February 27th - March 11th 2012 Registration opens on February 27th at 02.00 PM

We provide : We use 50 caps for High Schools 50 caps for Varsities : Asian Parliamentary System There will be 5 preliminary rounds, knockout rounds from Octo Finals to Grand Finals N-1 system for adjudicators Varsities level only. If you send one or two teams, you should provide 1 adjudicator. If you send 3 teams, you should provide 2 adjudicators) Main list and waiting list system For both high schools and varsities. each of you can send 3 teams. First 2 teams will be on the main list and the rest will be on the waiting list Thing you can do : Register your team via Short Message Service (SMS) Natasya 0856 9518 6492 (for Varsity) or Hilda 0878 8828 6876 (for High School) Type down your institutions name and contact person (phone number and alternative phone number, email)

If you cannot fulfill all the requirements from the committee, you wont be considered as the debate participant of ALSA English Competition 2012 and will be replace by another team. Registration Fees For High School For Varsity Rp 425.000,-/team Rp 450.000,-/team

Rules
In the ALSA e-comp, the debate system is Asian parliamentary style. There are two teams government and opposition. Each team has three speakers and will be given the opportunity of reply speech from the first or second speaker of each team. The speech time is 7 minutes and for reply speaker is 4 minutes. The competition consists of 5 preliminary rounds. In each round, the winning team will get a victory point (VP) and will be accumulated with the score. Here is the role description both teams: The government team should defend the motion. The government team should convince the adjudicators to make the motion stand. Each speaker will be given 7 minutes to deliver the speech and 4 minutes for the reply speech. The role of each speaker: Prime Minister (1st speaker): Define context, parameters, stance, and set up of the debate Give the background or an issue which leading to the case Give the mechanism of the governments case and argumentation flow Introduce the argument Assert government stand

Deputy Prime Minister (2nd speaker): Rebut the argument from leader of opposition Rebut rebuttals that attack Prime Ministers argument Introduce the next argument Reassert government stand and case

Government Whip (3rd speaker)

Rebut Deputy Leader of Opposition and Leader of Opposition Rebut rebuttals to Deputy Prime Minister and Prime Minister arguments

Give the deeper analysis from previous arguments and rebuttals No new arguments, but should give new angles or perspective of previous arguments

Brief summary of entire case of government Reassert government stand and case

Reply Speech (either the 1st speaker or 2nd speaker the one that can give reply speech, 3rd speaker cant give reply speech) No new arguments Should convince the adjudicators why the case that brought by Prime Minister until the Government whip is better than the opposition team Highlight issue which you think you won New examples Reassert stand

The opposition team should negate the motion. The opposition team should convince the adjudicators to make the motion falls. Each speaker will be given 7 minutes to deliver the speech and 4 minutes for the reply speech. The role of each speaker: Leader of Opposition (1st speaker) Agree or disagree with context, parameters, stance, or set up of the debate which brought by Prime Minister

The order of Asian Parliamentary debate speechs: 1. Prime Minister - 7 minutes 2. Leader of Opposition - 7 minutes 3. Deputy Prime Minister - 7 minutes 4. Deputy Leader of Opposition - 7 minutes 5. Government Whip - 7 minutes 6. Opposition Whip - 7 minutes 7. Opposition Reply Speech - 4 minutes 8. Government Reply Speech - 4 minutes Note: please make sure you notice that the order after the Opposition Whip is Opposition Reply speech not the Government Reply Speech
