Alcatel-Lucent Virtual Private Routed Networks

Course Outline

The Alcatel-Lucent Virtual Private Routed Networks course explains the concepts of Layer 3 VPN technology and conguration based on multiprotocol label switching (MPLS)/multiprotocol border gateway protocol (MP-BGP) and analyzes the pros and cons of Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking architectures. Upon completion of this course, students will understand virtual private routed network (VPRN) design and be able to congure various VPRN topologies and proactively troubleshoot and monitor VPRN services.

COURSE OBJECTIVES
After completing the course, students should be able to: Recognize the limitations of traditional virtual private networks (VPNs) Understand the benets of implementing a VPRN Understand common VPRN terminology and topologies including hub and spoke, partial and full mesh List the protocols utilized for routing and label exchanges between routers in an MPLS-enabled network Understand the operation of VPRN label signaling Understand the function of a route distinguisher (RD) Understand the requirement and usage of the VPN-IPv4 address family Understand the function of a route target (RT) Recognize the types of label switched path (LSP) transport tunnels Understand the details of the data and control planes in a VPRN model Understand the Alcatel-Lucent VPRN command line interface hierarchy Provision and congure a simple VPRN service for successful operation Congure the foundation network infrastructure for VPRN service Congure the provider core for MPLS (using label distribution protocol [LDP] and resource reservation protocol with trafc engineering [RSVP-TE] signaling) Congure open shortest path rst (OSPF) as the provider core routing protocol

Congure MP-BGP between provider edge (PE) devices Congure customer edge (CE)-PE routing protocols (using static, routing information protocol [RIP], BGP, OSPF) Successfully monitor and troubleshoot the congured VPRN service Understand and congure inter-autonomous system (Inter-AS) VPRNs Congure and monitor complex VPRN connectivity models including: - overlapping (extranet) VPRN - Internet access
