ICT LAB REPORT

Aim: To make a patch cat 5/ cat 6 and use it to network two computers. 1. THEORY: Plugs are normally for either solid conductor or stranded conductors. It is very important to be sure that the plug that you use matches the conductor type. There are three types of Network cables these are: • • • Unshielded Twisted Pair Cable (UTP) Coaxial Cable Fiber-Optic Cable

The most commonly used cabling in networks are UTP cables, has a range of 328 ft. (100 meters)

To make a network cable you need the following materials A piece of cable Connectors (two one for each side) the connector used is RJ45 connector Crimping tool 5. Punch down and 6. A tester
1. PRODUCEDURE:

Cut the wire to the desired length It should not be longer than 100m Peel of the plastic at one end of the cable Order the wires Insert the wires into the connector  Use the Crimping tool to fix the connector on the cable*  Repeat steps 1 to 4 for the other end,  Check the connectivity of the cables     

we tried but we were not successful in our trying to network.*the objective of a Crimping tool is to press down the contacts of the connector onto the wires permanently. 6. it didn’t work. due to the lack of working computers in the lab we extended hoping to finish during the weekend but to no avail. 1. 3. 5. CONCLUSION: . 8. 2. hence we concluded our failure by saying lack of computer or attitude towards ICT device’s and knowledge hindered our success. White / Orange Orange White / green Blue White / Blue Green White / Brown Brown With this done ensure that they are tight before clamping. 4. When connecting the cable certain precautions are to be followed such as connecting the right cable on the right port or rather number such that 1. We connected the cable on both computers running windows 7 in which one was running home basic and the other ultimate and the cable immediately appeared but could not read the other computer as a device or could not appear but both showed a LAN cable has been connected. OBSERVATION AND OUTCOME: After following the instructions promptly we managed to connect and made a working cable. 7. 2.

because it requires few peripherals. avoids file duplication and corruption. centralized administration time saving and conservation of resources. increases communication capabilities. . lower cost in licensing. In summing up though not successful! We noted that networking is important in a modern world.
