y @Zombagi: Hi, I am doing my project work on simulation of 2D cutting, I am not able to get the chip separated.

I have given the plastic hardening JC and shear failure properties as you have mentioned. I have used master -slave contact, considering work piece as a slave(node based surface),coeff of friction as 0.1(kinematic method) & siding formulation as small sliding....Please help me in this regard.. Hi,the simulation of the 3-D orthogonal cutting process is great. I need this file to have a look for my study. I will be glad if you can send .inp file for the simulation. you can email me here "pepsi_2009@yeah.net". Thank you very much . y Anyone can help on how to determine the cutting forces (Fc) and thrust force in Abaqus orthogonal cutting simulation, please? Hi...I'm just now doing the similar research just like you did.I'm still new in this area and need help from you to send the inp file or step to do this kind of simulation as my reference to proceed this research.you can email me: assyukran@gmail.com.Hope u will respond my msg ASAP. y Hi, I am impressed with your simulation, I am trying to do similar thing but not getting the whole as I am new in this area, I will be glad if you can send .inp file for the simulation. you can email me here "mostofa_01buet@yahoo.com". I need this file to have a look for my study. Thank you very much in advance. y @Zombagi. Thanx very much for ur assistance so far. Now i m working on a 2D simulation.Do u define in ur model the depth of cut and u partitioned the workpiece and defined the interactions between ur partitioned surface (chip) and tool with friction. Also kindly let me know how u modeled using ALE technique. While defining the regions/surfaces for ur lagrangian boundaries,do u also define the boundary conditions where in u constrain the left side and bottom side of the work piece.Pls help me sir y @madhu9476 Hello,I'm also working on 2D simulation of cutting.I don't know how to set the ale parameters, can we exchange our minds?Thanx y @Zombagi.Thanx for ur reply. Can we partition the chip in the workpiece using planes in 2D also. Pls give me ur valuable suggestion. Reply y @madhu9476 Yes you can. Thanks for your compliments. Reply y @madhu9476 Certa-0qaqainly you can. y @InouePucRio Do you mean you have a machining simulation in 3-D inp file? y @Zombagi. What are the tool work interactions u gave for ur simulation. thanx in advance

y @madhu9476 Do you mean friction? If I still remember correctly, it was penalty with coefficient of friction 0.1. Also, hard contact, with allow separation after contact. @InouePucRio Hi i want to have a 3-D cutting modelling inp file, can you send me one, thanks a lot!Best wishes! cao_chengming@hotmail.com @InouePucRio Hi i want to have a 3-D cutting`` modelling inp file, can you send me one, thanks a lot!Best wishes! cao_chengming@hot/mail.com y Hi its a gr8 work. I m doing my research in Anna University India. I m also working on ABAQUS on chip separation. Can u help me of how you partitioned workpiece in 3d . Also can u help me how to assign section in 3d model space. y @madhu9476 Simple! Just create points on your workpiece edges and partition it using planes! hi this is vicky from pune university..i am going to do a project on FEA of 3D orthogonal TURNING using Abacus ...would you please tell me how to set the boundary conditions in Abacus for turning...my email id is vicky5758@gmail.com y Hi Zombagi it is really nice work what you did. - would like be also so skilled sometimes directly in the abaqus prepocesor in this kind field -@Zombagi Hi its a gr8 work. I m doing my research in Anna University India. I m also working on ABAQUS on chip separation. Can u help me of how you partitioned workpiece in 3d . Also can u help me how to assign section in 3d model space. y Could I ask a simple question? My object is always under stress when under velocity field. How to get an object moving uniformly without those colorful contours of stress? Thanks in advance. y That's normal because it doesn't move as a rigid body! It has inertia and it should deform accordingly!

rapidshare com/files/306352729/alfa_minus.inp.html y In Google I find only "Modeling of hard machining: effect of insert edge preparation in CBN cutting tools"((( Can you upload it on rapidshare or other file sharing site, if this will not hard to you&? Thank you

y I enter all this parametes of *shear failure, but elements is not deleting...Can you see at my input file? what i am doing wrong? rapidshare. com/files/298579381/Job-1.inp.html Thank you for help!!! y I just checked your INP file. It is missing many things. Ex. No to be deleted predefined conditional elements set. No workpiece machined surface was defined. No chip/tool rake face slip surface was defined too. And lastly, the tool should be touching the workpiece when it starts to cut. You need to check out this paper: "Modelling of hard part machining", Journal of Materials Processing Technology 127 (2002) 222229, Eu-Gene Ng, David K. Aspinwall y Thanks for your reply. I used ABAQUS 6.7 and 6.8-1 versions, but I am getting same warning...Maybe I am doing something wrong? y As I mentioned before this warning does not mean you are doing something worng. It is just to let you know that this option will not work in future versions of ABAQUS. Not to worry for now as long it is still supported by ABAQUS! y I have a problem. When I input all this shear failure parametets...I take some warning ***WARNING: THE *SHEAR FAILURE OPTION WILL NOT BE SUPPORTED IN THE FUTURE RELEASE. PLEASE USE *DAMAGE INITIATION AND *DAMAGE EVOLUTION OPTIONS FOR MODELING PROGRESSIVE DAMAGE AND FAILURE OF MATERIALS y That's fine... It is just a warning that this option will not be supported by ABAQUS code in future versions. However, it should work within present versions up to 8.6. I haven't tried 6.9 yet! y Hello, you mentioned shear failure damage parameters. Are they used for Steel (or) Ti-Al alloy? y It was for Steel, but I expect it to work with Ti-Al alloy, it is just the the figures will have to correspond to the particular material. y I have given Johnsn-Cook's condition for chip formation .But unable to form chip . There is no seperation . What should i do ? y You have to specify a material separation criterion. Google under "Chip separation criterion" y Can you please provide me the reference for journal paper may be i will try on my own with deform may be...

y This could b 2nd posting (my internet doesnt work well today). Very great jobs you did. I am currently trying out the J-C damage + element deletion and have no success at moment, I hope you can give a little bit advise 1) Is this a ALE or CEL model? 2) Did u partition the model for cutting? DId u use cohesive element? 3) SHEAR FAILURE, TYPE=JOHNSON COOK, ELEMENT DELETION=YES d1, d2,d3,d4,d5 ABAQUS manual does not explain what is d1 to d5. 4) Can I have the name of the journal? y Finite element modeling of erosive wear International Journal of Machine Tools and Manufacture Volume 45, Issue 11, September 2005, Pages 1337-1346 y Gosh, that journal;s editor was my ex-supervisor, a prof in Uni of Bham. Looks like I am going to give him a ring this afternoon. y Yes, I partitioned the model, but no cohesive elements used. y Thanks for the quick reply. I am still need some more tips. - How does ABAQUS allow the element to separate? How to trigger it? Geometrically- wise? - Did u predefine the cutting path? y Great job! I have some questions for you: - What kind of damage model did you used for element deletion? - Did you recieved all the material properties needed for the analysis or did you or your team determined them in the lab? - If the material properties were determined in the lab can you explain me briefly what was the procedure used during testing (some standards astm, or pd or iso anything is good) I'm asking this because at this moment i'm having problems using J-C damage model

y - I used Johnson-Cook damage criterion. - I had the material properties from a paper (journal paper), they are: *Plastic, hardening=JOHNSON COOK 3.05e+08, 1.161e+09, 0.61, 0.517, 1385., 20. *Rate Dependent, type=JOHNSON COOK 0.01,1. And for the failure criterion: *SHEAR FAILURE, TYPE=JOHNSON COOK, ELEMENT DELETION=YES -0.8, 2.1, -0.5, 0.0002, 0.61 y Is your model done in abaqus 6.8,6.7 or 6.5? Thanks. And I'm curious how you defined your friction model. Thank you so much! Great job! y The ABAQUS version doesn't matter at all. As for the friction, you got to specify normal and tangential interaction. Considerr the tangential friction somewhere close to 0.1 or based on your material. For normal interaction, consider no separation. Zombagi 2 years ago Reply y @Zombagi Hi I wonder how did you deal with the item "damage evolution",and can it be calculated by some formular or sth. else ? Best Regards! qiangzini 1 year ago Reply y hi can i contact you once please would be nice..great work...i work with deform 3d...just interested to know how u did with abaqus harishankergoud 3 years ago Reply y wow I have no idea what this is I am studying to be a psychologist.

I read your comment about Amr Adeeb and thought I would check ur video best of luck :) Afr0Smile 3 years ago Reply y Thanks, best luck for you too :) Zombagi 3 years ago Reply y Hi, I did the same simulation (almost the same...), but I don't get any residual stresses on my machined surface... What could be the problem? Thx jackyjoserobert 3 years ago Reply y Have you used Johnsn-Cook's formula? Also, what values have you used for the variables? Zombagi 3 years ago Reply y You have to specify an interaction between the tool clearence surface and the workpiece surface, otherwise ABAQUS will assume no interaction, and certainly no residual stress will result! Zombagi 3 years ago Reply y Hi there, How did you uploaded this abaqus odb extension file into this site, bcoz as far as I the file is too big.tq anuarbakar 3 years ago

Reply y I did not upload the odb file! That's just a movie file you can create from within Abaqus! Zombagi 3 years ago Reply y please give me urs mail id.. I am studying in IIT , in India, i am facing some prob to do this simulation .. y Hi.. I am trying to find element deletion in abaqus documentation, but I could't find. Could you tell me which section in abaqus I need to setup for element deletion=yes for Jonhson-cook. If you don't mind could you send me a copy of this graet file. tq anuarbakar 3 years ago y You cann't add it in the ABAQUS/ACE you have to add it in the input file within the material section. Zombagi 3 years ago y Hi, hope you're great. I'm new in using ABAQUS, could you give me some advice on how to do this simulation?. I wonder if you use a failure criterion for the removal of the layer of elements in metal cutting. Best regards. Lady ladymx08 3 years ago y I used ELEMENT DELETION=YES to remove failed elements, and I used Johnson-Cook criterion for stress calculation. Certainly, you have to create a separation element set which will be deleted once those elements reach failure. Thanks for you nice complement.
