Happy New Year!!!!!!!!!
Hello and Welcome to a new year at BANI! As your President for this next year, let me encourage you to join us at the first meeting of the year. Our Executive Officer team, Jan Garman and Chris Evans, and I have lots of great things in store! Our speaker for the January meeting is Bill Geiger - a former counter man. Bill will be presenting a program on IMAN, which is either an updated version of a pre-historic game called IMANUWOMAN or a community fiber optic network. It will be an interesting meeting with a lot of new and innovative information. Come network with others in our industry and share a good meal while learning something new! I encourage everyone to check out the website upgrades! They are being tweaked every day! We added a new Membership Roster, as well as, a Builder Roster. We have also added an interactive calendar and our Newsletters are posting two months at a time! Many changes are being legislated to our industry that can and do affect the way we do business. These changes will and do, in return, affect your bottom line. Through the Indiana Builders Association, we have a say in what goes on in Indianapolis and through the National Association of Home Builders, we have a say in what goes on in Washington. Do not allow the uninformed bureaurcrats and legislators make decisions that adversely affect your paycheck and our industry. Renew your membership and encourage others to join our ranks and be heard. See you on Tuesday, January 10th!

Planning and Building News: Updates and Information
From the Desk of Frank Charlton….
If there is any portion of the Steuben County Ordinance that the Builders of BANI has concerns with, please bring that to my attention or to the attention of the Plan Commission. We will review that portion of the ordinance for submittal to the Plan Commission Board for our yearly review of the ordinance. Amendments and/or changes can be made to the ordiance to better fit our community needs. We, here at the Plan Commission want to work with our Builders, not against them. Also, I am pleased to announce the Plan Commission has already taken a new approach to the required survey portion of the ordinance. We are not requiring surveys of properties if the property is in a platted subdivision, if there is no doubt where the property lines are and if there are no variances or encroachments involved.
On the Building Side of things:
Everyone knows there is a new Energy Code coming. Just when, nobody knows. When the Energy Code is signed by our governor, we have 90 days before we will begin enforcement. Some time during that period the Steuben County Building Department will hold a Code Seminar on only the new Energy Codes. Time and date to be announced.
The Building Department appreciates all the effort put forth by the Builders in Steuben County towards code and compliance and we look forward to working with all concerned in the future. Together, we can build affordable and safe homes. If there are any complaints or concerns, please feel free to contact me.
