On this special evening let me first remind you the great technocrat who changed our style of computing

and a visionary who will always be remembered for his contributions – The founder and Ex-CEO of APPLE Inc Mr. Steve Jobs. I am sure everyone here knows his contributions. He was the first person to introduce the concept of GUI and successfully implemented in his Macintosh computers. The idea of fonts and the use of mouse as an input device are the results of his creativity. He has more than 300 patents on his name. This event SoftEX-2011 that appeals to showcase ideas and explores innovation tributes to Steve Jobs who said, “Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower”. And Steve was the true innovative leader who energized the market even in the periods of recession by his revolutionary products like ipod, iphone and ipads. In that period he was confident that quality is the only solution. He remarked, “A lot of companies have chosen to downsize, and maybe that was the right thing for them. We chose a different path. Our belief was that if we kept putting great products in front of customers, they would continue to open their wallets“. Not only Apple but we all would certainly miss his untimely exit. We gathered here for a prize distribution ceremony and I am sure everyone here is eager to know the prize winners and we are eager too, to handshake with the winners. The Dept of Comp Sci has a great history of organizing innovative programmes that are useful to students, teaching community and the society. In 1999, 2000 and 2001 we have pioneered the idea of exhibition of softwares developed by students. In last few years we have witnessed several such events are organized in various institutions. The department is aware of its social responsibility and hence come up with an idea of IT Dindi – our vehicles visited to the remote areas of tribal parts of North Maharashtra. We have observed the wide open eyes of 7th standard girls from villages like Akkalkuwa, Dhadgaon when they first saw computer and animation on the screen. For this event we have received approximately 100 entries in a short span of 10 days. Today more than 200 participants from more than 25 colleges of five different universities have exhibited their talent and competing for the fabulous prizes. I am sure that the daylong interaction of participants among each other would prove useful to everyone in your future life. We have taken care that experienced software professionals from IT industry evaluate your softwares. We have requested one of the evaluators to share his views with you. I am sure those remarks will certainly benefit you. The department has decided to organize this event regularly now onwards. The dept is also organizing a lecture series in December and a national conference in Feb. 2012. I wish to see you all in those programmes too.

I hope you must have enjoyed the day long proceedings and the beautiful campus of the university. I am thankful to you all for your response and wish you all a HAPPY DIWALI in advance. Our team of volunteers is trying their level best for smooth organization of the event but still let me say sorry in case if anyone of you had some inconvenience. Thanks .
