COMMANDER’S CORNER

by Jason Hicks

March/April 2008 12 9 COMMANDER’S CORNER by Jason Hicks Greetings Comrades, It is hard to believe

Greetings Comrades, It is hard to believe that winter is almost over and for once there is not a spring flood on the horizon. I hope the spring finds all of you in good health and spirits. We have had a very successful winter at the Club, Thank you Crystal for continuing to do such a good job. Also we could not do what we do without the volunteer help we get here, from Monday night burgers to Saturday morning breakfasts, so a big thanks to all Volunteers. I am proud to announce that we will be hosting a membership dinner on March 25 from 5:30 to 7:30pm. The meal is free to all members and their guest (limit of one guest per member). The menu is:

Spaghetti and meatballs, salad, and garlic toast. The food will be prepared by the Dilworth Lions. So come on down to the Club and enjoy a good meal for free. Also a big thank you to our Post Color Guard, Roger Christopherson runs a tight ship for this sacred duty. The color guard conducts between 3-5 military funerals per week, also included are various requests for the color guard at ceremonies and parades. Our next venture will be at Sno-cross at the Buffalo river race track, March 2 and 3 . On April 28 and 29 We will be sponsoring Loyalty days for 9 District. Commander Dave Coalwell and President Gail Brekke will be recognized for a job well done. In closing please remember our brave men and women who are serving overseas protecting us from those who wish us harm. Yours in Comradeship,

th

Spring is just around the corner, what a wonderful winter we have had. I hope March is just as nice as the past few months. March 25 we will be hosting a Membership Dinner, see Commander Jason's article for all the details. Our next district meeting is in Crookston, on March 10 , if you would like to join us please give me a call. It is always great to get together with our sisters around the district. I am never afraid to take their ideas and suggestions and try them at our home post. I hope you will consider joining us for a meeting here in Dilworth, they are very interesting, and it is a great time to hear about all the projects our Auxiliary is involved with. The meetings are the 2 Thursday at 7:00. If you would like to volunteer to help out there are several opportunities. We host bingo at the VA hospital once a month, we work with the Jr. Girls Unit, and we cook and serve dinners every Wednesday night. Just let me know what you would be interested in helping with. We will be hosting Loyalty Days April 28 and 29 , and the joint Testimonial for our District 9 Commander Dave Coalwell and our District 9 Auxiliary President Gail Brekke. There will be lots of opportunities to volunteer with preparations leading up to the weekend, and on both Saturday and Sunday. Please call me if you are interested in helping out.

Would you like to receive the newsletter via email rather than mail? Send me your email address and we will get you on the list, Karen@gomoorhead.com. My goal is to get save enough money from printing and postage to go back to sending the newsletter out monthly.

MEN’S AUXILIARY PRESIDENT’S CORNER by Joshua Haugen

Another winter season has come to pass, with just a few decent snow falls

all was pretty calm this year. I only had to bring the snow blower out once this year, and you will not hear me complain about that one bit. The Men's Auxiliary had the pleasure of helping out with bingo at the VA on the 16th of February along with the some of the Junior Girls and the ladies Auxiliary. I would have to say it was a pleasure to help and look forward to helping out in the future.

I would like to thank everyone for coming out to our pancake breakfasts, with each passing month our numbers continue to grow. We are hoping to

return to the numbers we once had, but are still more than happy with how many people we are serving. Please pass the word onto your friends and

neighbors. This money is used to support local programs.

our pancake breakfasts are always the 3rd Saturday of the month, 8AM to 11AM. The cost is $5 a plate, 2nds are free, and children 5 and under free. The Men's Auxiliary is once again hosting the Cowboy Up Kick Off. The

event will be on May 5th. We work with the Cowboy Up Committee in running this all day event. Breakfast is served from 8am to 11am with the silent auction running throughout the day. We will be serving pulled pork

sandwiches, pasta salad and chips for dinner, starting at 4 and serving till 7:30. We have Karaoke to follow that evening, 8:00 till midnight. All the money raised at this event goes to the Roger Maris Cancer Center. I hope to see everyone down for the day and enjoy the auction, food, and entertainment.

I wish everyone a happy and dry spring season Step up to serve our Veterans!

As a reminder

Josh Haugen Men's Aux President

Jr. Girls

Our Jr. Girls are busy making jewelry to sell at the Department convention in June. We are looking for a couple of parents that would be able to go to the convention with us. Please contact Joann Lien, 701-388-1563 or Karen Haugen, 701-367-1518 if you are interested in attending the convention.

The meeting in April will be moved to the 3 Easter being on the 2 Sunday.

Please consider having your daughters or granddaughters join the junior girls. Their eligibility requirements are the same as an auxiliary member, and the age is 5 to 16.

We are always looking for educational opportunities for the girls to participate in, if you have any suggestions please let us know.

Respectfully

Joann Lien and Karen Haugen
