Mens club soccer dominates with undefeated season

Marko Demkiv (14), a Ukrainian student who used to play semi-pro in his home country, said that the team has grown substantially. In the fall, our results were average, said Demkiv. But as the year has progressed, we have really bonded, and you can see that in all the matches we have won. Everyones excited. During the regular season, the team practices twice a week for two and a half hours each session, along with a weekly game. During the off season in the spring, the players join LCs intramural league, which is on Wednesdays and Sundays, along with one practice and a match against other Oregon universities during the week. The best part about being on this team is the collective atmosphere, continued Demkiv. Everyone is willing to dedicate a lot of time to make the group better. Although the mens club team

The Lewis & Clark mens club soccer team is off to a promising start with an undefeated record of three wins since the start of the spring season. Although the mens official season ends in the fall, the team still continues to play friendly matches against other universities during the springtime. The last two matches have both been against Portland State University, a challenging opponent that LC managed to defeat twice in a row. I think a big reason why we were able to beat Portland State each time was because we have such strong chemistry, said Simon Monley (14), who has been a consistent player on the team during his time here at the college. We really trust each other with the ball. Its really great to see everyone work so well with one another on the field.

here on campus has provided many players with an excellent opportunity to play in a relatively relaxed and easygoing setting, many have expressed interest in being a part of a varsity squad, which LC does not offer. According to the school website, club sports are designed and run directly by students, but a few think its about time to have a school-sponsored team available as well. A big part of the problem is funding. According to Demkiv, if the boys want to add a varsity team, the school would have to add another womens varsity sport to balance out the ratio of mens to womens varsity teams. For now, then, it looks like the men will have to wait patiently and see if a varsity option will open up for them. In the meantime, the club team is an excellent outlet for anyone looking to play on a weekly basis.
