Keyboarding I. is a beginning course. Students will develop and master touch operation on a computer keyboard. The main skill sets of this course are first, correct fingering by touch and good techniques and second, speed and accuracy. Students will also learn how to use the fourth row numbers and symbols and the 10-key pad. Finally, students will apply new keyboarding skills through a variety of word processing assignments.
Objectives:
Develop the ability to type by touch and not by sight alone. Demonstrate improvement in speed and accuracy. Show correct fingering and posture. Use a word processing application to produce several documents.
Resources Provided:
In class copy of the keyboarding textbook Access to a computer and a word processing application in class Computer and Internet access at home is not required.
Classroom Policies:
Students may use the computer lab according to the computer use and internet policy agreement signed at registration by each student Students must have teacher permission to use their planner as a hall pass. Students will use the school planner to keep track of class projects and school events. Students will keep a CTE notebook and store this notebook in a designated place in the classroom. Students are on time to class when they are seated at their assigned seat before the tardy bell. See the Computer Lab Rules and Consequences document. Grading System:
Each student will start each week with full participation points. Students may lose these points if they are tardy, unprepared for class, wasting time, or by any other inappropriate behavior. The number of points earned on assignments, tests, papers, and projects will determine the rest of the academic grade. Student grades will be figured using the following scale: A 94 100% B 83 86% C 73 76% A90 93% B80 82% C70 72% B+ 87 89% C+ 77 79% F 69% and below
Extra Help:
Students may receive extra help before school begins if they: First, request extra help from the instructor. Second, receive a note from their parent/guardian giving permission to come early to school and work in the computer lab. Third, schedule a day and time with the instructor to come in early. The instructor reserves the right to refuse the students request for extra help if this student has not used class time wisely.
After the instructor follows due process (warnings, classroom consequences, parents or guardians notified), then repeated offenses will result in immediate referrals. Other serious or violent misbehavior will result in an immediate referral. In the even that a student has problems which are not adequately discussed in this statement, the teacher will meet with the student, and if necessary, the students parent/guardian, in order to find a fair solution.
