CAPTION: SG HIGHWAY, AHMEDABAD Shots of the SG Highway- Late night- empty roads. Wide cuts of the highway ominous music on the sound track. 1. ANCHOR COMES ON SCREEN (NIGHT)- HIGHWAY- LONELY One night in December, 2010. A very cold night on the near deserted SG Highway in the city of Ahmedabad. SCENE 2: HIGHWAY NIGHT/EXT

Wide shotsound of motorbike.from distance we see a motorbike moving across the frame. Mid shot..we see a young guy Pankaj Maitri (27 years old)driving the bike..Behind him we see 24 year old Priyaher head reclined on Pankajs shoulder(we dont go very close to her).close of Pankaj..driving the bikeclose of the tyres.close of Priyas hand on Pankajs shoulder.close of the dupatta Priya is wearing..(Choose white or light color..that would be prominent in night) .close of the tyres..back tyrethe duppatta fluttering close to the tyre. Close of Pankaj. The duppatta entangles in the back wheel. Close of Pankaj..feels a jerk.close of the tyreswobbling and moving out of the frame. Wide of the highwaysound of bike crashing. SCENE 2A: NIGHT/EXT BY THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY

Bike lying on the side of the bushes. We open with the close of the front wheel..spinning..camera moves to Pankaj..who is lying injured grimacing..CUT..from the middle of the bike..camera moves to the back wheel..and we see the dupatta entangledcamera follows the dupattaand it moves to Priya..the dupatta badly knotted around her neck. Priya lies lifeless.camera rests on her face. Eyes closed. 2. ANCHOR COMES ON SCREEN (NIGHT)- LONELY HIGHWAY 9th of December, 2010. Priya Nayak, a 24 year old girl, the pillion rider on the bike, an employee with a BPO in Ahmedabad, was not feeling too well. It was the 5th death anniversary of her father. When she was heading back home that day with her office colleague, Pankaj Maitri, she had no inkling of the accident she was going to meet with.

Their mother, a 50 year old woman sits besides them in white saree. There is a tinge of sadness on all threes faces. CUTPriya and Shreya do namaskaar to their fathers photograph.

Priya is putting her purse inside her handbag. She is in the same dress..with dupatta (the one she met with an accident in)mother comes to her.(Mother: Priya..take an off today..its your fathers barsiI will feel very lonely with Shreya and you gone..the whole dayPriya: I cant mummy. Camera moves from a few girls and guys at a cubicle all with head phones..attending to callsto Priya at her deskwith the head phone..attending to a customer..(Priya: Sorry to keep you on hold sir..can I have your telephone number97650006..(she punches the number on her key board)sir I will need your birthdate for verificationyes..yes..one second sir..)..camera moves from Priya to another cubiclewhere Pankaj Maitri is seatedwearing the head phone..working on his comp..he is looking at Priyafrom his POVPriya talking to the customer..Pankaj gets up from his cubicle walks around to Priyas cubiclePriya on the call(Priya: Is there anything else I can help you with sirhave a good day sir..)..Priya disconnects the call..Pankaj leans(Pankaj: Hi PriyaPriya (looks up): Hi..Pankaj: You look very hassled.Priya: NothingPankaj: SurePriya: Sure..thanks for asking)..Pankaj moves onPriya looks away. Priya enters the cabin(Priya: May I come in sir..)..Boss looks up from his computer(this is a young boss)(Boss: Hey..Priya..whats up)..Priya walks in (Priya: Sir..I would like a half day todayBoss: Why..what happened..Priya: Not feeling so wellBoss: Oh..Ok..Priya..the staff is short today..otherwise I would have immediately given you a half day..please stay on for some time..leave early..by 6 pleasePriya: Ok sir..Boss: Thanks PriyaI will surely give you a half day..on a day you are feeling betteryou can enjoy the half dayya..cheers)..Priya leaves..

7 Pankaj at his cubicle..his cell rings..the name flashes..NIDHI..Pankaj picks up the call(Pankaj: Hi NidhiNidhi: Hey Pankaj..there is 2 hours for your shift to get over..Pankaj: So..Nidhi: Take an hour breakPankaj: What do you wantNidhi: Get on your bike and get to my house..you need to drop Priya back home..Pankaj: Oh..fine..I will be there in 10 minutes)..Pankaj cuts the phone.gets up..juts into the next cubicle..where another guy of his age is there(Pankaj: Sandip..I am patching my line to you..fill me up for the next hourSandip: Surejust one hour..okand we are square on the swapping..)Pankaj leaves

From Nidhis home in Thaltej, Ahmedabad..to Priyas home in Gota..was not much of a distance. Nidhi was concerned for Priya..hence she called upon their colleague, Pankaj to drop her home. Nobody had an inkling what was to happen that night.

Pankaj gets up slowly..he moves to the bike..holding his hand in pain limping..looks at Priya..is shocked..he rushes to her..(Pankaj: (frantic)..Priya..Priya)..Pankaj is now scared..he fishes for his cell inside his pocket..and dials.

SCENE 11B: NIGHT/INT

NIDHIS HOME

Nidhi..in the kitchen..her cell rings..she picks it up(Nidhi: Haan Pankaj..drop kar diya..Priya ko..Pankaj: Nidhiwe met with an accident..Nidhi: What..how is Priya Pankaj: Nidhi..she is unconscious I thinkNidhi: ShitPankaj: Nidhi..I am rushing to the Sola Hospitalplease reach thereI am scaredNidhi: You want me to send the ambulance..are you okPankaj: I am hurt..but ok..please send the ambulance..Nidhi: All right..)..Nidhi..cuts..the phone..and dials

BY THE HIGHWAY SIDE

Pankaj..tense and worried..standing by the highwayno vehicle aroundfrom the distance..he sees the ambulance..coming with its siren blaringPankaj waves out.CUT..the ambulance at the spotNidhi gets down..along with the ward boys Nidhi looks at Priya..(Nidhi: Oh my god..)..the ward boys..get Priya into the stretcherNidhi and Pankaj too get into the ambulance..the ambulance drives off

9 SCENE 13: HOSPITAL NIGHT/INT

(GIVE NO NAME TO THE HOSPITAL)Priya on a stretcher..rushed in.Nidhi..and Pankaj..by the sideboth tense..Priya is taken into the OPDNidhi turns to Pankaj.. (Nidhi: Pankaj..you also get checked and treated..I will inform..Priyas mom and sister..)Nidhi moves aside..as Pankaj goes to the reception.Nidhi..dialsCUT Doctor comes out of the OPD.Nidhi waiting outside..rushes to the doctor(Nidhi: How is she..Doctor: Dead. She was dead on arrival..nothing much we could do..)..Nidhi shocked..(Doctor: I need to inform the police..its a police case) Doctor moves..on..Pankaj.comes..his hand bandaged.limping a bitsees Nidhi..in shock..sitting on the benchPankaj rushes to her..(Pankaj: What happened..how is Priya..)..Nidhi speechless.from the corridor..Shreya and her mom come rushing..they see Nidhi..rush to her..(Mother: Where is Priya..Nidhi..)..Nidhi doesnt speak(Shreya: Nidhi..where is Priya..how is she..)..Pankaj is shivering.Nidhi looks up..(Nidhi: She is no more..she was already dead when we brought her)..shock on Shreya..and mothers face(Mother: What are you talking.what happened..where is she..Shreya: Nidhiwhat happened..)..Nidhi breaks downPankaj stands stunned CUTPI Bhatt..and PSI Sanghvi..walk indoctor with them..points to Nidhi..Pankaj..Shreya and mother..(Doctor: they are with her..)..Bhatt and Sanghvi move towards the gatheringCUTBhatt and Sanghvi with Pankajin the background..mother is crying..Shreya holding her..Nidhi next to them(Pankaj: I was on the way to drop her..I dont know how..her dupatta got entangled in the tyre..I felt a jerk..and lost controlPI: Where is the bikePankaj: Its at the spotI had called Nidhi..she got the ambulance there)PI turns to PSI..(PI: Sanghvi..you go with him to the spot..I will speak to the doctor..)Pankaj limps and leaves with PSI

Camera moves from the bike the duppatta..still entangled..around the tyre.. Pankaj with PSI..and two constables..PSI looks around(PSI: She was on the back seat(the constable writes down)..Pankaj: Yes sir..we were coming from there..Thaltej sidePSI: What would the speed be..approximatelyPankaj: Around 90 sir..there was no traffic)..PSI turns to constable(PSI: Picture banao..area ka bike barabar check karoand take that duppata..with a handkerchief..)..camera moves to the dupatta

10 SCENE 15: NIGHT/INT POST MORTEM ROOM

Camera moves from the dead body of Priya to the same doctor with PI(Doctor: Death due to suffocationPI: The guy was saying her dupatta got entangled..in the back tyre..Doctor: Yesthere are marks..on the neck)..PI comes close to the body(PI: Any other injuriesDoctor: Abrasions on the hands and legsPI: No breakage any whereDoctor: No..PI: Isnt that strangeDoctor: Yesthat is why I didnt say anything in front of the family)..PI turns to Doctor..(Doctor: The bike overturned..and fell by the side..but not a single bone brokenand what surprised me..is that guy..has only a minor abrasion on his hand..and few on his legs)..PI looks at Priyas body(Doctor: and something very startling..PI: What..)..Doctor holds up..Priyas hands(Doctor: These abrasions on her hands..dont like that to be from an accident..they actually look like scratchesPI: I suspect some foul play..Doctor: On the face of it..it seems sowith such strangulation where the duppatta.gets entangled around her neck to suffocate her..plus the hard fallthe neck bone should have cracked..it hasnt)..camera moves to PI

Camera moves from PI to Pankaj(Pankaj: He was wearing a helmet..PI: So you didnt see his face properly..Pankaj: YaPI: And it took because Priya met up with this friend..Pankaj: Yes sir..PI: She met up with friend..obviously from what you are describing..she was close to him..Pankaj: It looked soPI: But she didnt choose to go home with him..she came back and rode with you..Pankaj: Yes sir..I dont know whyPI: Well..we will get to that friend and know why..you can go..but we will talk to you again..)..Pankaj gets up and leaves..as PI and PSI look on.FADE OUT

Camera moves from Priyas fathers photograph..PI with mother and Shreya..both in shambles..eyes red and swollen(mother: I didnt want her to go the office yesterday..it was her fathers death anniversary..now we have lost Priya also on the same dayshe also didnt want to go officePI: Is there any male friend of Priya..you would know..she apparently met someone on the way back..is what Pankaj says..the guy on whose bike she met with the accidentShreya: Didi was close to Nidhi..I know..anyother friends..male..I dont know..but if she had we would have known..there was never anything sly or like that about her friendship with anyone.

PI with mother and Shreya..(Shreya: Priya didnt have any boyfriendsMother: she was always concerned about home..after my husband passed away..the entire burden of the house was on Priyarunning the house..educating Shreya.)

Camera moves to the cubicle where Pankaj is working..he is disturbed..his hand is still in bandagehe looks towards the bosss office..camera moves to the bosss office. Inside are the PI and PSI with the boss

PI and PSI with Boss..(Boss: Priya was a very nice girl..very good at her work..PI: We know that..we need to know was there anything between her and Pankajanything that you people know about..which Pankaj is not admittingBoss: No..I dont know any such thing..I doubt there was anything between them..if there was there would have been gossip going aroundbut why..you people think it was not an accident PI: Yes..we have reasons to believe it was not accidentit was a planned accident Boss: What..you mean to say it was murderPI: could be)

IN THE OUTSIDE CUBICLE AREA

Camera moves from Pankaj as he gets to work..camera moves to PI and PSI walking out of the bosscabin..they move past..Pankaj..PI stops..turns and comes to PankajPankaj looking down..(PI: I dont think this accident happenedit was made to happen..made to look like an accident..Pankaj (looks up): I really dont know why you peopleare saying this..it was an accident..)..PI bends down(PI: there was something between you and Priyathe day I am sure this wasnt an accident..I will make you speak..till that time..you are not to leave the city without informing us..is that understood..Pankaj: Understood)..PI and PSI leave as Pankaj watches.

PI with PSI(PSI: Sir..I dont think that Nidhi is hiding anything..she genuinely doesnt know..if there was anything between this Pankaj and PriyaPI: But I am sure that he has killed Priya..and made it look like an accidentwhy is the question) SCENE 22: DAY/EXT BY THE HIGHWAY SIDE

The accident spotPI and PSI standing with the police vehicle on the side..very eerie build upPI looking on either sides..(PI: Around 10this entire highway stretch is absolutely desertedPSI: And that too on winter nightsits deserted much earlier than the normal hoursPI: Sanghvi I have a feeling that Priya was already dead..when she was brought herePSI: Nothing to prove it..until the second post mortem report throws up something..

4. ANCHOR COMES ON SCREEN (HIGHWAY- DAY)

There was a strangulation mark on Priyas neck. The strangulation was indeed made by the dupatta she wore. But there was a serious doubt whether the strangulation was caused by the accident. Everything else on the bodykept pointing it was not an accident. The second post mortem..confirmed that there was more to it..than just an accident.
