Internet Assignment Internet Assignment Part I The web 2.0 tool I chose to use is called Wikispaces. A wiki is an online site that allows users to add and edit data. From an educational standpoint it gives teachers and students an opportunity to creatively work together outside of the classroom. Students can post their work, give and receive comments, or work together as a group to complete projects. Another great aspect is that it is not just limited to the class; students work can be viewed globally. They can receive feedback from students in Africa, a teacher in France, or an expert at NASA. Lastly, this tool gives parents a window into what their children are learning creating an opportunity for them to work much more closely at home. Using a wiki is simple and if you happen to have trouble getting around on internet and are on the lacking side of the digital divide there are a number of very helpful tutorials available. Once you have created your space your options are seemingly limited only to your imagination. You can edit each page as you like importing pages from sites like Glogster.com, uploading photos from your computer, or embedding videos from Teachertube.com. My wiki is composed of completed assignments from my college course. I have created blogs on Glogster.com and imported them onto my wiki. On my home page I have pictures of me and my family and a short description of myself. I also have pages for my resume, philosophy of education, and lesson plans. I look forward to using my wiki as an interview tool when I begin looking for employment as a teacher. I have only good opinions of this web 2.0 tool. Not only does it allow for connectivity, collaboration, and communication in the classroom, it opens a door for learning and socializing on a global scale. Until recently I was opposed to having this kind of technology in school feeling that it would be more of a distraction than anything. Today I see the undeniably positive

Internet Assignment effects of integrating the internet and new technology into our childrens learning. It can allow for deeper lasting learning and students will be more engaged in their education. If we ignore this technological revolution and revert to traditional teaching strategies we will only hinder our children when it comes to their future which is ever advancing technologically. In my classroom I hope to use sites like Wikispaces.com to communicate with the parents of my students as often as I can to keep them informed of their childrens progress and areas they need help on a daily basis. I want to be able to have online discussions with classes from different parts of the world and give my students an exciting way to complete and submit projects with an opportunity for peer review. I also want to give my students a place to study with games and creative activities at home that get the whole family involved. My ideas are limitless. I am simply excited to get started.
