Unlike other analytic solutions, the Vertica Analytics Platform offers a robust and ever growing set of Advanced In-Database Analytics functionality. This functionality allows users to conduct analytic computations closer to the data, and get immediate answers from a single place without the need to extract information to a separate environment for processing.

Proof of Concept Service for Vertica
Vertica Analytics Platform
The Vertica Analytics Platform has a high-speed, relational SQL database management system (DBMS) purpose-built for analytics and business intelligence. Vertica has helped over 300 customers monetize their data in unique ways, including Zynga, JP Morgan, Verizon, Comcast, Vonage, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and others. The Vertica Analytics Platform offers a shared-nothing, Massive Parallel Processing (MPP) column-oriented architecture, and has been benchmarked by many customers as being on average 10x to 200x faster than other solutions. It also uses compression very aggressively, both of data on disk and on data “in motion” during queries, which further enhances query speed while enabling cost-effective storage management. The Vertica Analytics Platform runs on clusters of inexpensive, industry-standard Linux servers and requires limited resources up front for setup and performance configuration. Unlike most solutions in this space, Vertica was purposely built from the ground up for today’s most demanding analytics challenges.
With an emphasis on performance and manageability, the Proof of Concept (PoC) service demonstrates the capability of Vertica working with client specific data and defined tasks. The objective of the service is to provide the customer with a clear indication of the value Vertica will bring to their business requirements or use case. The engagement is flexible in that it can be hosted at the customer site or alternatively at an HP facility and managed by a PoC project manager.
The PoC will provide a limited scoped sample of a business use case or specific challenge the customer is attempting to address. Additional areas of focus to be considered could be: • Load performance • Extract performance • Query performance • Third Party product interoperability (optional) • Administration and manageability The PoC will be provided through our trained Vertica consultants working with the key client stakeholder in defining the requirements, scope and agreed success criteria. Typical engagement duration is 3 to 6 weeks depending on the defined scope and excluding any equipment delivery.
Business Value Assessment for Vertica
The Business Value assessment delivers a business focused needs and value analysis, creating a business driven vision for enterprise Business Analytics. It will qualify the applicability of Vertica against the requirements. With this assessment, you can see where the opportunities exist for advanced analytic implementation, complete with metrics and prioritization of the next steps that are aligned with overall business goals and strategies. Fast Start Service for Vertica
Architecture Service for Vertica
This service provides the client with a physical database, ETL process and BI data usage designs. In addition infrastructure integration, sizing, roadmap and security designs are provided. The service approach begins with a workshop to determine the clients scenario, including working standards and requirements to define the scope of the project. A Statement of Work (SoW) will be developed based on the workshop learnings providing the scope, approach, objectives and deliverables of this service. The service will require committed resources from the client to complete and is designed to provide the client with the best opportunity for success in achieving the analytic goals defined by the client in the workshop and prepare the client for new requirements. The Architecture Service can be delivered as a standalone activity, adding specific technical knowledge about the Vertica Analytics Platform to the clients implementation project, or as an integrated part of an HP driven BI Implementation project, following the HP BI General Methodology.
Monitoring and Performance Tuning Service for Vertica
The Fast Start Service for Vertica (Fast Start Service) is designed to accelerate the client’s key staff learning curve on the Vertica Analytics Platform. The Fast Start Service is delivered through a mentoring approach taking the client through a selected range of topics for database, system administration and operations, plus modifying the System settings to base-line customized settings. A small schema from the Client will be migrated and act as base-line for the customized settings. Alternatively, the database schema, data and processes from a potential Proof of Concept project can be used as reference. The service’s mentoring approach provides the client with a “Fast Start” allowing the client to be productive much more quickly than taking a manual-based trial and error approach with their staff.
The Monitoring and Performance Tuning Service is designed to help the client manage their new Vertica Analytics Platform and to obtain maximum performance. These services are delivered through a mentoring approach providing a mix of staff knowledge sharing and consulting.
The service begins with a workshop to define performance challenges, key client staff working on the Vertica platform and the scope of the Monitoring and Performance engagement. At the conclusion of the workshop the Vertica Consultant will develop a statement of work with recommended next steps and areas of the solution requiring additional focus, i.e. Front End Tools, Back end Tools, Data Loading, Query and Platform performance tuning.
