IN YA BOX AND REDEFINING NEW ORLEANS RADIO MARKET

...the multifaceted DJ Mike Swift is making a name for himself as an On-Air Personality/Mix Show DJ on the Crescent Citys newest Hip-Hop station; Power 102.9 KKND-FM, a Cumulus Broadcasting afliate.
We know him as Mr. Fist-Pumps, The New Orleans Club King, and for his radio shows trademark moniker In Ya Box!; yet, the mega star we know today as the infamous DJ Mike Swift had humble beginnings in his hometown of Algiers, La. Swift, known then as simply Michael Powell, was raised by a single mother and born into a family infused with heavy musical inuence. Grandson of a local jazz magician and son of a multifaceted musician and singer, Swift was predestined to follow a career in music. He began playing the clarinet at the age of seven, but after hearing The Pharcydes Labcabincalifornia LP, Michael abandoned the clarinet to pursue his new found love of Hip-Hop. At the age of twelve, Swift saved up his allowance and brought his rst DJ kit from an ad in the Source Magazine. He quickly developed a following DJing through a local circuit of private parties and high school dances. Upon his graduation from Edna Karr High School in 2002, Swift attended Dillard University where he became resident DJ. Swifts buzz among the college crowd also landed him in the resident DJ position at Dillards rival school Xavier University. This cross-campus exposure gained him the recognition which allowed him to host parties at the citys most popular venues and solidify himself as a record producer. In the winter of 2005, Swift landed a spot on the then local R&B station 102.9 KMEZ-FM and simultaneously served as Program Director and Consultant of Dillard Universitys WDUB campus radio. Just two years later, in 2007, Swift was inducted into the infamous Denition DJs. Two months after Swifts college graduation, in July 2008, 102.9 was revamped

For motivation, Swift reference this quote: Success is not given...it is earned and taken
