CUSTOMERS SATISFICATION TOWARDS BUS FARE

1. Introduction Public Transport System plays a vital role in the overall development of a State. In our State, the State Transport Undertakings play a vital role in this task by providing an economic and efficient system through a variety of services viz. Town, Mofussil, Ghat and Express services as well as Inter-State services to neighbouring States of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Puducherry. Almost every habitation in the State is connected by bus services. 2. State Transport Undertakings There are eight State Transport Undertakings functioning under the administrative control of Transport Department. These undertakings with a fleet strength of 21,169 provide one of the largest network of bus services in the country and carry 2.10 crore passengers every day. In Chennai Metropolitan Area (CMA) alone, over 55 lakh passengers travel in Metropolitan Transport Corporation Ltd., buses every day. As on 30-06-2011, the services offered by the State Transport Undertakings to the travelling Public are as follows:Chennai Metro ± City services 3140 Town Services (in Districts) 6595 Mofussil services 8007 Express services Inside State 545 Outside State 359 Ghat services 521

(b) 66 paise per kilometre shall be charged if provision is made for a superior class of accommodation for passengers in the stage carriages plying as super deluxe on ghat roads.21. The existing fare structure for Mofussil services in Tamil Nadu with comparative figures of neighbouring States is given below:The fare in Tamil Nadu has not been revised since December 2001 in the interest of the travelling public.3. The reservation charge of Rs. though Diesel cost and Establishment costs have increased several times.4 and 5 above shall be rounded off to the next higher multiple of Re. 1/-. 6. .Explanation:²Ghat road means a road notified in the Tamil Nadu Government Gazette as such by the Government under the Tamil Nadu Traffic Rules. 5/.6 Fare Structure ± Comparison with other Southern States The fare per Kilometre in Tamil Nadu is the lowest in the Country. 1938 and indicated in a notice board erected at each of such road. 7. 2. The fare determined in accordance with the rates specified in paragraph 1.2.shall be charged for operation of Express Services of all categories.
