#12. God's Word is Powerful to Accomplish all His Purposes.

Isaiah 55:11"... so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. We are continuing our meditation on the power of God's Word. We have seen that it is powerful and effective, and also that it is powerful in creating and sustaining all things. In the text this week, God tells us something else about the power of His Word - that it never fails to do what God intends. We can note two things from this idea. First, God's words always have purpose. He is not like us. We often speak unthinkingly, opening our mouths before engaging our brains. The result is a random stream of consciousness without particular purpose. God always has a purpose for His words - a specific intent for which they are spoken - an objective that forms part of His eternal plans. Second, God's words always have power to achieve His purposes. When He says something, it is never wishful thinking - nice ideas but devoid of the power needed to implement them. There is nothing in heaven or in hell that can stand in the way and prevent God's Word from bringing about all that He wills. God speaks when we read the Bible, and and He speaks when it is preached. That Word always has a purpose, and that purpose will always be completely and infallibly fulfilled because of the power of God. Doesn't that make it exciting to read the Bible? Aren't you impatient to hear the next sermon? www.graceopcmodesto.org
