Brit Milah
Brit Milah is the initiation service for Jewish babies Its literal meaning is covenant of circumcision Circumcision was one of the covenants given to Abraham by God Eight days after birth, unless health problems with the baby delay this, the newborn boy is taken to the Synagogue to have the circumcision performed on him celebratory meal, many different prayers are recited, an example of one being the ha-Rachaman Another prayer often recited at these meals is the Sandek, Some Jewish communities believe that meat should be served as part of the meal following Brit Milah, as most temple offerings in olden times consisted of meat.
