Emotional CPR Queensland TRAINING

Emotional CPR (eCPR), a hopeful approach to building strengths-based, resilient, cooperative communities.

THE TRAINING This training was developed to prepare you to participate fully in the life of the community by providing support to othersfriends, family, or people you havent met -- who may be experiencing an emotional crisis. eCPR teaches the simple skills of one person assisting and supporting another. The skills taught in eCPR are designed to be practised by people who have both had training and those with no experience or training in counselling, assessment, or other clinical skills. Even if you have received previous training, it is our hope that you will find some aspects of the eCPR process to be new, hopeful and empowering. This training was developed by people who have learned from their own experience how to get through an emotional crisis and integrate the experience into a broader understanding of themselves and others. Our approach is based on time-tested, basic common-sense principles of deep listening and interacting in a respectful manner. The developers of eCPR have been users of the American mental health and/or substance use service system and have also provided services themselves. THE TRAINER Jenny Speed has worked for thirty years in public and private sector health administration, planning and policy, disability and mental health advocacy. She is an energetic mental health consumer activist locally, nationally and internationally. Throughout these activities, she has maintained a strong commitment to social justice. She is currently working at Sisters Inside overseeing the development and delivery of programs and services to criminalised women and their children.
