All new employees, students and volunteers are required to attend the New Employee/Volunteer Orientation Program. The Orientation program introduces you to the health and safety requirements for your employment/internship or volunteer placement at the Faulkner Hospital. Orientation includes: the history of the hospital, its Mission, HIPAA/Privacy regulations, National Patient Safety Goals, Infection Control etc. Signicant attention will be given to the quality of the patient experience and Faulkner Hospitals C.A.R.E. MANAGEMENT OF AGGRESSIVE BEHAVIOR (MOAB)


MOAB is designed to enhance your awareness of verbal deescalation and physical restraint skills. The two-day program is required for all staff from Psychiatry, Addiction Recovery Program, Emergency Department and Security. Current staff are required to do an annual one-day recertication class. All other direct caregivers are strongly recommended to attend both days of this class. Non direct caregivers are recommended to attend day one. See Faulkner411 for schedule. KENNETH B. SCHWARTZ CENTER ROUNDS
Schwartz Rounds are designed to provide a multidisciplinary forum for caregivers and other staff to discuss difcult emotional and social issues that arise in caring for complex patients. The goal is to provide immediate support for caregivers and other staff in their often stressful roles, promote teamwork and ultimately enhance the relationship and understanding between patients and caregivers. WHEN WE DISAGREE
You will learn factors that create disagreements, understand your own style for dealing with disagreement and conicts and understand steps to take to minimize disagreement and conicts. BALANCED SCORECARD CLASS


The Balanced Scorecard is an automated electronic reporting system that collects data and information from different BW/F and Partners sources. This system is a key management and strategic tool for all clinical and administrative leaders. This course will provide you with an overview of the Balanced Scorecard, an introduction to the information it contains and methods for navigating its contents. HOSPITAL FINANCE 101


This class is intended to introduce participants to the most important principles and applications of healthcare nance including: Identifying the features of the hospitals nancial statements; Understanding the key drivers of patient care revenue and expenses; Understanding how the hospital gets paid for the services it provides and; Reviewing important tools to monitor the indicators of nancial performance. TEAMWORK
The key to success in any department, project or work group is teamwork. The department of education offers a number of interventions to provide your team with the tools that you need to work together successfully. Explore the four stages of development, use experiential teambuilding exercises to apply back at work and discover your conict style by using the Thomas-Kilmann Conict Model Instrument to learn how to work successfully through conict. A three-day program designed to give future facilitators and team leaders skills to facilitate teams, assess and manage group development, collect/analyze data and develop and implement solutions using the Plan-Do-Check-Act Faulkner Hospital creative problem-solving model. Participants will experience the basics of recognized problem solving strategies including aspects of LEAN, and Rapid Cycle Improvement. (Participation required all three days). CHANGE ACCELERATION PROCESS (CAP) TRAINING


Through the Center for Clinical Excellence we offer a two-day Change Acceleration Process (CAP) workshop. The intent is to provide an opportunity to learn and practice change management concepts and tools, an integral part of ensuring effectiveness as you continue to work on a wide range of departmental and

7 organizational improvement initiatives in the coming year. Each person will be asked to approach the training with a current or future project in mind, for which they can develop a change acceleration strategy. (Participation is required for both days.) LEAN PRACTITIONER TRAINING


BW/F is thrilled to offer employees the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of Process Improvement and Lean. PROFESSIONALISM IN THE WORKPLACE

PRECEPTOR WORKSHOP
This full day workshop is designed to guide and prepare experienced staff throughout the hospital, to assume the role and responsibilities of being a preceptor. The following content areas will be presented; The multigenerational workforce, adult learning principles and teaching strategies, preceptor and orientee roles and responsibilities, developing the preceptor/orientee relationship and providing feedback and participating in competency evaluations. BWH QUALITY ROUNDS


Physicians, nurses, physician assistants, pharmacists, administrators and staff are invited to attend. This lecture is approved for a CME category 1 credit for physicians. A CME category 1 credit may be converted to a CE credit for nurses and pharmacists per guidelines set by their governing boards. This lecture is also designed to meet the criteria for 1 hour Risk Management credit in Massachusetts. The video stream for these Rounds will be available by link on Faulkner Broadcast emails. Nursing Case Review is a panel presentation scheduled four times each year. CHARGE NURSE DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP: HOW TO BE A REALLY SKILLFUL AND EFFECTIVE CHARGE NURSE, WHEN YOURE NOT THE BOSS
This interactive full day workshop provides a foundation of information and strategies to prepare the registered nurse to fulll the role and responsibilities of charge nurse. The following content includes: decision making, shift assignments, delegation

ADVANCED CHARGE NURSE WORKSHOP: PROMOTING EXCELLENCE


Building upon the knowledge and skills gained in the Charge Nurse Workshop, the purpose of this advanced workshop is to provide the experienced charge nurse with an overview of contemporary tools utilized to effect change and advocate for staff and patients. PROGRAM-HAZARDOUS MATERIALS FOR HOSPITAL PROVIDERS WMD/HAZARDOUS MATERIALS RESPONSE OPERATIONS LEVEL C
This 6-hour course addresses assessment of chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear hazards and the use of Level C Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including Powered Air Purifying Respirators (PAPR). Hands-on exercise allow for practice in inspecting, donning, wearing, and dofng PPE and in decontaminating patients and managing waste. See Faulkner411 for schedule. RAPE AGGRESSION DEFENSE (RAD)


The RAD System is a program of realistic, self-defense tactics and techniques taught by certied RAD instructors. RAD is a comprehensive course for women including: awareness, prevention, risk reduction and avoidance, while progressing on

PATIENT FAMILY RESOURCE CENTER OPEN HOUSES


The Patient Family Resource Center sponsors monthly open houses aimed at educating our staff, patients and visitors regarding current information on a variety of healthcare topics.
