The Pictorialist

December 2011 Newsletter of the Photo Pictorialists of Milwaukee Established 1904 Affiliated with the Photographic Society of America Wisconsin Area Camera Clubs Organization And the Wisconsin Print Circuit Richard Yehl, President; Sandra Weber, Vice President Dixie Lowin, Treasurer; Bert Hartinger, Secretary-Editor Meetings are held the first and third Thursdays of each month from September thru May at 7pm, in the Luther Manor Conference Room, 4545 N. 92nd St., Wauwatosa, Wisconsin Highlights from November Meetings Judging photos from PSA Region 21 gave us an opportunity to compare our work with that from other clubs, and we compared favorably. The program on flash spurred at least one club member to study his flash manual and experiment with wireless flash for the first time. Thanks to those who brought in flash equipment to show and explain. There is a new book out by Bryan Peterson, Understanding Flash Photography. It merits a look for creative ways to use flash to improve the impact of photographs under certain conditions. December Programs At the December 1st program, Des Desens will present his experience over forty years shooting street scenes. Prints of Christmas and Holiday photos are needed for the display in the Welcome Center during the month of December. So, bring one or two or more for that display. Also needed are some guess photos for the display on the second board. They also should have a seasonal motif. Hopefully we will get enough from our members to fill that second display board. In January and February our club will have a photo exhibition at the Cudahy Public Library. The prints can either be framed, or just matted. Enough photos are needed to fill a display area 20x7. Pick out two or three of your best photos, and bring them to the Dec. 1st meeting. If that is not sufficient we will call for more for the Dec. 15th meeting. December 15 is our Christmas dinner-party. This time it will be held in the Hearth Room at Luther Manor, on the second floor, over the CD entrance on the south side of the complex. See the attached map on page 3 for directions to get there. Come as early as 5 pm. Bring a dish to share, and your own utensils and drinks of your choice. Richard Yehl has volunteered to bring meat and rolls. To make the party complete, bring Christmas and Holiday photos on memory sticks, for showing. Honorable mention ribbons and one bronze medal from the WACCO fall competition will be distributed at the party. WACCO and PSA News The Pictorialists competed rather well in the last WACCO competition. We won one bronze medal and fifteen honorable mentions. Richard Yehl won a bronze medal, and two HMs. Ruth Baer won three HMs. Kathy Braun won three HMs. Del

Desens won one HM. Bert Hartinger won four HMs. Sandra Weber won 2 HMs. In the 2011 PSA Councils Challenge WACCO came in 5th place from among twelve councils. WACCO was beat out by CACCA by a mere three points. Moose Peterson Seminar WACCO will present a seminar led by noted wildlife photographer Moose Peterson, March 10, 2012. Signup sheets with price information will be distributed later. For more information now, e-mail, or call (262) 628-1255. Outings Note this! The outing to Old World Wisconsin originally scheduled for December 3 will instead take place the following Saturday, December 10. Lets meet at the Park and Ride south parking lot at Watertown Plank Road and Highway 45, at 11 am, for car pooling. Looking far ahead, on Saturday February 11 we will have a behind the scenes tour of the Central Milwaukee Public Library.

Treasurers Report Dixie Lowin reports that the club has $1845.04 in the bank, apparently a record high amount. And, there are two persons in the club who still have to send her their dues. Membership Dixie also provided a list of paid up members which will be used to update the membership list. Thanks to Pauline Beck who prepared a brochure on the club and distributed it to the Milwaukee area public libraries, and to Sandra Weber, who produced the PhotoPictorialist web site, we have prospective new members also. We now have 29 paid up members, with a couple yet to pay.
