Talk about fun, elementary Students Excel & Explore in the summer of 2012. Fun is what happens on and off site during the Excel & Explore Summer Day

Camp has two very important goals. To have fun while Exploring and to Excel academically. In addition, it provides breakfast and lunch through the Ohio Department of Education. Families on a limited income can request special payment plans or make special arrangements. The campers from Excel & Explore visit many other surrounding camps, parks and recreation centers. The camp has visited the Geauga YMCA, Lake Farm Parks, and Lake in the Woods Horseback riding camp. Campers also take part in art and music adventures through Young Audiences, The Rainey Institute and other special instructors. Each summer new activities are added, and some activities are just so much fun we just have to repeat. This gives each student a variety of activities and surroundings in which to Explore! Then, this special summer camp is set up to Excel-’erate’ reading and math levels while having fun and sharing experiences. This special curriculum is prepared by Kenston teachers and staff from the Excel & Explore Program. By spending the first part of the day on new ways to experience math and reading, the students will either retain the same reading level or increase to higher levels during this seven-week program over the summer. There has also been an additional off-site science camp, where students learn about the environment. It’s all about balance. Campers and staff will sing about light, worship the light of the world, decorate camp with light, explore the sun, moon and stars, and kindle an inner light. Resident camp is a great place to experience both darkness and light. Many of Camp Asbury’s most memorable experiences are light-filled: a colorful sunset from Communion Hill, the

dancing flames of a campfire, the shimmer of the Milky Way, shadows cast by moonlight, lightning streaking across the night sky, It’s darkness that reveals light. On a dark night the more brilliant the stars shine; the more appealing a campfire glows; the more dazzling the fireflies flicker. Camp Asbury shapes the whole person by connecting with nature, engaging in daily Bible study, and living together in small-group community.
