January 2012 Newsletter of the Photo Pictorialists of Milwaukee Established 1904 Affiliated with the Photographic Society of America Wisconsin Area Camera Clubs Organization And the Wisconsin Print Circuit Richard Yehl, President; Sandra Weber, Vice President Dixie Lowin, Treasurer; Bert Hartinger, Secretary-Editor Meetings are held the first and third Thursdays of each month from September thru May at 7pm, in the Luther Manor Conference Room, 4545 N. 92nd St., Wauwatosa, Wisconsin Goodbye 2011 As this is being written there still a few days left in 2011, with the new year right around the corner. Except for the unfortunate fact that illness has affected some of our club members, 2011 was a good year for the Pictorialists. For that, thank the members who contributed photos and participated in discussions. Thank our tireless president, Richard Yehl who organized programs and exhibitions. Thank Sandra Weber for the Photopictorialist web site, and for presenting a slide show of winter and Old World Wisconsin photos at the party, and also thank Pauline Beck for her work publicizing the club with her brochures. The Christmas party was in the Hearth Room at Luther Manor, a setting which added to a festive atmosphere. Almost all camera club members were there, along with spouses and some welcome guests. No one went home hungry. January Programs On January 5 our program will be devoted to the subject of Landmark photos. If you can, prepare 10 or so photos of landmarks, and either e-mail them to Sandra Weber at ssweber@wi.rr.com, or bring them to the meeting on a memory stick. What is a landmark can be interpreted loosely as long as it is a landmark in Milwaukee or Wisconsin. The second meeting, January 19 will be led by a gentleman who made his living as a photographer and as a magazine editor, Bill Stonecipher. The theme of the meeting will be purpose driven photography, and for sure his remarks and ensuing discussion will help all attending move out of the snap shooter photographer category. Cudahy Public Library Exhibition At the first meeting in December we brought in mounted photographs to be displayed in the Cudahy Public Library. The photos will be hung there sometime in the first week of January. The library is located at 3500 Library Drive, Cudahy, WI, in case you want to give it a visit. Paulines brochure on the club will also be on display, and perhaps someones interest will be sufficiently aroused to attend our meetings and join our club. Outings On February 11 we will have a behind the scenes tour of the not too long ago remodeled central Milwaukee Public Library, at 814 W. Wisconsin
Ave. Feb. 11 being Saturday, parking should be free on the west side of the library building. Our tour will start at 2 pm, and last about two hours. Cameras (of course) and tripods too are ok. After the tour some of may wish to roam around downtown to take evening pictures and perhaps have a meal somewhere. Moose Peterson Seminar Here is a repeat of something from the last newsletter. WACCO will present a seminar led by noted wildlife photographer Moose Peterson, March 10, 2012. Signup sheets with price information will be distributed later.
