Measurement plays a key role
in the definition, success and
long-term effectiveness of an
energy optimization approach.
That's why none of the steps
involved should be neglected.
The analysis phase is essential
to assess the installations'
behaviour precisely and to
determine the solutions to be implemented. The permanent measurement
system can be used to check the pertinence of the solutions and ensure
that the gains achieved in the context of energy optimization are
maintained in the long term.
Why have a permanent
measurement system?
Any project designed to optimize energy
resources and/or reduce costs involves
measurements in order to:
■ Identify the sources of potential savings per
type of energy, per installation and per site
■ Analyze the consumption of energy and
utilities by means of long-term campaigns
■ Process the data collected
■ Make use of the results obtained
Implementing the system
A measurement system needs to be adapted
to the context of the project in which it is
implemented:
■ Types of utilities and energy to be measured
■ Detailed figures on the target to be achieved
■ The geographical environment (locations
of installations, number of sites, number
and type of consumption points)
■ The accuracy of the information required,
taking into account the economic stakes
of the project
Components of the system
To identify and adjust the installations' energy
consumption, Enerdis offers a comprehensive
system of high-performance, innovative
measurement instruments:
■ Current transformers from 5 to 5,000 A
■ Energy meters for single or three-phase
networks
■ Remote-readable pulse receiver for all
types of energy and utilities
■ Power monitors for network monitoring
■ Energy performance measurement and
processing software
Measurement, an essential
function in any energy
efficiency project
■ Enerdis's approach is based on accompa-
nying each customer by adapting a system
which takes into account their specific
features
■ Implementing a global energy management
solution means setting up a Measurement
and Verification Plan (MVP), a crucial
tool for understanding the technical and
economic aspects of the project.

Principle and content of
the Measurement &
Verification Plan (MVP)
The MVP is a supporting document
describing the methods for measuring
and assessing the potential energy
savings in the company.
It specifies the operations to be set up to
ensure that the project is effective and
provides monitoring reports concerning the
verifiable savings.
It also ensures the right balance between
the savings to be achieved and the cost of
setting up and running an energy perfor-
mance project.
The elements linked to measurement which
need to be documented in an MVP include:
■ Parameters to be measured
■ Reference measurement unit: physical
(kWh, etc.) or monetary (3)
■ Parameters for defining or comparing
measurements (e.g. calorific value)
■ Description of the equipment used for
monitoring (i.e. location, type, model,
number, etc.)
■ Required level of uncertainty and degree
of accuracy for the measurements
■ Measurement plan, including: duration,
frequency, interval, sampling density
■ Calibration plan for the equipment, if relevant
■ Format of the data to be gathered
■ Applicable quality control procedures
■ Type and content of the analysis reports
To be effective, the MVP must be:
■ Transparent
■ Exhaustive
■ Precise
■ Documented
■ Federating
■ Versatile
■ Adaptive
■ Evolving
In general, 5 to 10% of the overall project cost is
allocated to the MVP, but the ratio may reach 25% to
30%ifotherfunctionsarerequired.

The SESAME software can be used for remote configuration of power monitors
(NODUS, POWER). The pulse receiver (CCT) can only be configured with this
software.
With SESAME, it is possible to program at any time all the communication parameters
of the products (address, speed, parity, etc.) and the configuration parameters (CT ratio,
VT, pulse weight, alarm thresholds, etc.).
This software can be used to check that the RS485 network is operating correctly, a
crucial prerequisite when installing the E.online software.

Le CCT collects and stores pulses coming from different energy meters (electricity,
water, gas) or digital signals (circuit breaker status, alarm triggering, etc.) in real time,
and transmits the information to an energy management system, such as E.online,
via its RS485 digital link.
Le CCT accepts all types of metering measurement units (m
3
, m
3
/h, litres, kWh,etc.).
8 inputs can be programmed individually as metering-pulse inputs or digital inputs.
Pulse inputs:
• Energy management: recording of load curves of the last 4,032 average values for active
and reactive powers for each of the 8 input channels (for example, 28 days of recor-
ding with a 10-minute integration period).
• Recording of the last 12 monthly metering indexes and general indexes.
Digital input:
• Counting and time-stamping of events: time-stamping of status change of a digital input
and recording of all digital input statuses.
• Recording of the last 50 status changes.

The E.Set software allows remote configuration of the power monitors in the
ENERIUM range via the RS485 network, the Ethernet network or the optical head.
With E.Set, it is possible to program at any time the products’ communication
parameters (address, speed, parity, etc.) and the configuration parameters (CT ratio,
VT ratio, alarm thresholds, etc.).
E.View enables the inputs and outputs of the ENERIUM power monitors to be
controlled remotely. E.View also allows display of the electrical parameters and
retrieval in .txt format of the recordings of the load curves, the trend curves and the
alarm log.
In addition, E.View+ offers automatic elementary tables, bargraphs and curves.
