The World's Smallest Robot
By Bjorn Carey, LiveScience Staff Writer

Researchers have built an inchworm-like robot so small you need a microscope just to see it. In fact about 200 hundred of them could line up and do the conga across a plain M&M. The tiny bot measures about 60 micrometers wide (about the width of a human hair) by 250 micrometers long, making it the smallest untethered, controllable microrobot ever. "It's tens of times smaller in length, and thousands of times smaller in mass than previous untethered microrobots that are controllable," said designer Bruce Donald of Dartmouth University. "When we say ‘controllable,' it means it's like a car; you can steer it anywhere on a flat surface, and drive it wherever you want to go. It doesn't drive on wheels, but crawls like a silicon inchworm, making tens of thousands of 10-nanometer steps every second. It turns by putting a silicon 'foot' out and pivoting like a motorcyclist skidding around a tight turn." Because it makes use of this innovative bending movement and is untethered, it can move freely across a surface without the wires or rails that restricted the mobility of previously developed microrobots. The caterpillar strategy also helped the researchers avoid a common problem in microrobotics. "Machines this small tend to stick to everything they touch, the way sand sticks to your feet after a day at the beach," said Craig McGray of the National Institute of Standards and Technology. "So we built these microrobots without any wheels or hinged joints, which must slide smoothly on their bearings. Instead, these robots move by bending their bodies like caterpillars. At very small scales, this machine is surprisingly fast." To get around, the robot makes use of two independent microactuators – the robot's "muscles." One is for forward motion and the other for turning. It doesn't have pre-programmed directions. Instead, it reacts to electric

changes in the grid of electrodes it moves on. This grid also supplies the microrobot with the power needed to make these movements. This microrobot and similar versions that could be developed might eventually ensure information security, inspect and make repairs to integrated circuits, explore hazardous environments, or even manipulate human cells or tissues. This research will be presented in October at the International Symposium of Robotics Research in San Francisco. It will also be detailed in an upcoming issue of the Journal of Microelectrochemical Systems.

Everyone knows that CRT TV sets and computer monitors are cumbersome and heavy. Right? That's why flat LCD and Plasma screens have become so popular. The problem is that LCDs and plasma screens are far less durable and have a much shorter lifespan.

By allowing for the construction of very thin cathode ray displays, these exclusive inventions solve these problems!
Thickness is not dependent on the size of the screen
The two types of streaming ensembles presented in this system allow the particle stream to cover a surface of any size from only a short distance (approx. 10-15 cm!) Variations on the multi-scanner transducer removes the normal correlltion between diagonal screen size and device thickness.

High resolutions can be acheived without additional bulk
Stream and scanning direction systems covered by this invention enable devices to be high resolution (more than 100 pixels per mm) with out adding significantly to overall thickness.
The processes needed make the thin CRT are encompassed within the following patents:

- "The Charged Particles Stream Generator (variants), Flank Scaner-Transducer (variants), Multi-ScanerTransducer (variants) and methods of their work", application No 2006/1397.1, Kazakhstan, 2006 (totally 108 pages; 114 formulas; 51 pictures) - "Directing the electron stream in Cathode Ray Tube and the performing device" application No 2006/0319.1, Kazakhstan, 2006 (totally 39 pages; 39 formulas; 39 pictures)

Sani Seat™ Automatic Toilet Seat
Now You Never Have to Touch a Toilet Seat Again!

The Sani Seat Automatic Toilet Seat Raises and Lowers the Toilet Seat and Seat Cover Automatically, For a Hands-Free Operation The Sani Seat incorporates an innovative seat cover lifting and lowering system that eliminates the need for the user to touch any area of the toilet with their hands. A small electrically powered motor is secured to the central flange of the toilet. Automatic sensors detect the presence of an occupant near the toilet, which initiates opening and closing the seat and/or lid. Or you may choose a wall or toilet mounted switch to operate the system. Touching a toilet seat is unsanitary under the best conditions, especially in public facilities. New technological discoveries have opened the door to new automated toilet systems. Much like the automatic touch-less urinals and sink faucets we find any many public restrooms today, the automatic toilet has been invented and is ready to install. And it even installs on existing toilets so you don't have the high cost of replacing the entire toilet.

Patented Technology: The Sani Seat holds a US patent for it's innovative technology. Many of it's features are unique to the Sani Seat and the ability to retrofit existing toilets means that it will fit on tens of millions of already in-use toilets. This market has been completely untapped. Until now. The Sani Seat is available for licensing or outright purchase. This is a rare opportunity to own a patented technology with a vast worldwide market.

Wriggling Away From Cancer
Tiny strings of drug-laden iron particles could kill tumors

“Cancer treatments have hit a wall,” says chemist Michael J. Sailor of the University of California at San Diego. Today’s chemotherapy drugs leave the body too quickly, and both chemo and radiation kill healthy cells indiscriminately, he explains. So he has developed “nanoworms,” strings of iron-oxide particles that could swim through your blood to kill nascent cancerous tumors—and nothing else. This past spring, Sailor published his preliminary results from rodent studies showing that the worms can congregate in tumors, a critical first step to delivering medication directly to cancerous cells. One key to the worms’ success is their shape. The liver or other immune cells swallow up single nanoparticles in minutes, well before they can accumulate in a tumor. But previous studies have shown that longer molecules, like the worms and viruses, can evade these defense mechanisms for up to

24 hours. This gives the worms, which can be loaded with chemotherapy drugs and coated with molecules that bind only to cancerous cells, enough time to circulate throughout the body and hunt tumors. Once the worms latch onto a tumor, they would release their payload. Meanwhile, the body would naturally excrete any unbound iron oxide. The first use in humans, Sailor says, could be for tumor detection. It turns out that worm-covered tumors show up more vividly on MRI scans, making it possible to catch tumors at an earlier stage. Sailor plans to recruit patients and begin clinical trials by 2010. Below, a look at how drug-filled worms could wipe cancer from your body.

STEP 1: Doctors inject train-like nanoworms into a vein, and the worms circulate through the body. STEP 2: Coated with tumor-specific proteins, the worms home in on the cancer. Their elongated shape allows the proteins to latch onto the tumor at multiple points. STEP 3: Doctors perform an MRI on the patient. The iron-oxide worms react strongly to the magnetic scanner, producing brighter images of young tumors than traditional scanning techniques do. STEP 4: The medication can be released using enzymes, heat or a time-release mechanism.

Energy Saving Ambient Air Clothes Dryer by Ford Invention Co. Out of Prototype Testing

The ambient air dryer circulates twenty times more air to dry clothes without using heat to save energy costs.
Las Vegas, NV (PRnine - September 22, 2008) - An energy saving ambient air clothes dryer is one step closer to becoming a fixture consumers’ homes. Recently out of prototype testing, the ambient air dryer utilizes less energy than conventional natural gas and 220V electrical element clothes driers because it employs 110V and 12V power sources, and can be modified to run on solar power as well. Additionally, the ambient air dryer, which works by circulating 20 times more air, does not heat damage clothes or present fire hazard because it does not create a flame to heat air to dry clothes. “I am extremely excited about this product,” states Larry Ford, inventor of the ambient air dryer, “Everyone I’ve spoken with about this product thinks it’s a great idea and would love to have one in their homes. ” Instead of using heated air to dry clothes, the ambient air dryer utilizes a patented design to continually circulate twenty times more air through an 18 inch intake and exhaust system. Because of the amount of air the ambient air dryer circulates, it is able to dry clothes in the same amount of time as a conventional dryer, but without the fire hazard and heat damaging the clothes. The ambient air dryer can be easily moved inside or outside thanks to set of wheels, and is ideal for all types of households looking to save money on energy bills. Repair costs for the ambient air dryer are lower as it does not utilize as many specialized components as conventional dryers. For households wishing to go extra green, the ambient air dryer can be easily modified to run on solar power. Ford is currently looking for manufacturers to mass produce the ambient air dryer. “That is the last step in this process before the ambient clothes dryer can be delivered to consumers,” he states.
