We look at 10 of the Premier League's greatest shocks of the past decade.

Burnley 1-0 Man Utd 19/08/09 Robbie Blake slammed home a ferocious right-footed volley after just 18 minutes to give newly-promoted Burnley a shock 1-0 triumph over the Red Devils. However he threatened to undo his good work, conceding a penalty by upending Patrice Evra just before the break but Brian Jensen made a fine save from Michael Carrick and the Clarets hung on grimly for a famous victory. Arsenal 1-2 Hull City 27/09/08 This was not one of the Gunners' better performances of last season, but they looked to be papering over the cracks when Cesc Fabregas' shot found the net after hitting Paul McShane. However, a wonder-strike from Geovanni and a Daniel Cousin header in the space of four second-half minutes turned the match on its head. "Of course coming to the Emirates and taking three points will surprise a lot of people, but it doesn't surprise anyone in our changing-room," said manager Phil Brown after the match. Reading 3-1 Liverpool 08/12/07 Liverpool came to the Madejski Stadium as one of only two unbeaten sides in the Barclays Premier League and must have fancied their chances against a Reading team destined for relegation. The Merseysiders fell behind to a controversial penalty by Stephen Hunt on 17 minutes but levelled through Steven Gerrard 11 minutes later. Fernando Torres was substituted as Kevin Doyle got a faint touch to a Nicky Shorey free-kick to restore Reading's lead on the hour. Gerrard hit a post and almost immediately James Harper broke from the halfway line to slot his side's third. Crouch hit a post in stoppage-time as Liverpool failed to claw it back. Wolves 1-0 Man United 17/01/04 Wolves may have finished bottom in their last Premier League campaign but they turned heads with this mid-season victory over United. Kenny Miller ran clear to beat Tim Howard and score in the 66th minute at Molineux. David Bellion had a late goal ruled out for offside as Wolves held on in this top v bottom match. Man United 1-3 Fulham 25/10/03 Champions Manchester United suffered a shock home defeat to Fulham. Chris Coleman's team took an early lead as Lee Clark found the back of the net on three minutes. When United drew level on the stroke of half-time, many predicted the brave Cottagers' attempt to come away from Old Trafford with all thee points had been foiled. But there was more to come from the Londoners, who again took the lead thanks to a goal from the impressive midfielder Steed Malbranque. With United reeling at the

prospect of defeat, Junichi Inamoto sealed the win with a shot from close range to give Fulham their first win at Old Trafford since 1963. Man United 0-1 Bolton 11/09/02 Bolton Wanderers finished only two points above the relegation zone and this unexpected three points early in the season was pivotal to the Trotters' campaign. David Beckham lost possession on the edge of his own area and Kevin Nolan's resulting shot deflected past Fabien Barthez and into the net. "The defending against an outstanding world class team like United was fantastic," said Trotters manager Sam Allardyce whose side kept out Ruud van Nistelrooy and co in the evening encounter. Arsenal 0-3 Middlesbrough 14/04/01 An Arsenal side featuring the likes of Tony Adams, Patrick Vieira and Thierry Henry were brushed aside at Highbury. The Gunners created a number of chances but this was a freak Premier League encounter featuring own-goals from the Gunners' Brazilian duo Edu and Sylvinho. Hamilton Ricard's 58th minute strike put the icing on the cake for Terry Venables' side who finished the season in 14th place. Man United 6-1 Arsenal 25/02/01 A Dwight Yorke hat-trick in 20 first-half minutes propelled United to victory against their old rivals at Old Trafford. Thierry Henry had levelled Yorke's opener after a slick move but United put their foot down and went in at the break 5-1 up as Roy Keane and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer built on their team-mate's treble. Teddy Sheringham rubbed salt into Arsenal wounds late on. Wenger's troops would finish ten points behind champions United in second place. Bradford City 1-0 Liverpool 14/05/00 This shock result had extra significance as it took place on the final day of the season and saved Paul Jewell's team from relegation. David Wetherall was a colossus all match and rose to head in a free-kick from Gunnar Halle on 12 minutes. Bradford were battling relegation all season, while this defeat denied Liverpool a Champions League place. "That's something I will remember for the rest of my life," said Wetherall, expressing the magnitude of what he and Bradford had achieved. Southampton 3-3 Liverpool 26/08/00 This match looked all over as Liverpool led 3-0 at The Dell with barely quarter of an hour remaining. Two goals by Michael Owen (24 and 64 minutes) and one from Sami Hyypia (55) seemed to have put Gerard Houllier's side on the way to three points. Even when Marian Pahars pulled one back on 74 minutes, it seemed little more than a consolation. But with five minutes on the clock, Moroccan international Tahar El Khalej set the nerves jangling and, in a fevered atmosphere, Latvian international Pahars grabbed an unlikely equaliser in stoppage time. If the match had gone on a few more minutes, Glenn Hoddle's now rampant side might well have won it.
