Dear April Fools participant, This is your “information” packet containing information for all 3 cities: Calistoga, St.

Helena, and Napa. Please read it over and get ready to ride. The following charities are the benefactors: Calistoga: Calistoga Family Center St. Helena: St. Helena Family Center Napa: Napa County Bicycle Coalition & Cope Family Center Please set a mileage goal for the month. Reach your goal to become an official April Fool. Each participant is asked to gather at least $0.25 per mile in pledges. For a parent/child team we ask that you each raise $0.25 per mile in pledges. “flat pledges” in an equivalent amount is fine! Online payments! The website now supports online payments (it might not be ready until later in March). If you want your sponsors to pay online just point them to the “Donate Now” page. Give them your username so that their pledge is tagged to the miles you ride. Your miles will bring in additional dollars because local businesses and service organizations have also made pledges that apply to all the miles ridden. Log your miles every time you ride. Please, let’s keep it fair and honest. No “banking” of miles to surprise your competition. Stationary bike miles rides longer than 20 miles will be clipped. Miles beyond 20 are automatically reduced by 50%. (A 50 mile ride will be 20 + (30/2) or 35 miles). Please be honest. Use the new “Stationary bike” checkbox and the system will take care of the rest. Please join the April Fools Facebook page to keep up to date with the latest information. Each town will host some sort of post April Fools celebration in early May. More information will be available later in the month. The next page is the “Pledge sheet” used for tracking your pledges. If you fill this sheet, just print off another copy. The final pages are city specific letters that you give each of your sponsors. Print a bunch of copies of the letter for your city. Give that letter to your sponsors. Feel triumphant!—you did something good for yourself and for someone else!

Dear April Fools Sponsor, Would you sponsor me in a bike-a-thon? We are raising money for the Calistoga Family Center! Each year the Calistoga Bikeshop hosts a month-long activity called the April Fools Challenge where all the participants track their miles ridden on any sort of bicycle, be it on the road, in the mountains, or even on a unicycle. At the end of the month there is a fun dinner and awards ceremony where we all feel like winners for having worked off some of the winter’s rust. The person who rides the most miles during the month is crowned Grand April Fool. This year we decided to make this event even more meaningful by using it as an opportunity to raise money for a worthy local charity – the Calistoga Family Center. The Calistoga Family Center is a nonprofit organization offering a wide variety of services ranging from medical care, and counseling to education for the Upper Valley community. For more information, please call Executive Director Victoria Li at 707-942-6206 or visit www.CalistogaFamilyCenter.org. Sponsors are giving a TAX DEDUCTIBLE Gift to the center that will be used to support its various community programs. April Fools organizers carry all expenses associated with the event; therefore, your total donation will go directory to the family center. You may sponsor me on a per mile basis or a flat donation. I will contact you at the end of April with my final number of miles ridden. You can also check the official April Fool’s web site (www.bikingfools.com) for updates. All you’ll need to know is my April Fools “name” to see how I’m doing (and how much help you’ll be providing to a worthy charity). Example of donation: If you pledge $.10 per mile $.05 per mile and I ride 300 miles 500 miles = Pledged donation is = $30 = $25

If you decide to give a flat donation, you are welcome to pay in advance. Please make your check payable to “Calistoga Family Center”. Their Non-Profit Tax ID number is 80-002-3012. If you happen to work for a company that has a matching program, we’d be delighted to get their support. Please simply follow the company’s instructions to request the matching donation. My rider name “_________________”. My goal _______________ miles. Your donation: $________ per mile or $________ flat donation (please keep this for your records) A big thanks from the Calistoga Family Center and Calistoga Bikeshop!
P.S. In compliance with IRS requirements, we attest that no goods or services were provided by the Calistoga Family Center in return for this contribution.
