LOS ANGELES (CBS) When you head down to the beach for a little fun this summer, county officials want you to leave the pigskin at home. The Board of Supervisors this week agreed to raise fines to up to $1,000 for anyone who throws a football or a Frisbee on any beach in Los Angeles County. In passing the 37-page ordinance on Tuesday, officials sought to outline responsibilities for law enforcement and other public agencies while also providing clarification on beach-goer activities that could potentially disrupt or even injure the public.

RR Everyone knows its not a good idea. What happen to exercise, and the new healthy children / adult push. Unfortunately this just seems like another way to raise money. Wish all this effort put into regulations / Law/ Fines, was redirected into fixing the economy. http://www.dailyjobcuts.com February 8, 2012 at 7:31 pm

donnieboy ok here it is. this is a good idea because probably 95% of football and frisbee throwers are male and that means more men paying fines so the county will have more money to give to the chicks in the form of food stamps, free cell phones, free rent, free education, free day care etc etc etc. get it now? February 8, 2012 at 8:47 pm

Hasselhof The Board of Supervisors should be fine $1000 each for passing such ridiculous rules! Angelenos!!! Wake up!!! Time to remove the money sucking suits! Soon you will be fine for having a good time at the beach. February 8, 2012 at 3:02 pm | Reply |

No Bachi ball Sad i grew up spending my days at the beach SURFING, PLAYING FOOTBALL THROWING FRISBEES etc. I and am amazed at the ignorance of the Board and the fact that they spent time considering and then passing this ordinance. We do a lot of beach camping up in Ventura- looks like we will be taking our day trips to the beach up to Ventura County AND SPEND MY MONEY THERE! February 8, 2012 at 3:19 pm | Reply |

engineermd Dont listen to Joe, Greg. Youre right. Smoking isnt a freedom because it violates the right of someone else to breathe freely. I dont want lung problems from someone elses choice, therefore they are violating my rights. If the basic philosophy of law was followed, smoking would (an soon may be, for that very reason) illegal. Timothy To the people talking about smoking, banning it was the beginning of the slippery slope that you now find yourselves riding down. Once a government can state what or what not you can do, all things you do can be taken. Indoor smoking I would buy off on, as soon as the ban extended outdoors, all activities that take place outdoors can know be taken, based on the assumption of protecting the public. hohoho WHY DOES ANYONE LIVE IN THE HELLHOLE OF CALIFORNIA?? February 8, 2012 at 8:40 pm | Reply |

djw663 In the red parts of the state it is beautiful. San Francisco, Los Angelos, Berkley and a few other places bleed blue and I think they are trying to keep up with New York and in some cases stat ahead of New York. February 8, 2012 at 8:43 pm | Reply |

djw663 NO SOUP FOR YOU!!!!!! Welcome to the liberal mentality. You cannot wipe your behind unless they tell you too. You can go to the beach but you cannot wear a swin suit you have to wear long pants and a long sleeve shirt because the sun will give you cancer. LIBERALS ARE MAKING OUR NATION A PRISON. A PRISON IS RUN LIKE THE COMMUNIST PARTY. THE MILITARY IS RUN LIKE THE SOCIALIST PARTY. THE PRIVATE SECTOR IS NOT THE GOVT THE GOVT UNIONS ARE A SOCIALIST RUN ORGANISATION. THE PRIVATE SECTOR IS NOT THE GOVT. THE PRIVATE SECTOR DOES NOT WANT TO BE THE GOVT, THEY DONT WANT TO BE THE MILITARY, THEY DONT WANT TO LIVE IN A PRISON. THE GOVT IS NOT SMARTER THAN THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. I AM STILL FREE TO CHOOSE AND I CHOOSE FREEDOM NOT YOUR REDICULOUS LAWS. YOU WILL BE REPLACED IN THE NEXT ELECTION WE THE PEOPLE WILL DEMAND IT.

MDC Ensure that the city wont be sued (successfully) for somebody getting beaned with a football. I suspect that this is more risk-management than income-generating. Dont have judges and juries awarding settlements for somebody tripping in a hole on the beach. Ive left California, and have no love of control-freak things like thisbut I think the blame is on the sue for everythingmentality than on money-grubbing or fun-hating. jbspry California: the trendsetter of the nation. I suppose now Las Vegas will pass an ordinance against throwing dice in a casino with a stiff penalty of course. February 8, 2012 at 8:43 pm | Reply |

Steve Martin I love the the Theatre of Socialism. You guys voted them into office. Enjoy. February 8, 2012 at 8:47 pm | Reply |

John We only go to Ventura County beaches. With dumb ordinanceslike this no wonder kids are getting obese. Perhaps the SLOTUS should check her fat butt into this and have it repealed. February 8, 2012 at 8:48 pm | Reply |

Andyk The idiot Board should be replaced. Many of them have been there way too long. They act as if they have nothing more imporant to do, primarilyt because they dont have a clue on the major issues. CA is the laughing stock of the Nation, as it should be. Eventually it will fail and we can replace all the morons. February 8, 2012 at 8:51 pm | Reply |

JP I find it interesting that there are comments above that show such pride and hate against California. There are certain states in the US that are gateway states. They have more people so they deal with things before other states do and especially those that are actually gateways to the country. I fully agree that this law is stupid. How about instead of hating each others state, we ban together in fighting against these foolish actions. There are so many great states in America. Its that divergence of citizens that will take this country down to the Not United States. If I have said something that is short sited, let me know. Some may even still find reason to show hate because of what I just said. Its scary that so many people just let themselves go brightened in discussions like this. BRBSanDiego I would support a $1,000 fine for using your obnoxious cell phone on the beach, since listening to your blather is worse than getting hit by a frisbee. February 8, 2012 at 8:51 pm | Reply |

Rick R Question?..Is this intended for any beach in Los Angeles County or is it just meant for any Los Angeles County beach? Are the beaches in the South Bay cities, Santa Monica, the City of Los Angeles, and the State Beaches included? This is so fascist!!!!!! First they chase us off the oceans and curtail are rights to fish. And now they are imposing their fascist tactics on innocent beachgoing families and tourists. February 8, 2012 at 8:54 pm | Reply |

pyeatte What a bunch of control freak morons. February 8, 2012 at 8:54 pm | Reply |

Anonymous LA County OKs $1,000 Fine For Throwing Football, Frisbee On Beaches. Cant pay the fine? Go to jail. Hey buddy, what you in jail for?I threw a frisbee on the beach. February 8, 2012 at 8:57 pm | Reply |

Rotorwash I travel from the Western US to Orlando to visit Disneyworld because I refuse to spend money in california. I look forward to the day when california is overtaken by mexico so that we can build a fence around Nevada, Arizona, Oregon and defend the new 49 United States of America. Goodbye forever california (little c), you cannot recover. You are lost and will soon be cut off from the rest of the taxpaying Americans of the other 49. February 8, 2012 at 8:26 pm | Reply |

Rob This is what you get when you keep electing Democrats who are bent on controlling every aspect of our lives. They want to control what we eat, where we live, what we drive, where we go, what we do when we get there, where we work, how much we are paid, how long we can work. How much we weigh, games we play, soon theyll send us a itinerary for each day. Weve lost our freedom. How do you like Obama now? February 8, 2012 at 8:27 pm | Reply |

Ray Very soon theyll make it illegal for little children to run on the beach. Im not sure whats the motive behind it but I suspect they dont want people getting hurt by flying balls/frisbees. Its such a joke! I suspect the LA Board of Supervisors is filled with elderly, idiotic widows of rich real estate businessmen who have nothing better to do than crank out stupid ordinances. Why cant we have just normal people in these Boards? Because normal people do not lust for a power trip and normal people find it against their nature to micromanage other people, mostly strangers. Ryan LOL @ Markangelo. We revolted over a tax on tea in this country and taxation without representation. Look at what it is becoming. We are headed straight down to the ash heap of history unless we do something about it. I am preparing my family for the worst case scenario because I do not know what else to do? Any of you have anything to add to this list of survival essentials? http://www.postapocalypticsurvival.com/2012/01/post-apocalyptic-survival-gear-list.html February 8, 2012 at 8:32 pm | Reply |

Mike It is a huge dump. They fine regular beach goers for frisbee throwing, but cant keep criminals in jail. February 8, 2012 at 7:58 pm | Reply |
