Joyce Fitzpatrick introduced the topic about improving nursing practice, education & research through discussing the

4 core issues in nursing: Nurses should be able to practice to full extent of their education and training. This entails about to use what nurses have learned and experienced in their areas of expertise to improve patient care. Nurses should achieve higher levels of education and training through an improved education system that promote seamless academic progression. On aiming higher position on a work, nurses should first achieve higher levels of education. Nurses should be full partners with physicians and others in redesigning healthcare. Nurses should be flexible and consistent in giving patient care and towards other health care providers. Effective workforce planning & policy making require better data collection and an information infrastructure. Well planned and designed care results better patient care and organized system flow of management. As nurses we can do a lot of things in order to have a better view of opportunities in our life as health care provider such as recognizing the importance and value of our roles at all levels, strengthening our number, enhancing public awareness of our value in the society and enhancing our awareness on our own. The next speaker tackled about Nursing Informatics. This is not new to the nursing arena in fact its great help turned the nursing world to be attached to the technologies. One of its functions is to coordinate care that leads to better patient outcomes, and I agree on this. Electronic medical record, electronic health record and electronic personal record means one way, and that is, it helps an individual/people to come up an efficient and less error way of documenting patient care. However, on my part, this would also lessen the essence of nurse-patient relationship since an object is already between them. The next speaker discussed about how to improve and manage nursing practice utilizing systems of care. This includes planning, designing, implementation and optimization. In planning it includes decision making wherein the nurse becomes a decision maker. Designing includes the workflow, structured data and protocols of an organization/institution wherein the nurse becomes an analyst. Implementation, the nurse becomes a worker wherein testing and training is under the role and lastly, optimization wherein the nurse becomes the subject matter expert because it talks about enhancement.

The next speaker discussed about the HEDIS (Health Effectiveness Data Information Set). It contains checklist about monitoring of health of an individual. It includes childhood immunization status, adult immunization status, Breast cancer screening, Cervical cancer screening, Colorectal cancer screening, Chlamydia screening in women, Glaucoma screening in older adults, care for older adults, medication management (for patients who has annual monitoring on persistent medications), Diabetes care and respiratory condition care. The next speaker tackled about the management of patients who has myocardial infarction. Basically, she discussed about the medication management of the disease. The last speaker discussed about the Evidenced Post- Op Pain Management. She discussed the physiological process of pain and basically, she tackled most on the medication management of it.
