FIELD CONSULTANTS (Community Mental Health), .75 – 1.0 FTE (variable) The School of Social Welfare at UC Berkeley is seeking dynamic applicants for two 0.75 to 1.0 FTE (variable) Field Consultant positions for our Community Mental Health (CMH) concentration. These appointments would begin July 1, 2012 and have the potential to become continuing appointments after six years. Primary Duties Placement Planning and Quality Assurance Monitoring (.25 FTE) • • • Identify, recruit, train, and develop strong field instructors and placements; Conduct individualized educational assessments for 30 Community Mental Health (CMH) students; Facilitate educational placement matches for CMH students, ensuring the quality of the student’s educational experience and monitoring their professional development to ensure expected competencies are developing; Monitor all placements to ensure educational quality, to address student performance issues, if any, and to resolve conflicts collaboratively;

Field Seminar Facilitation ( .35 FTE) • Lead the first-year field preparation and integration seminar including orienting students to the field of social work and the concentration area of Community Mental Health, facilitating discussions about professional dilemmas, and helping integrate and apply the curriculum in their placement; Conduct quarterly, half-day section meetings for approximately 15 second year CMH students to be able to discuss their field placement experiences;

Administrative Duties (.15 FTE) • Review, sign, and complete all required paperwork in a timely manner;

UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, BERKELEY School of Social Welfare 120 Haviland Hall #7400 Berkeley, CA 94720 • Work with other CMH faculty to evaluate and improve the CMH curriculum and to create community events for CMH students; • • Participate in admission reviews of prospective students; Attend weekly meetings of the field education team, departmental teaching staff meetings, and other committee meetings as assigned;

Additional Duties if desired and available (.25 FTE) • Teach generalist and/or community mental health practice methods courses including theory/conceptual overview and skillsbased practical applications; Perform other related administrative and curricular duties;

Qualifications • • Must have an MSW degree from an accredited school or university; licensure preferred; Must have a minimum of 5 years experience in social work, preferably in community mental health; 10+ years preferred; experience in specialty mental health, forensic, children’s, veteran’s mental health, behavioral health, substance abuse and/or other emerging public mental health settings is highly desirable; Must have understanding of public community mental health practice, policy, and evidence base; Must have a minimum of three years of experience supervising, teaching, and/or coaching students or developing professionals; 5+ years preferred; Experience with diverse populations, bilingual capacity, and/or strong cultural proficiency and related teaching/facilitation skills are highly valued.
