In todays Gospel we again hear the story of the nativity from Saint Luke; of the motherhood of Mary, the vessel who brought forth our savior in a dark corner of the world and reflected on this sacred revelation in her heart. Christian stewards are also the vessels by which Christ is carried out into the world. They continually seek ways to reveal Jesus in the worlds dark corners. In this new year, let us ask God to give us the courage to bring forth Christ to those who are strangers to us, who think differently than we do or who may not believe that Christ can make a difference in their lives.

Gracious and Loving God, The old year has passed and a new year begun. We thank you for Your active presence in our busy lives, for the opportunities given, and for blessings received. As we embrace a new year, breathe freely through us and renew our spirits with fresh resolve and purpose. Give us the grace to be good stewards of all that You have entrusted to us and to serve You with generous, compassionate and loving hearts. Bless our days ahead. Give us the courage to be faithful. And show us how to proclaim the Good News of Your Son, Jesus Christ who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, One God forever and ever. Amen.

The beginning of a new calendar year brings us a special joy and hope. It is a reminder that time is a gift of God, given to us from His eternity, for us to use to prepare for eternity. The passing of each year and each day is meant to be an exchange with God: He gives us time, and we give our days and years back to Him in service and love, bringing as much good as possible into the world and into the lives of others. The New Year is an opportunity to resolve, above all, to serve God faithfully: to believe more firmly, to hope more ardently, to love more generously. That is what makes a new year happy, and that is what leads us to the happiness that never ends. The calendar year starts with reflections on Marys greatest title, Mother of God, and how her motherhood gives us courage and hope to start anew. Life and hope are intimately related. The gospel tells us that on the first Christmas, when the shepherds arrived in Bethlehem and saw the baby in the manger, they understood what had been told to them by the angels. Why was it at that moment that they understood the message? Perhaps it is because a baby is so approachable. After all, the angels had announced that the Savior was born for all people. Nobody, no matter how poor or lowly, should be afraid to approach him. And how can God become more approachable than by becoming a little baby? God continues to reveal himself in the tiny babies yet in the womb. He invites us to see and love him in them. Yet some continue to be afraid of these babies, so afraid that they despair and are tempted to kill them. May the coming of our God as a little baby inspire a deeper respect and protection for the unborn. Priests for Life

Christ The King Helps at Pads

On Sunday night, December 18th, the generous parishioners of Christ the King helped bring a little Christmas magic to a lot of needy people in DuPage County. That night was our monthly PADS (Public Action to Deliver Shelter) evening at the Etz Chaim Temple here in Lombard. Shortly after 7:00, all gathered for a prayer before the meal, and then an announcement was made that after dinner there would be an opportunity for everyone to come up and select a wrapped Christmas present that was donated by individuals from the Christ the King community. Then, after dinner, as promised, each of our guests came up one by one, selected their present, and then went back to their seats to see what treasure they would find. The mood in the room instantly became jolly and merry and you saw the happiness on everyone's faces. Alas, this is probably the only gift that many of these people will receive this year. So on behalf of all the clients of PADS, we'd like to express a heartfelt thanks to all of our parishioners who donated a gift for our PADS clients this year. You truly helped create a Christmas miracle in so many lives. Thank you, Jarrod & Martha Cebulski, CTK PADS Coordinators

Childrens Faith Formation at CTK

All parishioners, no matter your age are called by baptism to take part in lifelong faith formation. Parents, grandparents and godparents are responsible to see that children have the opportunity to grow in their faith. The family and parish are in a partnership to pass on the faith. We have a "FIRM FOUNDATION" which we are called to share - something that will help us through life and lead us to eternal life.

A note about the Christmas Season Tis the season, or so they say. When do the 12 days of Christmas actually happen? If you answered after Christmas then you are correct! Christmas does not begin until Christmas Eve and the Christmas Season lasts through the Baptism of Jesus. The twelve days of Christmas beginning December 26, through January 6, the traditional Feast of the Epiphany. In the Early Church, the birth of Jesus was celebrated as part of the feast of the Epiphany. It wasnt until around the year 330 that the Church of Rome moved the day to December 25. Today, during those 12 days, we celebrate many feasts. The Sunday after Christmas, we celebrate the feast of the Holy Family. (This year however, it will be celebrated on December 30.) January 1st is a Holy Day of Obligation as we celebrate the solemnity of Mary, Mother of God. There is the Epiphany which is celebrated on the second Sunday after Christmas. Make sure you remember to continue the celebration of Christmas throughout the season. Your children are out of school, so spend some time baking cookies or creating Christmas scrapbooks. Keep those Christmas Carols playing and keep the tree up. If you have a real tree, take the ornaments off and place the tree outside decorated with popcorn strings, pine cones covered in peanut butter and bird seed, cereal strings or any other food the birds would like and let the birds enjoy the leftover tree!

"We hold a treasure of faith Lets pass it on! Let us know if the staff can assist and support you in this task. Your children are a gift and blessing to our parish. Fr. Jarosz
