Electrical Power Engineering

Final degree awarded Language of instruction Master of Science in Electrical Power Engineering English For this Masters programme, there is also an equivalent programme taught entirely in German (Energietechnik). For more information on how to apply for the German Masters programme, please refer to www.zhv.rwthaachen.de/move/online/move/ movein/portal/procedure.php?_language=en Two years October

Special entrance requirements

Students should have profound theoretical knowledge of Electrical Engineering, Higher Mathematics, and the Natural Sciences.

Structure of the programme

The programme is comprised of three semesters of lectures, exercises and practical courses, along with an eight week industrial internship and a final Masters thesis. During the eight-week industrial internship, students will be trained in solving practical engineering problems. The Masters thesis is an independent scientific study to be completed within a fixed period of four months, which is completed by an oral presentation . Students are assessed through six individual exams. Additional credits will be earned through seven additional courses. The programme also includes several excursions to industrial plants and/or power utilities.

Goals of the programme

This programme is designed to train students in modern electrical power engineering, offering a high level of education in close cooperation with industry. Through the application of scientific methods, students will gain the ability to understand and address the various problems in the field of electrical power engineering. They will be able to relate new scientific findings to practical applications in the field. Further, students will learn how to apply their knowledge of mathematics and electrical engineering to solve technical problems in a global social and economic context. During an industrial internship of at last two months, students are trained in addressing practical engineering problems. Flexibility and open-mindedness are major qualifications of the electrical engineer.
