Create 1/2 Hex Bolt

1. Sketch a polygon with 6 side, Tools>Sketch Entities>Polygon

set diameter to 0.75in.

2. Extrude

sketch to 0.34in.

3. Create minor diameter for thread, sketch circle on top face, set diameter to 0.4in. 4. Extrude sketch to 1.1in.

5. Click end edge of thread shaft,

click convert entities

6. Select Helix/Spiral feature

set height to 1.2in, theap per inch=pitch 13/1in

7. Right click on Front plane, Insert sketch

sketch thead profile.

8. Click sweep feature

select sketch profuile as sketch and helix as a path, OK.

9. Create skecth a circle on the end shaft,

extrude cut 0.1in

10. Finish.

why is it that when I click on end edge of thread shaft convert entities is not highlighted, I had the same problem with previous tutorial on embossing text on curved surface. after creating text on plane, the warp command was not highlighted. I dont understand why this is happening. please help 2. Maraden

Make sure you have sketch clicked,other wise it will not hightlight.I had the same problem until I got it ^^ 4. Zack

I was looking at your tutorial on creating a 1/2-13 bolt. I was just wondering in step #7, how you calculated the dimensions of the tooth side profile. I found the tutorial very helpful Thanks. I do look forward in hearing how you calculated that profile, because I wouldnt know how to calculate it for a 3/8 bolt, or any other bolt. I appreciate any help on this. Con 6. Zack

I cannot get thread profile to sweep. Im obviously doing something wrong, but dont know what. I figure I messed up the thread profile sketch. Any tips? 9. Christopher

Ok. Lol thats not my problem anymore.. Heres my new problem: when i set sketch 6 as profile and helix/spiral 1 for the path, then it says Sweep operation failed to complete. So what to do? 15. Stephen

The sweep op didnt work for me until I extended the sketch into the shaft area. It can be extended in any distance, as long as it is not flush with the top of the shaft. If you mirror (copy) the sketch it works great. Hope that helps 16. jordan
