WALKING IN THE SPIRIT

Gal 5:13-26 13 You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love. 14 The entire law is summed up in a single command: "Love your neighbor as yourself." 15 If you keep on biting and devouring each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other. 16 So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. 17 For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law. 19 The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other. (from New International Version) Introduction 1. A church striving in the flesh to accomplish what God wants

Gal 3:3-4 3 Are you so foolish? After beginning with the Spirit, are you now trying to attain your goal by human effort?

2. Paul was warning - The church was not lead by the spirit but by their own flesh 3. The church had problems about carnality sin 4. Paul is calling them to live in the dimension of the Holy Spirit

LIVING BY THE SPIRIT.

What? a. Walk in the Spirit KJV like Enoch constant b. Maintain the habit of dependence upon the spirit c. Be aware of His presence within you - although He might not manifest His living presence d. Constant fellowship with the spirit converse with Him be a friend e. Depend on His Help paraclete guidance

1. It is to be born of the Spirit.

John 3:3 3 In reply Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again." a. Receiving New Life from above b. Living by the Spirit is impossible, unless you are Born of the Spirit c. To become a new creation 2 Cor 5:17 d. Becoming Gods children Jn 1:12 e. Entering into a supernatural dimension f. Not walking according - Intellectual knowledge rationalizing g. Not living an unblemished moral character

h. The child of God is above all belonging to a different dimension Illustration We can no more enter Heaven than the family dog who can become a human being

The orders of life a. The grass and the trees says to the earth I am above you for I have vegetable life b. The little insect that climbs on the mightiest of trees say I am above you because I have animal life

c. A little feeble child looks at the trees, and the birds and the lion and elephant and says you dont have a soul but I have intellectual life d. The most uncultured Christian looks at all the gratest of photospheres and pundits and say I am above you because I have Gods life in me

I. We are Children of God a. We have divine nature in us

b. We are not only adopted into Gods family we are born of the spirit like Jesus was born in the womb of Mary c. d. e. We have eternal life everlasting life We have the nature of God We are joint heirs with God

2. To be continually filled with the spirit a. To live an overflowing spirit filled life b. Being continually filled with the spirit c. To become a sponge the sucks in the spirit of God

d. To be soaked by the spirit e. To live continually in the dimension of the miraculous f. To become one with the spirit g. To allow Him to be the Lord h. Gal 2:20 He lives in me, I become His vessel i. To become the TEMPLE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT The Spirit of God comes only into a blood washed vessel

3. To live by the Spirit is to be sanctified by the Spirit Gal 5: 16 So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature.

a. Power over sin before you have power over any demonic power b. Not improving the flesh to live clean but divine power to live a life of holiness c. HOLY SPIRIT must come to live a HOLY LIFE

4. Receive the quickening life of the Holy Ghost in our physical being, Rom 8:10-11 11 And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you.
