It’s annoying when the Wi-Fi connection is slow. But don’t blame your kids — look instead to the nature of traditional antennas. To satisfy our Facebook addiction and mobile TV habits, we tap into directional antennas. But a different kind of antenna could boost the speed of home Internet — and perhaps change our Wi-Fi consumption forever. Enter plasma antennas. New Scientist describes that the antennas “could revolutionize high-spreed wireless communications, miniature radar and even energy weapons.” Its ability to beam-form highfrequency radio waves into one stream would help deliver wireless content in a snap. Meet Plasma Silicon Antenna (PSiAN). Beam-forming antennas will help us keep up with our ever increasing Wi-Fi use in the home. While there are two types of plasma antennas, the solid-state antennas are preferred over semiconductor antennas. The real benefit of upgrading the Wi-Fi networks is to get them to run faster. Wi-Fi usually can manage 54 megabits of data per second. The fancied Wi-Fig would handle up to 7 gigabits per second. This would mean you could download a TV show in a matter of seconds. Plasma antennas can be made smaller than traditional antennas. The PSiAN should come to market in a few years. Let’s hope so, for the sake of time. *
We all have heard of radio antennas which are used widely at present. On hearing the name ‘plasma antenna’ for the first time, we may get a wrong impression that it is something entirely different. But that is not the case. Plasma antenna is just another type of radio antenna which is currently under development. In this innovation, plasma is used as a replacement for the metal elements of the traditional antennas. It performs all the functions of the radio antennas. That is it can be used for transmission and reception of signals. This was a concept developed a long time before. Indeed a long time before. The patent of this idea was given to J Hettinger in 1919. But it took a long for the project to come into fulfillment. It was very recently that we were able to make practical the plasma antennas. The earlier attempts to realize the project used discharge tubes for the storage of plasma. Such antennas were named as ionized gas plasma antennas. They had many advantages. They had the ability to resist cyber attacks, and electronic warfare. They were good for stealth and could be turned on and off.

While no practical example of such weaponry has been produced. Banks of plasma tubes can be used to focus or steer the signals from the satellites.site interference can be rectified by using the ionized gas plasma antennas. One of the most major problems in communication. The smarter ionized gas plasma antennas do not need phased arrays. corporations such as Boeing have funded research and development into the technology. Contents [hide] 1 Current research . the thermal noise of the ionized gas plasma antennas is lower than that of the corresponding metal antennas at the greater frequencies. The plasma is typically intended to be created by superheating lasers or superfrequency devices. The shaping and steering of the antenna beams can be done using plasma physics. They are called plasma silicon antennas or solid state plasma antennas. Also the higher frequency ionized gas plasma antenna arrays can transmit and receive through lower frequency ionized gas plasma arrays.locate the ionized gas plasma antennas and the arrays can be stacked. By nesting together it means the higher frequency plasma antennas can be placed inside lower frequency plasma antennas. The manufacturing technique used is the silicon chip fabrication technique.fi is being planned and is called WiGig and the plasma silicon antennas are about to be used in it . It improves the uniqueness of the ionized gas plasma antennas. An enhancement of wi.The radar collision avoidance systems which are to be mounted on vehicles is another field of application of this type of antennas. The antennas with steerable directional functionality are also under development now. Such weapons can be intended to be lethal. it is intended to make it clear that it is possible to co. By this statement. A plasma weapon is any theoretical firearm designed to use plasma (high-energy ionized gas) as a weapon.
while the remainder is absorbed by this newly created plasma causing it to expand rapidly. Boeing Phantom Works has several ideas. Statements consisting only of original research may be removed. The leading tip of the incoming beam ionized the target material. but also creates an extremely strong EM field which is tunable through the output of the laser itself. but with large effective area. More details may be available on the talk page.900. The principal objective was the development of an antenna with no physical structure. The present invention is a lens that produces a columnar focus with the axis of the focal column perpendicular to the principal plane of the lens. These foci produce a focal column.07 When the two patents below are carefully read . . There is an apparent interest in plasma for aerospace technologies in the U. "Columnar focal lens" 5. (July 2011) Boeing has considered furthering the research of plasma weapons and directed energy weapons. This rapid expansion not only has an effect similar to a flash-bang grenade. .986 Air Force patent short excerpt: The concept of utilizing a plasma generated by laser guided electric discharges in the atmosphere as the conducting element of an antenna .S. They hypothesize that this captured plasma could then be redirected by a focusing system and used as a weapon. This EM field stimulates nerves throughout the body triggering muscle paralysis and/or intense sensations of pain. Date: 5. The lens refracts an incident wave front with a focal length that is dependent upon the radial distance from the axis of the lens. There have been concerns that the technology may be unethically used. one of which is that a plasma weapon aboard a hypersonic aircraft could possibly skim off the plasma that naturally forms around the airframe of a vehicle traveling at Mach eight. or DEW. The radii of curvature of the primary surface of the lens are dependent upon the desired length of the focal column. as it is possible to stimulate pain nerves throughout a person's body creating unimaginable levels of agony.
). attack tissue and various organs of the body. the plasma would have to be stored and created in highly focused magnetic bottles. since the natural yield of such a reactor is a hot high-speed plasma beam. for various reasons: The technology to create plasma compact toroids and particle beams is presently far too bulky for anything man-portable. The resulting changes in the magnetic field produce a drift current in the plasma that. pound on [original research?] bones. especially a dense plasma focus.407 Navy patent short excerpt: A horizontal plasma antenna is provided.7 Million U. or PASS. Practicality of plasma weapons At present. as the concept of plasma-firing weapons is scientifically difficult. and aluminum into the atmosphere first. From researching the various direct energy weapons included in the contract. one potential source of weapons-grade plasma sources might be a direct tap on a fusion reactor. plasma weapons are merely theoretical.118. but it is much easier to generate plasma if one dumps barium. An amplitude or frequency modulating signal is applied to Helmholtz coils to control a horizontal magnetic field that is perpendicular to the horizontal axis. This is then a particle beam more than a plasma shot (at least as much as any technical definition for such weapons exists). The plasma is somehow made self-sustaining over a much longer time period (as with ball lightning). It may also be possible to encase a bolt of plasma in a capsule of some material. called blooming. Another weakness present in some works of fiction is the tendency of the plasma blast to 'explode' the first time it touches anything. like a leaf. twig. Two of the more well-known examples include the vulnerable cooling times for the plasma weapons in the Halo series. This would allow the plasma to reach a medium distance before the capsule wears out. or the ceramic inserts used in bulletproof vests. or raindrop. reinforced carbon-carbon used on the Space Shuttle's nose cone for example. or the venting of built-up heat from powerful but unstable plasma weapons (capable of seriously injuring or killing its user) designed by theImperium of Man in the Warhammer 40. Most railguns throw a trail of plasma (of the rail material and projectile material) out after or with .e. With a railgun a 'plasma/particle thrower' similar to a long range natural gas flamethrower could possibly be made. possibly a polymer. heating the atmosphere and providing the plasma bolt with an easy passage to the target (see electrolaser). From basic physics. High-energy lasers ionize the air around the beam. The particles are fired fast enough to reach a target before blooming occurs. but within an atmosphere would merely cause a hotter short flame from more violent collision between the flying particles and the atmosphere. The plasma shot out of a plasma weapon would tend to dissipate in the surrounding environment within about 50 centimeters from the gun. in a spacevacuum). One common characteristic of plasma weaponry is its tendency to overheat. This might also represent a blinding hazard for the operator and bystanders.000 universe. but having the plasma particles reach the target before the newly-created vacuum channel collapses in on itself is a problem unless the weapon possesses sufficient power to either sustain the channel or the aforementioned "plasma particle beam" approach is used. A plasma round would glow very brightly due to blackbody radiation.000 Kelvin (K) would be equal to a 700 kilowatt (kw) bulb. leading to quick substantial energy loss. from thermal and/or electric pressure expansion. unless: The magnetic confinement bottle is extended all the way to the target. thus being sometimes impractical even within the context of science fiction. It might also be possible to generate a laser beam "tunnel". This would work for use outside atmosphere (i. Many materials already exist that are highly resistant to plasma. This is used to explain how a war in a forest environment with such powerful weapons can last more than a few seconds. Another laser-assisted plasma weapon approach for use in atmosphere is possible if the laser is powerful enough to blast the air out of the way. a 1 cm ball of plasma at 10. 1000 K would equate to a 70 W bulb. For an example see the Plasma Pistol from UFO: Alien Invasion. Modifications to this bottle could make the plasma home in on its target.
. The plasma thrower would use a rapid-fire small projectile and very thick rails spring/actuator mounted that move inwards with wear. This is because of arcing of the rails and projectile. Atungsten-aluminium-chromium alloy for both the rails and projectile would yield good results but the projectiles would have to be very small so they are fully disintegrated into the plasma. The plasma conducts and so is subject to the working force of all railguns (Lorentz force).the projectile: this is very short lived but extends over 3 to 30 feet.
