Download and install the Java JDK Download and install jGRASP Java IDE Learn to use jGRASP
Part 1 - Downloading JDK 5.0 • • • Go to Sun's download page at http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp You want to click on "Download JDK 5.0 Update 16" and that will bring you to the next page: Now, first "choose Windows and Multi-Language, then accept License Agreement" and then click on Continue. In the next page, choose Windows Offline Installation and begin the download by saving the file jdk-1_5_0_16-windows-i586-p.exe to a directory of your choice, remembering where you saved it
Part 2 - Installing JDK: • • • Using My Computer or Windows Explorer, go to the directory where you saved the file (jdk-1_5_0_16-windows-i586-p.exe) from Part 1 Double click the file to begin the installation For the most part, you will take all the defaults, but here are the instructions screen by screen: 1. Accept the license by hitting Next 2. The easiest thing to do is just install all features AND make sure to install to the default directory, so just hit Next 3. The program will now spend some time installing 4. The next screen is for custom setup, so again hit Next 5. Now it asks you for browser registration - since I have IE, Netscape, and Firefox (Mozilla), I check all boxes and then hit Next 6. Again the program will take a little while to finish the installation 7. Hit Finish on the last screen and you are done 8. No restart of your machine is necessary Part 3 - Downloading jGRASP: • • • • Go to http://www.jgrasp.org/ and click on the Download link in the top, left of the page. In the next page, Fill in the top portion of the page - it is not necessary, but this is a project out of a university and let's help them however we can Click on the "jGRASP exe" button to begin the download. Save the file jgrasp186_10.exe to a directory of your choice, remembering where you saved it
