ICE arrested 145 individuals throughout New England. Of the 145, 119 individuals had prior criminal convictions including 55 aliens who had multiple criminal convictions. The other 26 individuals arrested were non-criminal ICE priorities. Of the total 119 criminal aliens arrested, 64 have felony criminal convictions and 55 have misdemeanor criminal convictions. Six of the 119 are sex offenders. Of the 145 arrested, 131 were male, 14 were female. In addition to being convicted criminals, 50 of those arrested were also immigration fugitives who had previously been ordered to leave the country but failed to depart. Additionally, 12 were illegal re-entrants who had been previously removed from the country. Additionally, 12 were illegal re-entrants who had been previously removed from the United States.

Statement by Field Office Director Dorothy Herrera-Niles: "The results of this targeted enforcement operation underscore ICE's ongoing commitment to public safety," said Dorothy Herrera-Niles, field office director of ICE's Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) for New England. "When we focus on the arrest and removal of convicted criminal aliens and immigration fugitives, we get an immediate payback in our communities. Because of the tireless efforts and teamwork of ICE officers and agents, along with our state and local law enforcement partners, there are 145 fewer criminal aliens and fugitives in our neighborhoods across New England." The Dominican Republic national was previously convicted of manufacturing cocaine. He also had outstanding criminal arrest warrant for carry a dangerous weapon, open and gross lewdness and knowingly receiving stolen property. He was previously removed from the United States on two different occasions. ICE will present this case to the U.S. attorney's office for possible federal prosecution.

On March 25, 2012, a 27-year-old man was arrested in Springfield, Vt. The Canadian national was convicted of lewd and lascivious conduct, and sentenced to five years in prison. The man is also a registered sex offender. On March 26, 2012, Joaquim Arruda, 51, a national of Portugal, was arrested by ICE in Swansea, Mass. He was an at-large criminal alien convicted Feb. 22, 2011, of indecent assault and battery on a child under the age of 14. He is currently in ICE custody pending his removal from the United States. On March 27, 2012, Ryder Ventura-Minaya, 29, a national of the Dominican Republic, was arrested by ICE in Methuen, Mass. He was an at large criminal alien convicted on April 25, 2002, of indecent assault and battery on a child; on June 5, 2002, convicted of assault and battery and on Sept. 27, 2011, convicted of failure to register as a sex offender. He is currently in ICE custody pending his removal from the United States. On March 28, 2012, a 24-year-old man was arrested in Worcester, Mass. The Kenyan national was previously convicted of possession and distribution of illegal narcotics. On March 28, 2012, a 27-year-old man was arrested in Revere, Mass. The national of Bosnia-Herzegovina, was previously convicted of one count of operating a motor vehicle under the Influence of alcohol. He was also convicted of possession of cocaine, Ecstasy and shoplifting. # ICE #
