Heartfelt Thanks---I want to thank my wonderful parish family for all of your prayers, thoughts, cards and yummy food during my recent surgery and continuing recuperation. I have been overwhelmed by your love and support. All of your prayers and actions have lifted me up and helped me to feel surrounded by God’s love. You have truly been acting as Jesus’ hands and arms. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Sally Peters
What will the Gallup ME25 Congregational Engagement survey really measure?
In November, our St. Matthew parish family will participate in a written survey which will measure our level of congregational engagement. We will discover how spiritually healthy our parish really is. We will learn where we stand now, so that we can examine what changes we can make, both on the parish level as well as individually, to foster growth as an engaged and committed parish, as good stewards of the many gifts God has given us so generously, and as disciples of our Lord Jesus. The survey will measure 12 congregational engagement items. Some of these include: • • • • • • In my parish, my spiritual needs are met. The spiritual leaders in my parish seem to care about me as a person. As a member of my parish, my opinions seem to count. The other members of my parish are committed to spiritual growth. In my parish, I have opportunities to learn and grow. In the last month, I have invited someone to participate in my parish.

Fr. Vic begins the series “Altar and Table: An In-Depth Journey through the Mass”
Fr. Vic invites you to be part of an eight-part study of the source and summit of our Catholic life. Beginning Monday evening, November 3, at 7:00 p.m., and continuing Mondays and Wednesdays through December 1st (with no session on November 26th due to the Thanksgiving Holiday), our Pastor will guide adults and young adults through the history, structure, meaning, symbolism, and reality that is the Sacrament and the Sacrifice of the Mass. All confirmed teens of Saint Matthews! Saint Matthew Parish has a group for you. SMAT7 stands for Saint Matthew's Anointed Teens with the 7 gifts of the Holy Spirit. Our purpose is to help Confirmed Catholic teens at Saint Matthew Parish, maintain an ongoing relationship with their faith, create opportunities for faith formation, and provide a community for sharing and learning with other Catholic teens year round. We meet on the first and third Thursdays of the month from 7-9 PM for fun, fellowship, and planning. We meet at the homes of different teens in the Parish, and occasionally other places. To find out about our next meeting and location, contact Todd Wilmore at 678-850-6552 or email email@example.com.

Rosary Group Invitation and Prayers
I would like to invite everyone to join the Rosary Group to pray the rosary with us Thursday mornings after the 9:00 Mass. If you want us to pray for someone, please call Helen Martin 770.463.3697. SPORTS TICKER....Our parish basketball team fought hard and played St. Gabriel close from the opening tip last weekend but we fell to the Fayetteville team 29-22 in Catholic men's league action at the Our Lady of Mercy gym. We had a well rounded effort offensively led by Brandon Hellenbrand with 8 points and Ruben Romero with 7 but it was our outstanding defense that kept the game close. Plan to support our team on Sunday, October 26 when we take on St. Mary Magdalene at 2 p.m. at the Mercy gym. Admission is free but he excitement priceless!
In addition to the 12 congregational engagement items, you’ll also have the opportunity to rank yourself on 9 different spiritual commitment items. Some of these are: • My faith is involved in every aspect of my life. • My faith gives me inner peace. • Because of my faith, I have forgiven people who have hurt me deeply. • I will take unpopular stands to defend my faith. Determining parish engagement is just the first step. Implementing changes that will help us to improve our engagement numbers is the next step. GIFTED in Christ is a new ministry at St. Matthew which will launch us on this journey to improve our engagement. You will be hearing much more about GIFTED in Christ in November. This is an exciting new ministry that will help each and every one of you discover your God-given talents and find ways to best use those talents to build up your parish, your community and your family. However, before we can begin this journey, we need to take our engagement “snapshot”…. the ME25 survey is that snapshot. You are a very important member of this parish family, and your honest opinion counts very, very much. We thank you for your participation. If you have any questions regarding the ME25 survey, congregational engagement, or GIFTED in Christ, please contact Deacon Bill Hampton in the office or Lisa Lowther (770-463-9031).

Our lives sometimes go through seasons of change; of closeness to God and distance from him. Yet God the Father’s love is steadfast and ever-present to those who seek with a sincere heart, no matter what sins or situations have caused separation. If you have thoughts about becoming Catholic and beginning a new “season” in your life, contact King Cooper at (770) 774-1182 for more information. As we celebrate All Saints Day, and recall those “living witnesses” of the joy and peace that living the Catholic life can bring, let us ask the saints’ intercession for those who are thinking about finding out more about the Church. If someone you know wants to know more about the Church, contact King Cooper, RCIA Coordinator or call if you have questions or would like further information at (770) 774-1182.

Social Justice Ministry
Lil Jones Ronald Viers
This ministry exists to identify opportunities for the members of the parish to actively participate in the Social Justice Ministry of the Catholic Church and in our community. In so doing participants witness Christ to the world and in particular to those in society who are most vulnerable. Here is a wonderful opportunity to actively practice stewardship in answer to our baptismal call to discipleship. For more information about this ministry please contact Cynthia Welsh 770-252-3475.
