It's time for the winter sports at Monroe Central High School. Those who played either volleyball, football, golf or soccer in the fall gave us a very good start to the year, but now it's time for our basketball players and our wrestlers to bring in the victories. Team players are working very hard already with practices and scrimmages. Coach Troy Baker, who coached the girl's volleyball earlier this fall, has 24 girls playing basketball this season. "We've still

got a lot of work to do. We do have a pretty good mix though. We grouped the seniors and juniors so we should be all right. It's still too early to tell at this point what to expect." Their first game is Nov. 26 at River. Coach Greg Taylor, boy's basketball coach, has a team of 29 this season. "Right now, the boys are working very hard. They're currently learning to rebound. It's too early to tell much at this point. All of the boys are working for playing time. All of the coaches are very pleased with how they are doing so far," says Taylor. Their first game is Dec. 2 at Caldwell. "I hope people come out and support the boys and all their hard work." Wrestling coach Tyler Schumacher has 15 wrestlers this year. "This is the first time we've had these kinds of numbers in a while. It's more competitive now. We have a lot of first year kids this year. They're coming along really well. Things are going really good for us so far." Their first match is at Magnolia against Magnolia and Shenandoah on Dec. 7. Good luck to all of those participating in sports this winter--I'm sure you will make Monroe Central proud, as always!
