the candidates by speed post at
the address mentioned in their application form as and when the applications are
processed. However all Test Admission Ticket will be dispatched by 16/01/2008
Candidates not receiving the Test Admission Ticket on or before
20/01/2008, must contact COMEDK helpdesk or send email to have the
details of the Test Admission Ticket.

Change of address, if any, during the process of COMEDK PGET-2008 must be


intimated through post / courier / Email / Fax to COMEDK office; the responsibility
for the same rests solely with the applicants. In the event of any candidate not
receiving the Test Admission Ticket or misplacing the same, the status can be
requested by calling the COMEDK Help Desk. The help desk numbers are
available in this brochure. Candidates can also view their test centre details
in the COMEDK website http://www.comedk.org through Applicant Login.

5.3. Test and Related Information


The Entrance Test COMEDK PGET-2008 is mandatory for all candidates seeking
admissions to Member Institutions of COMEDK. A merit / rank list is generated based
on the candidate's scores in COMEDK entrance test.

As part of our test process, to ensure fairness to the merited students and
to eliminate fraudulent attempts, it is planned to use Biometrics
(Fingerprinting) at various stages of the process and this would be done at
the discretion of COMEDK.

5.3.1. Test Scheme

There will be one test for PG Medical and one test for PG Dental Courses. Each test
will have 180 multiple-choice questions (MCQ).

¾ The time allotted for the test would be 180 minutes. The test will begin at
10:00am and end at 1:00pm
¾ Candidates are required to mark their answers in an OMR (Optical Mark
Reader) Answer Sheet.
¾ Each correct answer is awarded one mark.
¾ There will be no negative marking.
¾ No mark/s will be awarded for multiple marking (marking multiple responses)
of any question.

5.3.2. Syllabi
The scope of the syllabi for the Post Graduate Medical / Dental entrance test is based
on the M.B.B.S. / B.D.S. syllabus as prescribed by MCI / DCI, respectively. The
number of questions related to each subject in COMEDK PGET-2008 is approximately
as mentioned below:

5.3.3. Test Locations


The COMEDK entrance test, COMEDK PGET-2008, will be held in Bangalore
city only. The test will be held on the mentioned time and date in all the test
centres. The details of all the test centres will be published online. The centre
address will be mentioned in the TAT, which would be dispatched to the candidates
prior to the examination as per the calendar of events.

5.3.4. Instructions for Test Takers


Candidates please note:
¾ Report 60 minutes before the commencement of the test (9:00am)
¾ Test commences at 10:00am
¾ Arriving later than 10:15am is not permissible and you will not be allowed
to take the test.

Answer sheet: All answers need to be registered on an Optical Mark Reader (OMR)
sheet, which is machine read and evaluated. Candidates must use only black
ballpoint pen for marking their answers on the OMR sheet. Use of erasers or
whiteners is not permitted. (Ref: Appendix-VI for format)

¾ OMR answer sheets will be supplied only at the examination hall. After the
test is over, the answer sheet should be given back, before leaving the room.
Candidates are allowed to take the candidate’s copy of the answer
sheet only on completion of the test.
¾ Kindly note that the candidates must sign on their TAT and OMR answer
sheets in the presence of the invigilator, after the invigilator has verified their
TAT. Invigilators will also sign on the column indicating Invigilators Signature
on the OMR Sheet, if not; the answer sheet will be invalid and not be
considered for processing.
¾ Candidates are also required to write their name, question booklet
number, Version Code, TAT number ONLY in the space provided in their
OMR answer sheet.
¾ The OMR answer sheet is machine assessed and therefore it should be
handled with care. If there is any doubt, please contact the test invigilator
immediately.
¾ The COMEDK PGET-2008 test administration is timed. The test session is
designed to be completed within 180 minutes as indicated in this brochure
and no compromise will be made on the set time limits. The Chief
Superintendent of the test centre is the official timekeeper. Candidates (Test
takers) will not be permitted to continue the test beyond the established time
limit.
¾ It is planned to use biometrics (fingerprinting) during the test session.
¾ Candidates are not allowed to go out of the room temporarily for any reason
during the test duration.

5.3.5. Grounds for Dismissal


The COMEDK PGET-2008 test administrator is authorised to dismiss a candidate from
a test session for:

¾ Attempting to take the test for someone else (Impersonation)


¾ Failing to provide acceptable identification when asked for
¾ Creating disturbance at the test venue
¾ Giving or receiving unauthorised help
¾ Eating or drinking during the test
¾ Using any forbidden / unauthorised testing aids, such as personal
computational devices, pagers, cell phones etc.
¾ Leaving the test centre before the stipulated time of 15 minutes, from the
start of the test.
¾ Failing to adhere to any of the other procedures and regulations cited
¾ Refusing to follow directions as stipulated by the invigilators etc.

Requests for use of toilet during the test are not entertained.
Failure to comply with the test procedures and regulations or with the test
administrator's directions can result in COMEDK taking action/s that include, but are
not limited to, barring candidates from future testing and or cancelling your test
scores. If your scores are cancelled, they will not be reported to the Member
Institutions / Regulating Authority, and your test fee will be forfeited.
5.4. Results Publishing
All answer sheets (OMR) are machine read. Key Answers and Test scores of all the
candidates will be published on the website, http://www.comedk.org.
Clarifications, if any, should be sought within the dates stipulated. Subsequently the
final result along with the Merit List will be published which will be binding on all
candidates and no further claim would be entertained thereafter. (Please refer to the
Calendar of Events for details.)

The test results will be published in two stages:

¾ Test Score Publication


¾ Final Merit / Rank List Publication

The Final Merit / Rank List will be sent to all the regulatory authorities. Individual
rank card will be sent to eligible candidates only. The same will also be made
available at the COMEDK website, http://www.comedk.org

5.4.1. Test Scores Publishing


¾ Answer Keys to the COMEDK PGET-2008 will be published on the website
only late in the evening, on 27/01/2008.
¾ Clarifications to the answer keys, if any, should be sought between
28/01/2008 and 04/02/2008 (Communications received after
04/02/2008 will not be entertained)
¾ Test scores of COMEDK PGET-2008 will be published on 18/02/2008
¾ Clarifications to the Test Scores, if any, should be sought between
19/02/2008 and 21/02/2008.
(Communications received after 21/02/2008 will not be entertained)
¾ The Final Rank list will be published on 23/02/2008

Applicants seeking any clarifications with regards to:


a. Clarification with regards to the answer key/s. (Ref: Appendix-II for format)
b. Test scores. (Ref: Appendix-III for format)

have to write to COMEDK, clearly indicating the grievance and with all necessary
enclosures in a prescribed format which can be downloaded from our website. Every
answer key for which clarification is sought should be sent to COMEDK office by post
along with a Demand Draft of Rs.100/- (Rupees One Hundred) per item, drawn
in favour of ‘COMEDK 2008’, payable at Bangalore. Only if the clarification sought,
is upheld, the money would be refunded.
Similarly for seeking clarification of Test Scores, a Demand Draft of Rs.100/-
(Rupees One Hundred) per candidate, drawn in favour of ‘COMEDK 2008’,
payable at Bangalore, should be enclosed. Only if the clarification sought, is upheld,
the money would be refunded.
No further claims for clarifications will be entertained by COMEDK after the
last date, as indicated above.

5.4.2. Final Merit / Rank List Publishing


Any verifications / clarifications sought by the applicants will be put forth to the
COMEDK’s Academic Committee for their consideration and the decision given by the
committee will be final and binding on all. No further claims will be considered. The
final merit / rank list is generated based on the performance in the entrance test and
the same will be published on 23/02/2008

Inter-se Merit:
Ties in the test scores, if any, will be resolved based on the following, in the order
specified:
¾ Total aggregate percentage scored in the M.B.B.S. / B.D.S. exams
¾ Number of additional attempts during the course of study, i.e., M.B.B.S. /
B.D.S.
¾ The age of the candidate, the elder candidate is ranked higher than the
younger candidate.

In case of tie existing after exhausting in all of the above situations, merit will be
based on random selection.

COMEDK Member Institutions will not accept any other qualification of


entrance examination conducted by any other agencies to determine the
inter-se merit.

All candidates must note that any form of canvassing or influence


exercised would result in permanent disqualification of the application
without any prior notice to the applicant. http://www.comedk.org is
the only official website of the Consortium. COMEDK is not responsible
for information available on other websites / elsewhere.

Please note: COMEDK does not have any agents, liaison, admission offices,
representatives or any other office/s other than the office mentioned in this
brochure. Candidates are requested not to depend upon or deal with any
person or organisation/s claiming to be associated with the COMEDK activities
or claiming to help with admissions or entrance tests. COMEDK will not be
responsible for the same.

6. Centralised Counselling (Single window)


Detailed instructions relating to centralised counselling will be put on the website at a
later date.
First round of counselling tentatively will be held in the month of April 2008
Second round of counselling tentatively will be held in the month of May 2008

The COMEDK website http://www.comedk.org is updated regularly.


COMEDK suggests all candidates to visit it frequently for relevant
information.

7. Biometrics Verification
Candidates intending to take the Post Graduate Entrance Test 2008 may be required
to undergo biometric verification. (i) during the test (ii) during centralised
counselling for seat selection and (iii) at the college level, during the admission
process.

To ensure fairness to the merited students and to eliminate fraudulent


attempts, it is planned to use Biometrics (Fingerprinting) at various stages
of the process and this would be done at the discretion of COMEDK.

COMEDK reserves the right to change (or) reset the Biometric Verification
parameters at any time during the selection process.

Any mismatch at any stage will automatically result in disqualification of the


candidate and he/she will not be permitted to participate in any further process of
seat selection and admission to PG course. Further, impostors are liable for criminal
prosecution.

8. Assistance / Facilities to candidates


In order to provide timely information to the candidates about their applications, or
the entrance test, or the results thereof, COMEDK has made the following
arrangements:

The Help desk telephone number is +91-80-41132810. The Help desk is


operational from 9:30am to 6:00pm, Monday to Friday, and from 9:30am to
1:30pm on Saturdays. The Help desk is not operational on Sundays and other
public holidays.
Candidates can send their queries to the Help desk at pget@comedk.org or can fax
the same to +91-80-25598309.
COMEDK has set up a website http://www.comedk.org to facilitate information
dissemination among the candidates. The website contains all the information
available in this brochure. The website contains information pertaining to the
Member Institutions, the courses offered, and other details thereof.
In addition, candidates have been provided with a facility to check the status of their
application in the various stages of processing their application for taking the test.
The candidate will have to click on the link indicating “Applicant Login” on the
home page of the website. They can login to the system by entering their
Application Number and their Date of Birth as mentioned in their application
form. After the login is successful, the candidates will be provided with various
information such as, one’s application details, latest status of their application for
taking the test, the status of their Test Admission Ticket (TAT), the details of one’s
test centre (address), and other alerts / information as specific to the candidate.

No personal Queries will be entertained. The communication can be made only


through Phone, Fax or Email.

9. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)


Q. What is the eligibility for the courses?
A. As prescribed by MCI / DCI, candidates who have passed their M.B.B.S. or B.D.S.
from an institution recognised by MCI / DCI and have completed (or are expecting to
complete their internship by 30/04/08) are eligible for the courses. Candidates
should also meet other requirements as prescribed by MCI / DCI.

Q. Is the Entrance Test open only to Karnataka students?


A. No, this test is open to all the eligible students in the country.

Q. Are candidates applying from outside the state of Karnataka eligible to get the
benefit of lower eligibility qualifying marks?
A. Yes, in the case of SC and ST candidates only. But only Karnataka OBC
candidates can seek the benefit of lower eligibility in qualifying marks provided the
OBC certificate as applicable issued by the competent authorities is furnished in
support of the claim.

Q. I have finished my M.B.B.S. a few years ago. Am I eligible for these courses?
A. You can apply for the notified courses, as long as you fulfil the basic eligibility as
prescribed by MCI / DCI.

Q. Is there an age limit for admission to the courses?


A. No, there is no age limit for admission to the courses.

Q. I am interested in applying for certain courses, but these are not listed in the course
list provided in this brochure.
A. The course list provided in this brochure is limited to only those courses offered
by COMEDK Member Institutions.

Q. When is the last date to apply?


A. All filled-in applications must reach the office of COMEDK on or before 05th
January 2008 Saturday, by 1:30pm. Applications received after the stipulated
date and time will be liable for rejection.

Q. What is the procedure of selection?


A. For the academic year 2008-2009, selection of seats for the Post Graduate
courses in Member Institutions will be based on merit, taking into account the

performance of the candidate in COMEDK PGET-2008 and counselling, COMEDK


entrance test & publication of test score and rank list will be followed by central
counselling (Single window system). The details of the arrangement made will be

Q. How will I know my test results?


A. The results will be intimated to all the eligible candidates individually. The same
will also be available on our website http://www.comedk.org.

Q. If I have 5 clarifications in the answer key, then do I send a DD of Rs.100 or


Rs.500?
A. You have to send a DD of Rs.500. (Rs.100 per clarification) along with the format
(Appendix-II of Brochure)

Q. I want to seek clarification of my test score. Should I send a DD of Rs.100/-?


A. You have to send a DD of Rs.100. (Rs.100 per OMR sheet) along with the format
(Appendix-III of Brochure)

Q. Would I get a refund for the amount, which I have sent along with my
clarification/s?
A. You would be entitled for a refund only to the extent your clarification/s is/are
upheld by the academic committee.

Q. Can I send a black & white photograph?


A. The Photographs to be provided in the application form, Date of Birth Certificate /
Identity Proof and the extra copy of photograph have to be identical, in Colour and
clear, and should not be more than 6 months old. Application with smudged /
tampered or hazy photograph will not be accepted.

Q. What is a minority Institution and who is eligible to be admitted under minority


Quota?
A. Minority institutions are broadly of two types:
1) Religious minority 2) Linguistic minority

The minority status is restricted to Karnataka Candidates only. Minority College is


entitled to admit candidates from their own minority group only. Under COMEDK the
following minority colleges are enlisted. Candidates seeking admission only under
minority status should have secured not less than 50% in COMEDK PGET 2008

Marks Obtained
Please enter the total marks you have obtained in each year during the course of
study in M.B.B.S. / B.D.S. Please ensure that the marks entered by you include the
marks obtained in the theory, practical papers, internal assessment, grace
marks, and viva also for all the subjects of the respective years. Marks obtained at
the University Exam during the successful attempt should alone be entered
(supporting marks card/s to be enclosed). Also mention the number of attempts you
have taken to clear the respective years. Once you have filled up all the marks and
the attempts year wise in the relevant columns, cross verify with the “Grand Total”.

In the case of foreign students where the marking system is not prevalent and only
grades are given, they may indicate the grade and should attach the authenticated
grade report giving marks equivalent ranges issued by the university in which the
candidate has studied. Documents in a language other than English should be
accompanied by a translated English copy authenticated and notarized.
