Wekiva Whispers

Wekiva Elementary School 1450 East Wekiva Trail Longwood, Florida 32779 Phone: 746-3150 Fax: 746-3163 December 2011 Principal: Marjorie Adamczyk Assistant Principal: Michelle Baker Principals Message It has been a busy month! I am extremely proud of our third graders and their Veterans Day performance. They memorized the songs and speakers knew their lines. The teachers did an amazing job with preparation, decoration, and presentation. We might have an American Idol in that crowd! During American Education Week, we had several guests on campus to share how education is important to be able to do their job. What a great message for our students to hear! They shared that with hard work, higher achievement and success at anything they do is attainable. In order to learn, children must be in attendance. There is an Attendance enforcement procedure in place at our school and with Seminole County. The compulsory attendance law requires schools to enforce the procedures for absences and tardies. If your child is absent from school, parents are required to send an explanation for it. Students are going through mid-year testing in December and January for reading, math, writing, and science, depending on the grade level. In the intermediate grades, curriculum will not only be taught but shared how it may appear on state testing. State testing has raised the level of complexity. Due to the complexity of the test, the scale to score will be different. Teachers are working diligently to teach the benchmarks and prepare students for the test. This year the FCAT writes will put more attention to spelling and conventions than previously. We are confident that we can get the students to these levels with time and practice. Have a wonderful holiday break. Until next time, Ms. Adamczyk Climate Surveys Coming home with the December newsletter is the Parent Survey. The survey is required by all schools. The results will be compiled and used by the School Advisory Council to make important decisions related to the School Improvement Plan. Please complete the survey with a #2 pencil so it can be scanned. Return them to school by Friday, December 9. PTA News Wekiva PTA is proud to announce that the Scott Humston, "Pro Kids Show" is back at Wekiva with a brand new show! It will be held on December 13th at 7:00p.m. at Teague Middle School.
