RULES & CRITERIA FOR COMPETITION ELIMINATIONS


COMPETITION CATEGORY Group. A group consists of a minimum of 5 to a maximum of 15 members. The members of the group may be made up of all males or females or a combination of males and females. No age limit is required. Genre. The HipHop Competition will reward group choreography incorporating popping, locking, break dancing, funk, street, jazz, club dance, and other dance forms performed with HipHop style and attitude. Dancing forms with traditional dance lines such as ballroom, traditional jazz, ballet, tap, modern, etc. will not be rewarded REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS 1. Accomplished Registration Form 2. Registration Fee of Php 250.00 *Deadline of Registration : December 15, 2011

ROUTINE LENGTH The routine length must be at least four minutes (4:00) but not exceed seven minutes (7:00). A grace period of plus or minus (+/-) five seconds (:05) is permitted resulting in a minimum 3:55 and a maximum 7:05. Pre-performance display is permissible up to 20 seconds allowing the group to acknowledge the audience and to get into the opening pose. Timing of the pre-performance begins when the first group member steps on stage. Timing of the routine begins with the first audible sound and ends with the last audible sound (this includes a cuing beep, if used). Failing to comply with the routine length will result in a 5-point deduction.

** In the event of technical problems that affect a groups performance, the group will be allowed a do-over or repeat of their routine.

MUSIC Groups may use a performance piece with a minimum of two (2) songs with no maximum limit. Groups must submit their final material on soft copy or in digital format to ensure errorless playback during the competition. Along with the digital format, each group is requested to put their music on CD format for back-up purposes. MAKE SURE THAT AUDIO LEVELS ARE AT THE NORMAL BASELINE WHEN HAVING YOUR MUSIC MIXED DOWN TO AVOID EXTREMELY LOUD AND DISTORTED PLAYBACK.

DAY OF COMPETITION On the day of the competition, groups will draw lots to determine the chronology of performances. Drawn spots are final, no changes will be entertained. Practice and Blocking. Each group will be given 7 minutes each to practice on the day of the competition using the stage area. All groups are requested to be at the venue at least 2 hours before the start of the show. General Meeting. Participating group will be called to a General Assembly (schedule to follow) to discuss the mechanics, criteria, and other concerns.

ROUTINE EVALUATION TOTAL POSSIBLE SCORE IS 100 points The judges will evaluate the style of movements in the routine and the execution of the style(s), e.g. popping, locking, funk, street, etc. The judges will consider the quality of movement throughout the routine, including arm, leg and body placement and synchronization of the group members. I. ARTISTIC MERIT 60 points Choreography (30 points) -includes Variety and Repetition (10 points), Spacing/Formations/Patterns (10 points) and Transitions/Level Changes/Planal Changes (10 points Musicality (20 points) Showmanship (10 points)

II. TECHNICAL MERIT 40 points Execution/Controlled Mobility and Stabilization (20 points) Synchronization (10 points) Intensity (10 points)

RULES & CRITERIA FOR COMPETITION FINALS


The four (4) groups with the highest scores in the Elimination Round will be battling against each other (think Step Up 3) to determine the champion of the competition. The scores will be reset to zero. Draw lots will be done to decide on what groups will face each other. It will be a tournament based battle in a Knock-Out system basis. The winner in each battle would be determined by the following criteria: Skills/Technique/Variation (50%) Musicality (20%) Attitude/Showmanship (20%) Audience Impact (10%) ** Further rules of the Dance Crew Battle (Final Round) will be discussed in the General Assembly on the day of the competition.
