1. Can work and manage a team of systems administrators as well as other members of the IT (information technology) staff 2. Can Plans, designs, and coordinates the various components of an enterprise network system. 3. Can configure NFS and NIS, NT domains; can use nslookup or dig to check information in the DNS; understands basic routing concepts. 4. Can understands paging and swapping, inter-process communications, devices and what device drivers do, file system concepts (inode, clustering, logical partitions), can use performance analysis to tune systems. 5. Can do server management responsible for installing, maintaining and upgrading servers. Ensuring the servers are backed up, and that the server data is secure from unauthorized access. 6. Can Often perform light programming (usually scripting, which involves writing programs to automate tasks). 7. Can conduct research and development in network systems and related technologies. 8. Can establish methods and procedures for use of the network systems including hardware, software, and communications devices. 9. Can ensure the network environment is consistent with the agency objectives and is compatible with existing applications and security requirements. 10. Can ensure network equipment and software is meeting the needs of the program area as defined in the distributed processing plan and modifies the distributed processing plan as required. 11. Can evaluate and recommend network software and hardware for the enterprise system. 12. Can analyze and resolve network hardware, software, and communications problems using diagnostic software and/or technical troubleshooting processes. 13. Can conducts on-going network system audits to evaluate the utility and efficiency of the system's hardware, software, and communications components and the effectiveness in meeting management information needs. 14. Can develop and maintain disaster recovery procedures for the network and network resources. 15. Can process information logically and solve problems. 16. Can communicate effectively verbally and in writing. 17. Can solve problems quickly and automate processes.
