Great Bloggers
Michael’s class were up for two awards this month. They were shortlisted for the Eircom Junior Spider Awards and the international Edublog Awards. While they didn’t win the competitions, it was fantastic to get that far. Five children from Michael’s class went to Dublin to the awards ceremony and came home with some great goodie bags! The school had some more technology news with the release of Ireland’s (if not the world’s) first school app for a Smart Phone. The app which runs on iPhones as well as Android phones has loads of information for parents. We also have a new digital signage solution in the foyer with all the news. Thanks to the parents and staff for their bag packing in August to fund this brilliant new communication system.

Merry Christmas!
Wishing you all a very happy winter break and the best wishes for the New Year. We’ve had a fantastic final month in school. A huge thanks is due to our new Parents’ Council who decorated our school for the holidays and for organising our super carol singing! We also welcome our new Board of Management who began their term this month. We look forward to our annual Christmas raffle on the last day of term. All parents are welcome from 11am on the final day to join us for singing and prizes! We might even have a special visitor too! All the best, Simon

Comenius Treat
The latest news from around the classrooms

Some children had a special treat today for their hard work in school over the last week. 12 children came down to Simon’s room for a special card making class. The children got to make lovely Christmas cards for our Comenius friends in the UK and Germany. We’ll be posting them tomorrow with a copy of our school song CD!

A Wheely Good Garage
This month, we have been learning about different modes of transport and journeys. We read the story, “Rosie’s Walk” and we drew maps of the journey Rosie took in the story. We have been having great fun playing with wheels. On Tuesday, we helped the men at J.W. Tyres to deflate a tyre and remove the tyre from the wheel. The men were so kind to us and we had a wheely good time!

Chess Club
Chess is a fun and challenging game that’s not too hard to learn to play. You could spend your whole life improving your chess skills though because every game is different! Chess has been proven to improve children’s schoolwork, memory, concentration, problem solving, logical thinking, imagination, creativity, forwardthinking and patience. Mikee loves chess so much he said that he would even eat fish if it meant he could play chess! If you’re interested in joining in on Thursdays, let us know!

PE Classes
PE classes in the VEC have come to an end in the school until after the holidays. From January, 1st to 4th class will be going to the VEC for classes until the spring break. We hope to bring some rugby coaches to the VEC. Well done to the 5th/6th class for their participation this term.

Swimming Lessons
Due to an upgrade of the Graiguecullen swimming pool, classes had to be postponed until after the holidays. The pool is going to be the first geothermal heated swimming pool in Ireland.

Knitting Club
Aisling’s knitting club is going from strength to strength. The children are learning how to knit using needles or their fingers and have started to make some fantastic pieces.

Parents’ Council Section
You may have noticed that the parents have taken over a small corner of the school; we are located on the left hand side just before the rear exit. (Don’t worry we’re not on the way out!!) In the New Year we will have, at least, two parents present in parents’ corner on Tuesday mornings between 9.00am and 11.00am. We would love to hear how you feel about the school, what you like and what you don’t like. Perhaps you have an issue you would like support with or maybe you need some information about the school or other issues; we have a wide range of information leaflets and, if we can’t answer a question, we may know someone who can. We have lots of activities planned for the New Year so please keep an eye on the website, noticeboards and the Facebook page. If you would like to get involved, leave your name and contact details with one of the committee members in parents’ corner on a Tuesday morning. Also, if you have time, please come along for Friday morning coffee in the Parent and Staff room; this is a chance for parents to relax and meet other parents. We would like to say a big “thank you” to Tesco in Fairgreen Shopping Centre, for inviting us to perform our Christmas Carols on Friday, 9th December. The teachers and children put a lot of time and hard work into rehearsals. The parents were busy shaking the collecting buckets on the day. We managed to collect over €300, so well done to everyone involved. Finally for 2011, we hope everyone has a happy and safe festive period and that Santa is good to all the children and the grown-ups too!! We look forward to an
