Long frilly socks

Size: 36 (38) Yarn: Gjestal, Maija 200 (250) g Needles: 3 and 3½ mm double pointed needles Cast on 168 stitches on the smaller size needles and divide evenly to all four needles (= 42 s / needle). Knit in the round, place a stitch marker in the beginning of the round (between needle 1 and 4). Knit pattern A row 1-13 ² the stitches are decreased to 88. Knit row 10-13 two more times, and then continue with row 14-19 ² the stitches are now 80. Change to the bigger size needles and knit cables according to pattern B. When the sock measures 20 cm, 4 stitches are decreased spread evenly over the stitches (= 1 stitch in the middle of the purled stitches between every other row) = 76 stitches. When the sock measures 25 cm 4 stitches are decreased in the same manner (but between the other set of cables) so that there is 5 purled stitches between every cable. Decrease in the same manner four more times = 56 stitches, 45 cm (3 purled stitches between every cable). When the sock measures 52 (58) cm begin to knit the heal-flap: Knit only with the stitches on needle 1 and 4 (= 28 stitches) ² leave the rest to wait (on the needles or on a thread). Knit according to the following pattern: Row 1 (right side): *K1, slip 1* Row 2 (wrong side = inside of sock): purl When you have knit 28 rows (= repeated the pattern 14 times), knit until you have 10 stitches left, still in the same pattern, knit 2 together and turn the knitting around (even though you have 8 stitches left). On the wrong side, purl until you have 10 stitches left, knit 2 together and turn the knitting around. Now knit until you have 9 stitches, knit 2 together, turn. Purl until you have 9 stitches left, knit 2 together, turn. Continue in the same fashion until you have 8 stitches left on the needle. Pick up 15 stitches on each side of the heal-flap = 66 stitches (counting also the stitches that were left waiting on a needle or on a thread). Continue the cable pattern on needle 2 and 3 (= the stitches that were left waiting + 1 = 29 stitches, the top of the foot 2P, *cable over 4 stitches, 3P* x3, cable over 4 stitches, 2P), and knit st-st on needle 1 and 4 (= the sole of the foot). Knit the gusset by increasing 1 stitch after the first stitch on needle 1 and increasing 1 stitch before the last stitch on needle 4. Increase in this manner every other row until you have 55 stitches left. When the foot measures 18 (20) cm increase for the toes. Knit two stitches together inside a frame-stitch in the beginning of needle 2 and 4, and in the end of needle 1 and 3. Do this every other row 3 (5) times, and after that every row. When 8 (4) stitches remain, cut thread and

thread though remaining stitches. Pull tight and darn in any loose ends. Knit the other sock the same way. A.
