Working Reference Secondary Standard Thermocouples

! Thermocouple type S, and K. ! Rugged, accurate and reliable working standard ! Excellent stability and repeatability ! High purity homogenous wires and insulating material ! Temperature range up to 1400C ! Metal base thermocouples available on request

General
The International Temperature Scale (ITS 90) sets the standard platinum resistance thermometers as the interpolation instrument up to +961.78C (freezing point of silver). Primary Standard Thermometers should be used for high accuracy measurements and calibration. However for routine calibration by a comparative method, a type S Standard Thermocouple can be used as a Secondary or Reference Standard. The Eurotron Working or Reference Standard thermocouple cat.2160 meets the repeatability and stability requirements of most industrial metrology laboratories. This thermocouple can be used to make continuous accurate measurements in the range up to 1400C and for intermittent use up to 1450C with inert atmosphere. The thermocouple can be easily disassembled for maintenance or calibration. The measuring junction can be easily removed for calibration or to remake the junction. Base metal working Standard thermocouples are also available.

Report of Calibration
The measurement uncertainties of the data shown in the Eurotron Calibration Report are: ! from 0C to 600C: 0.2 C Kit completi ! from 600C to 1100C: 2 C On request a thermometer can be calibrated and supplied with a SIT Report of Calibration on five points. The calibration will be made using a comparative method in the appropriate temperature range. A computer compiled emf-temperature table can be generated using the constants provided together with the Report of Calibration. Standard resolution is 1C in the range from 0C to +1100C. The measurement uncertainties of the data shown in the SIT Report are: ! from 0C to 600C: 0.2 C ! from 600C to 1100C: 1 C

Construction
The thermocouple is made of two homogenous wires, in type S thermocouple are one in Platinum and the other one in Platinum 10% Rhodium alloy. Both are of the highest purity presently available. The measuring junction is soldered with a clean oxygenhydrogen torch and the wire is carefully annealed through a direct electrical heating process. These wires are placed in a twin bore insulator and in an external protecting tube both of high purity alumina (99.9%). The two wires are insulated from the head with glass braid sleeving.

Immersion depth
To minimize any conduction error, the Working Standard should be immersed into an adequate depth. In general the depth is dependent upon the temperature and the medium which is being measured. A minimum depth of 125mm is recommended.

Base metal Tc
Base metal thermocouples can be supplied, on request, to be used in applications requiring a lower accuracy and where a direct comparison with a sensor of the same composition of the actually used. The recommended temperature range relevant to each specific thermocouple is indicated.

Note: Custom models available on request.

Automatic Calibration System

The MicroCal T can be used together with a Personal Computer, a multifunction high precision calibrator MicroCal 200/200+ (see bulletin 08-44), a Working Standard Thermocouple and a CalpMan Windows software package to improve a true automatic temperature calibration system. Using the RS232 interfaces of the instruments it is possible to program through the PC the complete test procedure for Your thermocouple or resistance thermometer to be certified. The MicroCal 200 is able to read the testing thermoelement with the accuracy required and the software elaborate the Report of Calibration.
