**Investigation 6: Drawing Accurate Triangles
**

Drawing a Triangle with sides 5 cm, 3.5 cm, and 4 cm 1. Draw segment AB on your paper so that the length of AB is 5 cm.

2. Draw a circle with radius 3.5 and point A as the center

3. Draw a circle with radius 4 and point B as the center

4. These two circles will intersect at two points. Label the top intersection as point C. 5. Draw in segments AC and BC. 6. Without Measuring, what should the length of AC be? (Hint: Remember that C lies on the circle with radius 3.5 with A at the center) AC = ________________________ 7. Without measuring, what should the length of BC be? BC = ________________________ The steps below will generalize steps 1-5 above 8. Draw segment on your piece of paper that is the length of your first side 9. Using one endpoint as your center, draw a circle with a radius that is the length of your second side 10. Using the other endpoint as your center, draw a circle with a radius that is the length of your third side 11. These two circles should intersect! Connect this point of intersection to your two other endpoints. You should have just created a triangle. 12. Copy steps 8-11 into your procedure notes. Label them How To Draw a Triangle Using 3 Sides 13. On your sheet of paper, use steps 8-11 to draw a triangle with side lengths 3cm, 4cm, and 5cm. Classify this triangle by its angle measures: ________________________________ 14. On your sheet of paper, use steps 8-11 to draw a triangle with side lengths 5cm, 5cm, and 8 cm. Classify this triangle by its angle measures: _______________________________ 15. Use this technique to draw an equilateral triangle with 4cm side lengths.
