4Ws for Week 4, 23-29 January 2012

WELCOME (10 minutes)

(If you have first-time guests, begin with a round of introductions and warmly welcome the new visitors.) SAY A LITTLE PRAYER (Materials: enough small candles and a box of matches or a lighter) Have the entire cell sit in a circle (preferably in a darkened room with the lights dimmed) with everyone holding a candle. Explain to the cell that the leader will begin by first lighting his/her own candle and when the candle is lit, he/she will pray a prayer of blessing for one other member of the cell. After completing the prayer, the leader goes over to the member he/she just prayed for and lights that member s candle; then returns to his/her seat. The one whose candle was just lit then prays for another in the circle and does the same thing. This continues until all the candles are lit and the leader closes in prayer. All the candles can then be blown out simultaneously.

WORSHIP (10 minutes)

You may use the following suggested worship songs: 1. Sing, Sing, Sing 2. Lead Me to The Cross

WORD (45 minutes)

Sermon Title: How Far Are You Willing to Be Faithful? by Pastor Rudy Fernandez on January 22, 2012 Scripture Reading: Luke 18:7-8 Common English Bible (CEB) (Have the whole cell read the passages together.) 7 Won t God provide justice to his chosen people who cry out to him day and night? Will he be slow to help them? 8 I tell you, he will give them justice quickly. But when the Human One [a] comes, will he find faithfulness on earth?

Discussion Questions: Q1. How can we show our faithfulness to God? (Ans. We show God our faithfulness by obeying Him. His heart becomes our heart; His mind our mind; His will our will. One cannot be faithful to God if they do what they please..) 1. Faithful Still When God Seems Distant Genesis 37:23-28 23 So when Joseph came to his brothers, they stripped him of his robe the ornate robe he was wearing 24 and they took him and threw him into the cistern. The cistern was empty; there was no water in it. 25 As they sat down to eat their meal, they looked up and saw a caravan of Ishmaelites coming from Gilead. Their camels were loaded with spices, balm and myrrh, and they were on their way to take them down to Egypt. 26 Judah said to his brothers, What will we gain if we kill our brother and cover up his blood? 27Come, let s sell him to the Ishmaelites and not lay our hands on him; after all, he is our brother, our own flesh and blood. His brothers agreed. 28 So when the Midianite merchants came by, his brothers pulled Joseph up out of the cistern and sold him for twenty shekels[b] of silver to the Ishmaelites, who took him to Egypt. Q2. When have you seen God as inconsistent or distant? How was this tension resolved?

Q3. Is God really distant from us? (Ans. No. God is as close as the air in our nostrils.)

Q4. Why do most of us feel that God is distant? (Ans. When God does not answer our prayers instantly. We want to do it in our time, in our time table. That s why we get disappointed and blame God.) Rick Warren says, God is real, no matter how you feel. Q5. Most painful: physical pain, people distancing themselves, or unanswered prayer? Why? Joseph was promised to have a promising future but then found himself to be thrown into a deep pit.
Q6. A fellow Christian going through an ordeal tells you, God has left me. How to reply?

2. Faithful Still When Your Dreams Seem Crushed Q7. What is the dream that God has placed in your heart? (Ans. If there is none, go get a dream.) If you don t have a dream, your faith will not grow. Not only a dream, a big dream. Job 23:12 New International Version (NIV) 12 I have not departed from the commands of his lips; I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily bread. When God placed a promise in our heart, in that promise is the strength we need to have the promise come to pass. 3. Faithful Still When Obedience to God Seems Useless Q8. In what areas of your life do you have the most difficulty obeying God? Q9. What must you give up in order to be obedient to God in all things? WORKS (5 minutes) 1.
