Registration for all programs begins on the date indicated. All registrations will take place in the Brick Township Department of Parks and Recreation Ofces, located in the Civic Plaza, 270 Chambers Bridge Road, unless otherwise indicated. Ofce hours are Monday through Friday from 8am until 4:30pm. Registration fees are payable by cash, check or money order only. Registration for programs will remain open until the maximum number of participants has been reached. All programs have a minimum enrollment. Parks and Recreation Department Information


Mission Statement
The mission of the Brick Township Department of Parks & Recreation is to improve the quality of life for all Brick Township citizens through the provision of high quality recreational facilities and a wide variety of programs that promote a healthy and enriching lifestyle and a greater sense of community while enhancing the social, cultural and physical well-being of citizens and visitors of Brick Township. All Programs, Dates and Fees listed in this program are subject to change. Enrollment is limited to Brick Township residents, children of Brick Township taxpayers or those who receive regular daily care from a relative who is a Brick Township resident. A drivers license, tax bill, utility bill or lease with a Brick Township address is required to complete registration. If enrollment is premised upon regular daily care of a child by a relative who is a Brick Township resident, the application may also require a sworn statement afrming the relationship and care arrangement from the parent or guardian of the child enrolled. A birth certicate may be required for children age 6 and under. Refunds will be issued within two (2) weeks of the start of the program only; refunds will be issued in the event of program cancellation. All programs require a minimum enrollment. Registrations take place at the Recreation Department unless otherwise specied.

Secret Witness Program


The Department of Parks & Recreation is extremely proud of the Secret Witness Program. This program has aided in the reduction of vandalism to park facilities. Vandalism costs the taxpayers money and requires manpower hours to make repairs and clean. Observers of vandalism are encouraged to call the 24-hour hotline at 732-262-1100. All calls will remain anonymous.

Adaptive Programming
The Department of Parks & Recreation is afliated with the New Jersey Recreation and Parks Association, the National Recreation and Parks Association and World Leisure and Recreation. The Township of Brick does not discriminate on the basis of race, creed and gender, nation of origin, age or disability in providing services to our residents. All residents are entitled to full participation in any of the Township of Bricks recreation programs. The Township of Brick will make reasonable accommodations for qualied individuals with disabilities, furnishing appropriate auxiliary aids and services upon request at no additional charge.

Facility Rentals
Brick Township has several municipal facilities available for rental for private purposes. Established fees and insurance requirements apply to all rentals. These facilities include: Windward Beach Park - located on the Metedeconk River, Windward Beach Park has three areas that can be rented by the public for exclusive use. These are the bandshell area, the gazebo and the picnic area. Bayside Park - located on Route 35 South on the Barnegat Bay, Bayside Park offers a gazebo area, playground and beautiful views of the Barnegat Bay and sunsets. Brick Beach III Pavilion - located on Route 35 North, the Brick Beach III Pavilion is covered and has amenities such as picnic tables and more. Drum Point Sports Complex - located on Drum Point Road adjacent to Drum Point Elementary and Emma Havens Young Schools, the facility has numerous athletic elds, a walking/jogging trail, restrooms, lighting and concessions. Brick Township Beaches


Brick Township has three municipal ocean beaches and one riverfront beach. All beaches are staffed with lifeguards 7 days per week between June 11 and Labor Day. They are open weekends from Memorial Day until September 16. Beach badges are required for access to all beaches.

Senior Beach Badges


Brick Township residents who will be age 65 by September 1, 2012 may receive free daily wristbands for access to Brick Townships beaches. Each individual requesting a wristband must provide proof of age (drivers license, birth certicate, county ID card). Senior wristbands are available at Brick Beach I, Brick Beach III and Windward Beach - not in the Brick Recreation Offices. Additionally, residents who will be age 65 by September 1, 2012 may purchase a season parking permit for $15. Valid car registration must be shown at time of purchase.

* Children 12 and under free when accompanied by a paying adult ** Valid vehicle registration required. *** Available for children age 13-17. Pass must be purchased by parent or guardian.

Parking stickers for Brick Beaches must be placed on back left bumper or rear window. Note: refunds or replacements will not be issued for lost or stolen badges. Badges and wristbands MUST be worn at all times on beaches.

Surf Chairs
Individuals with disabilities have the opportunity to reserve a specially designed wheel chair that will provide easy access to Beach I, Beach III and the Windward Beach bathing area. Call 732-262-1184.

Beach Bus
Bus transportation to Brick Beach I is available to Brick Township residents from June 18 until August 17 from the following locations:

Passengers should be at the bus stop prior to 9:30am. Bus departs from Beach I for return to point of origin at 2:30pm. Children under 13 shall not be permitted to board the bus unless accompanied by an adult. All riders ages 13-17 must have a season bus pass in order to ride without an adult. PLEASE NOTE: for the safety and comfort of all passengers, the Township of Brick reserves the right to remove and/ or refuse transport of any rider for unacceptable behavior

Brick Township Beaches - Information and Safety Tips


Brick Beach I - 310 Route 35 North While on Route 35 South look for Used to Bes Bar Restaurant which will be on your left
hand side, (approximately 1-2 miles past Mantoloking Rd.) Less than 500 feet further south from Used to Bes and across the street is the parking lot for Brick Beach I. Amenities include lockers, outdoor shower heads, concessions, parking, restrooms.

Brick Beach II - 354 Route 35 North


There are no concessions, bathrooms or parking at Beach II. To access Brick Beach II, park at either Brick Beach I or III and walk on the beach to Brick Beach II.

Brick Beach III - 440 Route 35 North While on Route 35 South look for Bayside Park which will be on your right hand side,
(approximately 2-3 miles past Mantoloking Rd.) Directly across from Bayside Park on 35 North is the parking lot for Brick Beach III. Brick Beach III has bathrooms, concession and parking lot. Brick Beach III is the southernmost Brick Beach.

Windward Beach Park - 265 Princeton Avenue


Amenities include parking, playgrounds, volleyball net, bathrooms, shing and crabbing piers, bocce courts, horseshoe pit, gazebo, picnic areas.

Beach Safety Tips


The Brick Township Department of Parks and Recreation and the Brick Township Lifeguards would like to share the following safety tips and suggestions to help ensure your visits to Brick Townships beaches are safe and fun this summer: Swim only when lifeguards are on duty; never Wear eye protection. How to Avoid and Survive Rip Currents


A rip current is a narrow, powerful current of water that runs perpendicular to the beach. Rip currents pull swimmers away from the beach and every year, over 100 people in the United States lose their lives because of them. Drowning deaths occur when people try to swim against the current. The accompanying chart illustrates how to get out of a rip current if you nd yourself in one. Youth Sports Programs

Summer Outdoor Basketball

Bitty Basketball Clinic


An instructional clinic consisting of a half hour of drills and skills and a half hour of game time. Sessions are held on Saturday at either 12pm or 1pm. Who:! ! 2013 Girls T-Ball League


Registration fee includes 13 game season, t-shirt, hat and medal for each player. Who:! ! Brick Township girls in grades K-2 Location:! Drum Point Sports Complex Dates:! ! Weekday evenings April 29 thru Mid-June Fee:! ! $35
Registration held from January 2 through March 1. All children will be placed on a team and are guaranteed to play. Players receive on-eld instruction during game play. There are no formal practices.

Little Hoopsters Clinic


An instructional clinic consisting of skills and drills. No game time. Clinics are held Saturday mornings at either 9am, 10am or 11am. Who:! ! Residents in 1st and 2nd grades Location:! 2013 Girls Softball League


Registration fee includes 12 game season, playoffs, t-shirt, visor and trophy for each player. Who:! ! Brick Township girls in grades 3-9 Location:! Drum Point Sports Complex Dates: ! Tryouts for placement held in March 2013 Fee:! ! $65
Registration held from January 2 through March 1. Returning 5th and 7th grade girls must try out along with any girls who havent previously played. All children will be placed on a team and are guaranteed to play.

Basketball Clinic
A clinic featuring drills to improve basketball skills. There are no games in this clinic. Limited to 30 children per class. Who:! ! Residents in 2nd through 8th grades Location:! High School Boys Basketball League

Registration held from July 30 through November 16. All children will be placed on a team and are guaranteed to play. If you are on a scholastic team (Freshman, JV or Varsity) you are NOT eligible to participate in the Recreation League.

Kick-Ball
New for 2012 - Kick-Ball! Registration fee includes 10 game season and t-shirt. Games will be held on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings beginning at 6pm and ending at 7pm. Who:! ! Youth Sports Programs


Brick Barracuda Swim Team
The Barracudas compete throughout Ocean and Monmouth Counties. Currently in its 18th Season, this competitive program involves daily practices with continuous swimming and participation in meets. Practices are age appropriate and all swimmers must meet minimum requirements or they will be referred to an instructional program. The requirements are as follows: 5 and 6 years old: Continuous 25 yard sets of unassisted ! ! freestyle and alternating backstroke ! ! and kick board drills 7 and 8 years old: Continuous 100 yard sets 9 and 10 years old: Continuous 150 yard sets 11 and 12 years old: Continuous 200-300 yard sets. 13 and 14 years old: Continuous 500 yard sets
Sets for these ages are comprised of alternating freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, buttery and related drills.

Junior Lifeguard Program


This course is designed to provide students with a sound aquatic background and the skills needed to one day become an Ocean Lifeguard. Students will undergo professional surf training and daily team relays involving surfboard paddling, swimming, running and beach ags. Additionally, students will be instructed in the basics of rst aid and CPR (no certication given). The program is held from 9am-10:30am Who: ! Brick residents ages 10 - 15 Location: ! Golf Instruction

Skills and drills will be the focus of this instructional clinic taught by licensed instructors provided by USP Soccer. Open to all regardless of ability; students will be grouped according to skill. Tennis for Beginners


Basic tennis instructions for those new to the sport. Lessons are one-hour and are held Monday through Friday for a total of 5 hours of instruction. Who: ! This course covers staying healthy on the beach, surf etiquette and safety, recognizing and understanding ocean and weather conditions, board handling, wave selection and riding. Please bring bathing suit or wet suit, towels, waterproof sunscreen, hat, tshirt or cover up, snack and, if desired, dry clothes. Note: as safety is the top priority, camp schedule may change due to weather, tides or surf conditions. Make ups will be made at the discretion of the instructor.

Adult Basketball
Open gym basketball exclusively for adults. Held on Wednesday evenings from 7:30pm-9:30pm. Who: Residents age 18 and over Location: Lake Riviera Middle School Session 1: February 6 - February 27 Fee: $20

NEW PROGRAMS! Bocce!


Join us for the rst season of Recreation Bocce League. Teams will consist of two people competing in single game matches. Registration fee includes 10 games and playoffs. Trophies will be awarded to league champions. Games will be played on Monday and Wednesday evenings at 6pm and 7pm. Make up games will be played on Fridays. Who:! ! Summer Outdoor Basketball League

Adult Softball Leagues


Parks and Recreation offers men and mixed softball leagues throughout the spring, summer and fall. Leagues are offered on Sunday mornings and evenings and evenings on Monday through Friday. All games are played at the Drum Point Sports Complex. For more information about leagues, please call 732-262-1165.

Pickleball!
Pickleball is a fast growing sport that is popular among older Americans. It is a court sport that has been described as a combination of badminton, tennis and ping pong. it is played on a court with a perforated plastic ball and paddles. It is easy for beginners to learn and is accessible to people of all athletic abilities. This is a fun league; there will be no ofcial standings or playoffs. All equipment will be provided. One Day Adult Surfing Clinic

Get Healthy with Zumba Classes!


Zumba is a dance tness party and an easy way to burn calories. It has grown to become the worlds largest and most successful dance tness program for people of all shapes and sizes. Zumba classes feature exotic rhythms set to high-energy Latin and international beats. Before participants know it, theyre getting t and their energy levels are soaring! Come and dance with us! Summer Camp Programs


Summer Camp 2012
Recreation Summer Camp is a Brick Township tradition that provides young people with opportunities to enjoy activities such as arts and crafts, games and organized sports in a supervised environment. Children should bring lunch, a morning snack and plenty to drink. A variety of day trips are offered for children enrolled in the camp program and require an additional fee. Trips are optional and are lled on a rst come - rst served basis.
In the event of rain, all camps are closed for the day. In the event of excessive temperatures, campers are dismissed at noon.

Police Department Youth Camp


The Brick Township Police Department will offer a six-day youth camp for children aged 10 - 12. Enrollment in this highly-popular program is limited and selection is done through lottery. Camp activities include physical training, handcufng techniques, police baton training, K-9 interaction, bike unit training and obstacle course, motor vehicle stops and accident investigation and trips to other police agencies. The Police Camp Graduation Ceremony is held during the Annual Night Out Against Crime celebration. Register in the Police Department Week of June 4 Camp Dates: July 30 - August 6 Campers must be able to perform rigorous physical activities and adhere to strict disciplinary policy. They are required to wear khaki shorts or slacks and sneakers. T-shirts and hats will be provided. Campers must bring their own lunch. Counselor in Training Program


The Counselor in Training Program is an opportunity for young people to learn the responsibilities of becoming a Recreation Summer Camp Leader by assisting the staff with the daily activities. CITs must by 14 years old with paid registration for camp. Parents MUST attend a mandatory pre-camp meeting on June 11 at the Civic Plaza.

Radio City Christmas Spectacular Thursday, December 6


Celebrate the spirit of the season at one of Americas most beloved Christmas traditions! The Radio City Christmas Spectacular was rst presented in 1933 and is seen by more than 1 million people every year! Bus departs the Brick Township Civic Plaza at 8am and returns after the show. The show starts at 2pm. Fee includes bus transportation and ticket to the show. No seats will be sold without payment. No refunds will be issued unless show is sold out. The Brick Township Historic Preservation Commission 2nd Annual Bus Tour will take you on a tour of over 50 historical sites in Brick Township. This is a great chance to learn more about the history of our community. Tickets are $10 and must be paid in cash or check payable to the Township of Brick no later than Friday, September 28, 2012. Guild Theatreworks

Affiliated Groups and Organizations

Formerly known as The Brick Players, Guild Theatreworks mission is to encourage cooperation among and advancement of artistes, art students, actors, writers, producers, craftsmen, designers, publishers and all others engaged in artistic and theatrical activities through the production of theatrical events on the community level. Guild Theatreworks is always seeking new members to participate in their productions as performers, designers, technicians and musicians. Brick Childrens Community Theatre

Senior Outreach Services


The Mission of Senior Outreach Services is to make a positive difference in the lives of senior residents of Brick Township by improving their access to health, education, social and supportive services thereby helping them live with dignity and independence. Services are provided under Title III of the Older Americans Act of 1965 and the Township of Brick. Brick Township Senior Outreach Services is a secondary NJ Ease Access Site. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8am - 4pm. Ofce closings will be announced on 94.3FM The Point or 1310AM WADB. Programs and services offered by Senior Outreach Services include: General Programs and Services - benet screening, telephone reassurance, caregiver/care receiver information and assistance, transportation to physicians for well visits, health screenings. Physical Fitness - ballroom dancing, self defense, line dancing, arm exercises, DJ Dancing, chair aerobics, tai chi Art, Social Events and Education - oil painting, watercolor painting, acrylic painting, movies, literary club, holiday events, multicultural club and fair, craft class, surf shing club, Humming Birds social group, vendor fair, educational classes, conversational English, brain aerobics Additionally, Senior Outreach Services provides assistance to residents over the age of 60 by obtaining the following services by referral: Alcohol & drug abuse prevention, depression and mental health, x-it program, homemaker services, gift of warmth, veterans affairs, bereavement and other support groups, Meals on Wheels, nutrition lunch and more. Brick Township Skateboard Park


Located in the Drum Point Sports Complex behind Emma Havens Young Elementary School, the Skateboard Park has ramps, jumps and rails for young athletes. The Park is open from morning to dusk when school is not in session and from 3pm to dusk on school days. Use of the Skateboard Park is free. Helmets, knee and elbow pads must be worn at all times in the park. Bicycles are not allowed in the Skateboard Park.
