Paper Presentation
SIMC presents a paper presentation competition, so get ready to present your nouveau ideas and bring out the thought leader in you. Register now! Date and Time: 3rd Feb; 1 pm 3 pm Location: SO4 No of participants per team: 2-3 Rules: Participating teams will be granted time of 5 minutes for the presentation. A college can have multiple team entries. There will be 2 rounds. Round 1: Participants have to send in a paper written by them by 30th January, 2012, 10 am. The topic for the paper is Abuse of Print Media in Vulnerable Societies. The word limit is 1000 words. On the basis of these papers, the teams will be shortlisted. The shortlist will be announced on 31st January, 2012. Round 2: The shortlisted teams will be given a topic on the spot. They will get 3 hours for preparing the presentation. Counter Strike 1.6


A knockout tournament of the worlds most popular online game i.e. Counter Strike (ver. 1.6). Play and prove that your clan has what it takes to win up to three grand of cash prizes. No of participants per team: 5 Rules: Race to 16. Official maps- Train, Dust 2, Nuke, Inferno. Maps decided via chit system. Knife round for side selection. (Terrorist or counter terrorist forces). Start money 800, map time 4 minutes and C4 time 30 seconds. Players can change settings of the game but not of the system. No rematch under any circumstances. Gamers are allowed to bring their own hardware, headphones wont be provided.

1-on-1. Choose your clubs (no country matches). Map time - 6 minutes. Game speed - fastest. No rematches and no other exceptions. Use of game pads and personal keyboards is allowed.

NFS Most Wanted


Do you have a need for speed? Prove it by winning the most thrilling games of all time. Push the pedal, brake hard and use the handbrake efficiently. Drift, drag, block, destroy - do everything you can to be the first at the finish line. No of participants per team: 4 Rules: Circuit Races only. Graphic settings are changeable. Gamers cannot use their own profiles. All cars will be available for modification to the fullest. Participants will be given 3 minutes only for the necessary modifications.

Rink Football (Footy Wars)
The second edition of the competition we call Footy Wars. More teams, bigger battles and even bigger prizes. All you need is a team of 8 and some trinkets to take part. Let the games begin! Date and Time: 3rd Feb; 1 pm 6 pm 4th Feb; 11 am 5 pm Location: Volley Ball Court No of participants per team: 5 + 3 Substitutes Rules:

All normal FIFA Rules apply except the ones mentioned below. A half will be for 15 minutes with a five minute break in between. Every game will be a knockout game, with draws going into penalties. Penalties will be 5 a side, followed by sudden death. Substitutions are unlimited and can be used as many times as wanted, but with clear intimation to the fourth official. Offside rule is not applicable. No corners will be awarded. However, for every three corners, one penalty will be awarded. A penalty will be taken from the centre of the court without any keeper at the oppositions goal post. A penalty must reach the goal directly or, to the maximum, at one bounce. Anything greater than one bounce will result in a no score and a goal kick for the opposition. All out-of-bounds balls will result in a kick-in instead of a throw-in. Goals can be scored from any position on the court, except from a kick-in. A yellow card will result in a suspension of 5 minutes during which the affected team will need to play with four players. A red card will result in a sending off, without any carry over to the next game.

Referees decisions will be final and binding. Any kind of disrespect will result in an appropriate card. Referees will follow all regular FIFA rules. Any kind of complaint regarding referees or rules should be directed to the fourth official before the commencement of the next match. All teams to be in proper football attire, with a solid colour t-shirt, shorts and sneakers. No studs/blades will be permitted. Shin guards can be used according to personal discretion. Any match where the teams colours clash, one of the two teams will have to wear bibs, decided by a coin toss. Eight teams will start the tournament in a knockout format with the last remaining team winning the tournament. Teams to report to the registration desk on arrival. Teams will be notified of the match schedule a day prior to the tournament. Teams are required to register through their college representative. The team names and details must be submitted a week prior to the tournament. All team members must produce their college ID cards upon arrival at SIMC. Rules and regulations may be altered according to the organizers discretion, in order to ensure fair play, with/without prior intimation. Any kind of misconduct or violence will result in the disqualification of the entire team with no refund. No refund will be provided upon completion of the registration process. First come, first serve. Box Cricket (FIRY 5's)
You play it at home with your own rules. Now its time to play here with our rules. If you have the cricket keeda in you, show up with your team of 5 and face the challenge. Direct Full Toss hit will be given as 'out' on both sides. If ball is hit directly above the boundary, it will be declared as 'out'. Straight 4's and 6's. 2 runs for every wide and no ball. One bounce, one hand will be declared as 'out'. Bowling will NOT be full pitch; it will be HALF pitch (gully cricket ishtyle). Only 2 bowlers will be allowed to bowl a maximum of 2 overs. No baby overs allowed. First come, first serve. ( First 15 teams who pay the registration fee will be considered as final irrespective of online registration)

Photography (Shutter Speed)
One needs less imagination to be a painter but in photography, it takes a lot of deep searching before you learn to see the ordinary. We bring you Shutter Speed - the photography event at Fest O Comm 2012. If you have the Shutter and the Speed, we have the platform! Date and Time: 3rd Feb; 1 pm 3:30 pm Location: Briefing - Amphitheatre The focus of the event: Task based team event that brings out the agility, convincing skills as well as photographic skills in 2.5 hours No of participants per team: 2 Rules: Registrations for teams that have already registered online will begin half an hour before the event. We want the event to start on time! A sheet of paper consisting of 40 tasks will be given to the teams. Each task will have points assigned. There will be a range of easy and difficult tasks, so the funda is to not only click good photographs but also to use your convincing skills to get the task completed. It can be as easy as making a guy pose in a girls dress or as difficult as capturing a picture of 10 rupee coins. The challenge here is also to create an aesthetic edge to the picture along with agility. For e.g. if we have a task of a guy posing in a girls dress, the task maybe specified to recreate the epic Marylin Monroe pose (her famous dress flying pose); that way the team has to play around with the shutter speed to recreate that effect. The teams will have 2.5 hours to complete the tasks. Participants can use digital cameras but its preferred if they have DSLRs.

No editing / cropping/ photo-shopping allowed. Submissions must be made to the Submissions team right after the event concludes. The team with the highest score wins. Prizes will also be given to the team completing the maximum difficult tasks and to the team with the best photographs.

Trailer Making (Jhalak)
How artistically can you cut, copy, paste? You have 90 seconds to showcase your talent. If you think you can cut better movie trailers, this is your time to make every frame in your trailer count. Date and Time: 3rd Feb; 2 pm 5 pm Location: Briefing in SO6, then Mac Lab No of participants per team: 1-3 Rules:

The participants will be provided one film and a complete soundtrack of that film. They will be given 2 hours of time. They are supposed to make 4 trailers of the film - 15 sec, 30 sec, 60 sec, and 90 sec. The judge will decide the winners based on creativity, style and effectiveness of the trailers. No footage apart from the film can be used. The participants will be provided Adobe Suite and Macs. The participants are free to bring their own laptops and edit on the software they are familiar with. No team can have more than 3 participants under any circumstance. The decision of the judges will be final. The final trailers can be given in mp4, mov or avi format.

Street Play (Nukkad ki Nautanki)
Treat the street as your stage and command the attention of people trapped in conventional wisdom. Awaken thoughts with the powerful impact of expression and vivid delivery to shake the widespread apathy. Break the barriers, hit the street! Date and Time: 3rd Feb; 2 pm 5 pm Location: Outside Central Library No of participants per team: Maximum limit is 14 Rules: Street plays can be in Hindi, English or Hinglish. The participants are not allowed to target any individual, institution or religion. The script can be original or an adaptation. If it is an adaptation of already published work, due credit must be given to the owner of the content. Time-limit: 20 minutes (including setup time, if any), this limit should be strictly observed. Teams exceeding the time limit shall be penalized. Performance should be confined within the Nukkad area, as defined by the organizers. No technical support will be provided. Teams are allowed to use Dholak, Flute or any other musical instrument of their choice, but the usage of mikes, lights, sound systems or other electrical instruments is not allowed. No props will be provided. Teams may use basic props if they want, but excessive usage may lead to penalty at the discretion of the judges. Any form of obscenity may result in penalty at the discretion of the judges. It may range from point deduction to disqualification. Decisions of the judges shall be final and binding to all teams. Dance Competition Group Dance (Beat Pe Bol!)
Beat Pe Bol will give you an opportunity to emote yourselves through your moves! So put your act together and show the world through the language of dance what you really want to express. Time limit: 5-8 minutes After online registrations, teams are expected to register at the venue. Venue registrations will be closed as soon as 10 teams arrive. The CD/pen drive will have to be handed over to the coordinator at least 3 hours prior to the event. Name of the college and team should be mentioned on the CD. The song should be in MP3 format. Fest O Comm brings you the opportunity to romanticize your love for controversy coupled with the determination to bring out the truth. Tehelka is here to test your ability to scoop out news from the unknown. Heres your turn to live your journalistic dream. Date and Time: 3rd Feb; 2 pm till 4th Feb; 2 pm Location: Briefing in SO5, then Mac Lab No of participants per team: 2-5 participants Rules: Every team has to make two 2-4 minute AVs on a topic/issue picked up from the campus. The 1st AV has to show the issue in the most sensationalized way (what TV channels do today) and the 2nd AV has to present it in the way you think the news should be presented. The participants will be given 24 hours to choose the topic, script, shoot and edit the AVs. The event starts at 2 pm on 3rd Feb and ends exactly 24 hrs later. It cannot be used as a personal attack for any individual, college or administration. The issue to be picked up should be from the campus itself. It could be anything from cleanliness in the campus to a fight between 2 people. Participants are not supposed to dramatize the event or issue selected. The issue they portray should be backed up by evidence. The participants are allowed to take bytes from anyone on the campus. They will be provided with the Mac lab for editing. One team can use the Mac lab for a maximum of 4 hours. All the participants have to bring their own equipment and 4 CDs; college will not provide any equipment required for the event. The team cannot use any help from a non team member for editing or shooting. The teams will be given 24 hrs to complete the AVs and they cannot leave campus without submitting their AVs.

Case Study (Dimaag Ki Upaj)
This is a case study competition with a twist. The representatives from the final 10 teams will battle it out in a group discussion on a given case study and then prepare a presentation on the same. The best analysis and solution wins! Date and Time: 3rd Feb; 3 pm 5pm Location: Briefing - SO4 /Computer Lab No of participants per team: 2-4 per team Rules: Participating teams will be granted time of 10 minutes for the presentation. A college can have multiple team entries. There will be 2 rounds. Round 1: A case study will be provided online to the students on 1st Feb, 2012, on which they have to prepare a synopsis of 500 words. On the basis of the synopsis, the teams will be shortlisted. Round 2: On 4th Feb, 2012 the shortlisted teams will have one representative take part in a group discussion on a case study given on the spot. 5 teams will now be shortlisted. These 5 teams will then work on one final case study and make a presentation of ten minutes. The best team wins. Registrations by college entries and online. The event is open to all participating colleges as well as companies. Registrations will close 30 minutes before the scheduled event time. For the first round, teams will be given the description of a situation 30 minutes before the event. The time limit for the performance is 3 minutes and this will be an elimination round. For the remaining rounds, the situations & the time limits will be announced on the spot. Teams exceeding the time limit will be strictly penalized. The decisions of the judges are final & binding. Props of any form are not allowed. The judges may choose to ask questions to the team after their act. Fashion Show (Runway Paradiso)
Runway Paradiso gives you an opportunity to communicate what you believe in, allowing you to express it by means of costumes, choreography and music. Go beyond the stereotypical understanding of fashion shows; walk the ramp, but with a purpose! Date and Time: 3rd Feb; 7:30 pm 10:30 pm Location: Auditorium No of participants per team: 12-16 members. Only 10-12 members can be onstage. Rules: 2 Rounds Round 1 Theme - Open to the participating team to decide Round 2 Theme Way Out So, are you something and you want to be so? Is it something unusual and quirky? And does it go unacknowledged very often? Well, now is your chance to express yourself and do something off-beat! Its your time to take the way-out from the way, which is drab, dreary and exhausted. Extra members can include choreographer, designer, light & sound person, backstage etc. Introduction to explain the theme is a must at the beginning of the 1st round. Emphasis will be given to clothing, choreography, creativity and originality. Time limit will be inclusive of stage setup Time Round 1 7 minutes Round 2 8-9 minutess Points will be deducted for exceeding the limits. 2 separate CDs for the two rounds are required. It is the participating teams responsibility to check the CD before handing it over. It is advisable that the participants have an extra CD with them. Person responsible for the lights and sound should give the requirement 1 hour before the start & also be present during the performance. No live animals can be used. Vulgarity of any kind will lead to disqualification of the team from the event. The decision of the judges and organizing committee is final. A green room will be provided for changing purpose. Each team comprises of two members The Quiz structure is Open. Therefore, a team may comprise of members from different colleges, organizations etc. Cross college teams are also allowed. Tattoo has to be according to the theme Freedom of Expression and a satisfactory explanation has to be provided. The participants can paint anywhere on the body except on objectionable places. Designs from the net are not allowed. It has to be an original design. 3D designs, placing of the tattoo will be allotted separate marks. Please note that this event is separate from body painting and the design has to be as close to a real tattoo as possible. Participants will have to carry their own materials. E.g. All you have to do is bring to us all the items on the list in time. But, wait. You cannot buy it, or steal it or even MAKE it. All you can do is JUGAAD. Join us in this thrilling race against time. Jor dikhao. Jugaad lagao! Date and Time: 4th Feb; 3 pm 5pm Location: Briefing Symbiosis Studio Steps No of participants per team: 2 What is to be done? The teams will be given 3 lists of items in consecutive stages that they need to find in the given time frame. Each item will carry points. There will be 3 stages, at the end of which, the team will have to report with the collected items at the reporting point i.e. Symbiosis Studios. If eligible for the next stage, they will be given the list of items for the next stage. The first team to have the maximum score at the end of the 3rd stage shall be the winner. At the end of the game, the cumulative score of all items gathered will be calculated and the team with the maximum number of items will win. In case of the tie, no of items will be the deciding factor. [The time saved can be used up for the next round. It is a time paced event. The time limit mentioned is the maximum time limit] Guidelines: Jor Jugaad is a fast-paced event with the total time limit of 120 minutes. Every team will be given maps, detailing sections and areas they are allowed to search and pursue for clues. Team members have to ensure co-operation, not only between each other, but with other teams also. The competition is divided into 3 stages out of which the first two are elimination rounds where the last 5 teams to finish will be disqualified and cannot move further. The teams shall be given a certain situation with an eclectic mix of popular movie characters based on a random lottery system at the venue. An act has to be developed and presented based on the chosen mix. All the teams will be given a preparation time of 20 minutes before the challenge begins. The time limit for performance is 5 minutes. Teams exceeding the time limit will be strictly penalized. The decisions of the judges are final & binding. Props of any form will be provided at the venue, depending on the Challenge. Participants are not to use their own props, but those provided by the organizers. Musical instruments (Acoustic mode) are allowed. No form of recorded music will be allowed. Ad Making (Maine Piyush Pandey Ko Nahi Maara)
Calling out to the next Ad Gurus!! Doodle, design and dare to put together the ultimate Ad campaign of the season. Date and Time: 5th Feb; 11am 3pm Location: Comp Lab No of participants per team: 1-2 members per team Rules: Round 1- Online Elimination Round The elimination round is an online event where the teams have to come up with an ad for a given product/service/theme and post it on the page. The theme will be announced on the ad making Facebook page on 29/1/2012 at 10 am. The teams have to send in their entries by 29/1/2012, 10 pm. The shortlisted teams will be announced on 30/1/12. Round 2 Qualifying teams will then take part in the competition where a complete ad campaign will have to be devised on the given topic. The teams coming up with the best campaign will be declared the winner. However, there will also be a special award for the worst campaign. Participants have to register beforehand. Spot entries will not be entertained. Participants will be provided with software for making /designing the ad campaign (CorelDraw, Photoshop, Indesign). Participants cannot carry existing source files of logos and pre-designed material. The designing should be done strictly on the spot. Internet will be made available to the teams for an hour after the theme has been announced.

Participants are given random topics and are left to construe and produce creative masterpieces. All you have is one paper, one pen and one hour. What can you bring to the table? The result will be based on originality, authenticity & out-of-the-box thinking. Also, adherence to the theme will be considered. No additional cans will be provided or replenished. The design sketched on the chart paper has to be exactly replicated on the canvas. Additions/Removals/Changes in the team after the 1st round are not permitted. Zehen Stage Play (Parwaaz)
The green rooms heart beats in nervous anticipation as it silently listens to the brushing of cloth against the seats. The curtains play along as they unfold gracefully. Date and Time: 5th Feb; 12 noon 3 pm Location: Auditorium No of participants per team: Maximum limit is 14 (including a maximum of 6 backstage members). At least two team members must be present for managing lights and music. Rules: The play must be in English or Hindi or Hinglish. The team can present a stage play of one or more acts. The maximum time limit for the play is 25 minutes (from empty stage to empty stage). Exceeding the time limit will result in penalty. Eliminations will be done on the basis of scripts sent by the teams. Teams are to arrange for their own garments, accessories and props - only chairs, table and a bed/mattress will be provided by the organizers. Special arrangements for live music will not be provided. Lighting of candles, matches, hookah and cigarettes on stage is not allowed and will result in disqualification. Points will be deducted for vulgarity and targeting any individual, institution or religion shall not be appreciated. Judges decisions will be final and binding.
