Quarter, Quarter Big and Bold

Activities for the Quarter: 1. Spin-A-Coin - Partner game. Copy on card stock and laminate. Use dryerase markers. Use brad and paperclip or pencil and paperclip for the spinner. Student spins spinner, says penny, nickel, dime or quarter, marks a box for the correct one. Students get 10 turns each. Students can math talk about their results. 2. Flip-A-Quarter - Copy on card stock, cut in half and laminate. Individual play. Students are given a quarter. Flip quarter and record using a dry erase marker. After each flip and record, student will cross out a pig to keep up with how many flips they have had. 3. Penny, Nickel, Dime, Quarter - Students color pennies brown, nickels gray, dimes yellow and quarters green. Count how many pennies/nickels/dimes/ quarters and record. 4. The Quarter Poem - Students can trace and color the quarter poem for their poetry journals. 5. Quarter Poem poster - Print and laminate, use in classroom. 6. Count Your Quarters - Copy on card stock and laminate. Students can play with partner or individually. Give a cup with 4 quarters. Shake the quarters in the cup and dump them on the floor or math mat. Use a dry erase marker to mark how many were heads and how many were tails. Mark off one pig for each turn. When 5 turns are up, count and record how many were heads and how many were tails. Then record which had less and which had more.
